Just made a little fan art for the movie, The Forgotten Island, which came out last weekend. And it might be some of the most fun I've had for an animated feature in quite a while, not the least because I was very much the target demographic.

I brought my parents and my brother's family to see this one so it was like three generations of Filipinos getting to see our culture and mythology represented on screen in an exuberant story about memories and friendships and also some cool monsters made real. I also enjoyed the moment where my mom told me what one particular phrase meant and I got to pass that along to my nephew when he asked what it meant.

Tayo na! "Let's go!"

By the way, thanks for being patrons this month everyone. See you in October!

As someone who doesn't watch or follow film... Who is who, and what's that clinging to the one on the left's back?

Tall one is Raissa, shorter one is Jo, and the things on Raissa's back a pair of monster wings that got attached to her.

Just checked and apparently it gets released in my country next week! I hope I can find a screening near me.

I felt like the movie was very overstimulating and the jokes with some of the secondary Aswang fell flat for me, but the animation was GORGEOUS, especially the style changes and animations that felt very reminiscent of the Filipino comic styles or animations I grew up seeing back in the Philippines (especially on the indie space). Also a lot of the emotional anchoring of Jo and Raisa’s relationship along with their relationship with Jo’s Lola made me TEAR UP. This movie felt so important and I’m so happy and glad it’s finally out there for people to enjoy and learn about Filipino and Fil-Am culture! Wonderful fanart as well! You really captured their essences in your style!
