There’s always a small element of worry that comes when you leave a stranger to watch your property, children, or pets. Even if you’re fully trusting, here comes that gnawing sense that you yourself may have created a problem, because you didn’t quite bring yourself to tell the sitter... everything.

Thea Lapp is played by Mig Windows.

Released everywhere else next Friday.

…And coming on Monday: Round 3 of the Knifepoint Horror Villain Playoffs!

Ooooh yeah. Can't wait to get stuck into this tonight.. been waiting for what seems like ages for this to drop. Thanx Soren 😀

Jamie G Hardy

YES! 2 weeks of refreshing email 6 times a day has paid off! Try not to wait til going to bed at 2am so I can enjoy this all the way through w/o drifting off to sleep before the 10min mark (your voice aids my anxiety meds in making me pass out TOO well, not that the tales are sleep-inducing in any way).

Thorne Russell

Yippee! A new episode of my favorite show! Let’s go TARPY!

Jill E Merrill

Interesting plot twists. Maybe I'm not smarter than the average bear, I mean reader, but I enjoyed having to think a bit after I finished listening before I understood some of the implications. A few snippets of information puzzled me for a bit before I figured them out. After saying that, I'm still not sure I've figured it all out. It's fun to try a piece of a puzzle several times until it fits. Very enjoyable story. If you enjoy being frightened, of course.

Sara Fleming

Okay, so thank you for writing a story about how not all good boys and girls behave like good boys and girls, but they still love and deserve love. Its fucking dusty in here. Jerk.

🙏🥰 I fled Him, down the nights and down the days; I fled Him, down the arches of the years; I fled Him, down the labyrinthine ways Of my own mind; and in the mist of tears. I hid from Him, and under running laughter. 🐾 from "The Hound of Heaven" by Francis Thompson, 1890

Lisa

Thank you for this. Absolutely breathtaking (for a couple of reasons). This just might be my new favorite.

Helena Tkalez

My senior doggo Sam and I really enjoyed this tale. Many emotions felt, great ending.

Dana

I have a cat named “Basil”. 🐱Pronounced the same!! I always tell everyone “as in the Rathbone”. He doesn’t really like carrots though. Thank you for sharing your storytelling with us Soren!!

Brett Halland

Man this so perfectly captured the surreal feeling of house/dogsitting. I love your stories that really subvert the old horror expectations.

Brendan

Another fine yarn. Looking forward to a second listen when I'm not so tired after work to really savour it. Must say, even after one listen, I think it's a good one. Spot on reflection of being entrusted with a stranger's house/pet. I used to do house sitting, and ended up looking after some odd places. Anyway, yeah, Doggo is a good one. Something different, and with a flawless measure of creeping menace and mystery. Never overt, but always there from the moment the wife calls.

Lori K.

I love that we don’t really know who or what Sam is at first, at least I didn’t. Is he the nosy neighbour using an alias? Was he a relinquished human brother, pathologically jealous of Basil and sent away because, you know, rich people. Or is Sam something else altogether? Very eerie and heartbreaking. Great one, Soren!

Trafford Burgess

I really enjoyed this one a lot! I appreciated the very end where you give the payoff of addressing the prognostications of the reader by that final character- because I had those thoughts, it made me feel more connected to the story when they were echoed back to me. Great stuff! Keep it up!

Biff Loman

This was so beautiful. Thanks for all the feels. It had everything my favorite KPH tales do — the way you balance real horror (the bone prickles! The way you said “he needs help”!!) with sincere appreciation for the humanness of it all is so inspirational. It made me somehow nostalgic for the times in my life that were not really so good — the peeking through curtains, the desolate feeling of a wealthy client’s home when all the lights are off, the longing for someone to really see you, violence and all your bad tendencies, and still call you good. Oh, Sam! I’ll give my dog an extra scritch for you.

Mike M.

Man you’re really putting out some bangers lately. Keep at whatever inspiration juice you got going cause it’s working.

Gelrane

Thanks Soren I’m bawling 😭 my eyes 👀 out Other than that bravo!👏

Erin Hall

I feel like the dog dies and therefore I can’t listen. 😩

Jean Nordland-Skomars

I always listen at night, but what a great story for a lazy Sunday morning. I could feel those bone prickles, though. Thank you for adding this quality enjoyment to my day.

Oni

What a good doggo. I am glad that everything worked out in the end. As a person who just learned my senior furry friend has an inoperable mouth cancer and we will be focusing on making his remaining time comfortable, it is almost comforting to think that some future dark night where I am missing my special fluffy friend that his spirit might visit because he wants to come home, even if it’s just for a little while.

Jon Souw

Brilliant story and read as always.

Leslie

My heart was racing in the last 10 minutes, then it sank at the realization. Thanks for the heartbreak and bone prickles!

Emily T

Oh, my heart. 💔

Avalon Leonetti

Didn't expect to cry at work this morning, but here we are. This was really good.

Kayley Grissom

The way that you lead us to water with this one !! Wow !! Super impressive how well you know your audience.

Neha Lal

This was such a fun episode. I love how I thought I’d guessed the twist, and then turned out I hadn’t at all. Keeping me on my toes!

Jason Maki

Really like this episode, the ending absolutely destroyed me. I have an Older dog who has had a few behavioral issues in the past, I like how Sam was portrayed as an animal with feelings and emotions as apposed to a beastly villian. Thank you for this one.

Hilde Marciniak

This is superb. I get to add "bone pickles" to my "hebege words." Also, my chart notes are significantly better since listening to your stories.

elliot

great sociological view of how different classes answer the doors of wealthy properties. Ron McCarland: Upper Middle Class/Wealthy. Divorced. Horny. Welcomes in person who claims to live nearby (Karen), even though he is not familiar with her. Zach Downs: Broke. Bitter. Working Class Revolutionary. Does not welcome in unfamiliar person of the (wealthy) neighborhood (Martin). Shows disdain for Bourgeois Martin. thank you, comrade soren.

Jude

your stories are so good to listen to while planting trees, keeps the adrenaline going and the brain busy. I've planted tens of thousands of trees while listening to your stories and I'm sure each of those trees is now a knifepoint fan as well.

Tanya S.

I really loved all the misdirection in this and then the meta about it at the end. Brilliantly written as always. I hope Basil B had a good, happy rest of his life.

Luis Castillo Silva

Finally have the funds to start subscribing again, and wow. This was a perfect reentry point to this Patreon. A beautiful story as always, Soren. I’m glad to be back

Jason Cournoyer

Cool episode but you should've had Sam say "What's the word of the day" and eat all the neighbors

elliot

delighted to find out i've been D.N.K.'d (Do Not Kill), while heartbroken to have simultaneously been D.N.K.'d (Do Not Kiss)

Luke

“Yeah, that’s probably what people would like to see instead.” But not us

HPCringecraft

This one was a banger, I’ve never revered a KPH character as much as I have Basil

Ryan Blair

Damn this is one of the best. The pure tension created by speculation up until the last moment is so good. So many misdirects that are all plausible. No one does it like Soren

Mechelle

This was such an insightful story about getting to know a dog and comforting it. There was tension and fear, amazing as. always. But this really showed how we can take animals into our hearts, whether we expect to or not. I related to this as a pet sitter and it scared me! The protagonist ended up being such a hero.

Mechelle

This is off topic, but I have appreciated your work for years. It is sad that Amazon never recommends your books. I sort through horror with Stephen Graham Jones and Ramsey Campbell and other authors. You deserve to be shown in recommendations. Your works are that amazing… I am sorry that your books don’t show up. I love your stories and would buy them. But listening to them is creepy and unforgettable .

Soren Narnia

:) Maybe one day (quite a long time from now probably) I'll rework the audio stories into the way I'd usually write prose.... oh boy, that's gonna be a LOT of pages, hold on!
