YES! I've been waiting for you to get into this show!

CLS

OMGGGGGGGG

Nikki S

Yay! I haven’t seen the show yet, I’ve been meaning to read the book for years so I’ll read that next week and then watch lol 👏

Serenity La’sandra

I’ve rewatched this damn show so many times now. And reading the book!! The way I could recite half of these lines (the ones in English lmao) Obsessed with it! AHHH SO EXCITED FOR UR REACTION

PearlyRose

OH MY GOSH YES And yes I’ve read all the books so this was such a treat when it came out I’m so excited !

Rachel

Omg finally!!!!!!!!!! Yay!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Rachel

I am so excited!!!!!

StephMurph

I am so excited for the reaction to this. I have watched the first season twice already and have read all the books. I started going back to reread the last three books of the series so that I can remember before new seasons come out

Serenity La’sandra

Idk if you realize it more into the episode, but just in case, you’re gonna wanna watch with subtitles for the Russian parts! they’re a large part of the show and the character Ilya. I’d go back and watch the scene with subtitles and you get some background information about Ilya’s family dynamics!

Travis Manning

Well, sum it up for me then because I’m not going to watch it again right away :)

StephMurph

If you put the captions on for the next episodes, it will translate the Russian for you so you can understand what's being said

CLS

I didn't need subtitles on for Ilya's Russian subtitles to come on. Not sure why they didn't come up for Travis

Travis Manning

Next time I’ll try to tap into my psychic abilities.

StephMurph

I figured you didn't know and I wanted to let you know. It will be very helpful, I promise 😁

Serenity La’sandra

Basically Ilya lost his game and so Alexei, Ilya’s brother, called him to tell him that their dad is pissed off that Ilya lost his game and is demanding money from him. Ilya is telling him that his bonus is gone, and he has no more to give him because he snorted all of it. And he answers his dad who is yelling at him for losing, and sounding a lil deranged ngl. That was pretty much it!! If I missed anything yall lmk

Travis Manning

What would be helpful is if someone summed up the conversation I didn’t get to see 😭🤣

StephMurph

The brother is a complete jackass who is trying to take all of Ilya's money. Their dad is not a nice guy either. Only really calls Ilya to tell him what a horrible job he does what he plays

Serenity La’sandra

Yeah I didnt need it either idk why it’s giving issues for Travis but just informing just in case for the future Russian speaking scenes!

Serenity La’sandra

I’m blushing just knowing that you’re watching this blushing and know that I’m also watching this and that I know that I’m blushing 🤣🤣🤣

Asaunte

lmao i just knew this was comng at some point but i didn't expect it so soon

Travis Manning

I went back and found it real quick. The fam def sucks !

Travis Manning

Glad to know now ! It’s weird because when I watched on my computer earlier - nothing, but when I scrolled to find the scenes just now on my phone … they were automatic. 🫠🫠🫠🫠

Travis Manning

I thought I was just supposed to draw my own conclusions in the Russian scenes 🤣😭

Serenity La’sandra

That’s so odd. Well at least caught it now!! Tho I’m crying at you looking around like 👀👀when they’re speaking in Russian 🤣

Travis Manning

Like how the fuck am I supposed to know what they’re talking about 😭🤣💀

Rachel

Gonna need you to get all these reactions up so so so quick :) :) :) :()

Travis Manning

🤣😭 I guess I forgot everything I learned lolol

Ashley Adcock

Omg I’m so happy you are doing this show! In the beginning when you said you want to put it on YouTube I was like 😳😂😜 really need to use those editing skills.

Clay W

Coming from someone who hasn't read the books yet. Hell, I didn't even know there was a whole book series until after the show premiered, I don't think I expected to get so invested in a show like this, especially with the season only having six episodes, but I'm fully in it now.

Kate

Oh I’m READY for this!!!!! 😃😃

Amanda B

Yessss!!!! I’ve been waiting for this!!! ❤️

Jordan McAth

Okay I screamed when I got this notification!!!! I CANNOT WAIT FOR ALL THE EPISODES WITH YOU!!!!!

CJ

Isn't the Dr Pepper Cream Soda Zero so good?! It's my new fave! 🤣

Natalie Davis

omg I'm so excited! Finally I can watch the show in full! I don't get the channel it's on, so I've only been able to watch youtube reactions, which have to cut out all the sexy times lol

Cole

oh i was not expecting to see this here for a while!! excited for your reactions. definitely my favourite show of 2025 :)

Mary Cortez

I was watching the episodes the minute they dropped on November 28th (had to get a VPN because they still have not released this show in Mexico so if HBO asks I've been living in Australia for the last 5 weeks) and HBO Australia did not have the subtitles for the Russian scenes on episodes 1 and 2 so I was raw dogging Russian those first 2 episodes too, they fixed the issues by the very next day but I had to turn on the audio description track to know what they were talking about

Mary Cortez

But yes, turn on the subtitles you need to know what they are talking about to understand Ilya's story line

Kenzie_kenz1

Aww i wish you could have seen the subtitles because it helps give a lot more context to Ilya’s character! He’s definitely a bit cold, but not “mean” per se! I might be a little irritated if the guy who just beat me for rookie of the year came outside and started drunkenly yelling at me for not being happy for him lmao. Shane is a cutie patootie but a little oblivious right then in my opinion that he might be going through some of his own personal sh*t and that wasn’t the best moment lol Anyway, love this show and love your reactions! Excited to see the rest <3

scarr

CJ always coming through!!!! I still remember you getting Schitt’s Creek wrapped for us and now this?! KING 👑

Mary Cortez

Svetlana the girl wating for Rozanov in his house is NOT his girlfriend the conversation was: Svetlana: I came to surprise you! They announced your game was cancelled so came to see you Rosanov: You scared me I thought you were in Moscow When he got distracted by his phone Svetlana: You don’t deserve me, I should leave you alone to talk to whomever Jane is You will learn more about their relationship later on but think Callie Torres and Mark Slone vibes

Bradey Bononcini

Dang I knew this was locked in but I didn’t think we’d get it this quick. Let’s gooooo!

Stone45

I can't fathom how this show was made in 37 days, two cameras, one director who's also the writer for this show. And it turned out amazing!

Bridget K.

Ack! I hate that you're missing the subtitles. But I'm so glad you're reacting to this show.

Bridget K.

I hope you'll go back and re-watch with them on, because the parts with Ilya's brother and father are really important to understanding the character. I think there was a glitch with them for episode 1, so mess with your settings.

Helen Moore

So I know the captions got screwed up but basically Alexi is Ilyas brother who Ilya pays to take care of their father and all other family expenses. Alexi also has a drug and gambling problem and is demanding another 20k from him but Ilya can't give it to him immediately. He says he will give him the 20k but that is it, he isn't giving him any more. This is also part of why he is so frustrated at the end because not winning means less money and probably more demands from his family. When Shane is giving an interview in French he is being asked about how he feels about the comparison of him to other young elite athletes and if he feels the pressure. At the end when Ilya says something in Russian he is saying basically oo la la mr shane Holander can speak perfect French too because Ilya is deeply insecure about the fact that he struggles with english and is jealous of Shanes ability to quickly translate in his head and respond in either language.

mimi

THE WAY MY FACE LIT UP WHEN I SAW THIS NOTIFICATION OMG!!! btw there are other websites where they show you the subtitles when ilya is talking in russian. it's a bit important, especially in the next episodes. i hope you enjoy this show, it's so good.

clémence

Ok first time watching here and this was so hot I felt awkward watching "with" you 🤣 I am definitely going to go binge the next episodes right now!

Travis Manning

Guys I’m aware of the caption thing. Has been addressed :)

Jaci

I am BLUSHING😅😅 Mind you, I’ve never heard of this show lmaoo

CJ

I know why _I_ became obsessed with this show. I'm an autistic gay man who played hockey in highschool and see myself in Shane's character way too strongly. That's why I had to dig DEEP into my wallet to make Travis an offer he couldn't refuse in order to start it right away. I'm thrilled to see so many people as excited as I am. ♥️

scarr

Interesting. My assumption was that Ilya was upset on the roof because not winning meant his father was going to be pissed and come down hard on him, since we’d seen the pressure he puts on him.

Helen Moore

That's part of it, but it is definitely a lot more complex.

Jade Coulthurst

YES!I didn't know anything about this and managed to watch. It is brilliant. Look forward to watching along with you! You're in for a ride - in more ways than one.

Brittany

On behalf of all of us Heated Rivalry book fans, THANK YOU for making this happen so quickly! So happy Travis is watching this in real time! This should also bring in a lot of new people for him!

ANGELA

Wow! Bravo Travis! I give you major props for watching something so spicy publicly!!! This is going to be fun!!

Simone

Scott Hunter, I love you, you gorgeous fucking man! .. Anyway, in terms of chemistry, they lucked out so damn well with the leads. Both Hudson (Shane) and Connor (Ilya) seems to have the time of their lives right now, and do like to mess around with each other, and I truly believe that contributes to their performances.

Elina

Yes!! ♥️ I'm really looking forward for this one!

Elina

The timeline is not quite so easy to understand at first. The two are still playing for their youth teams when they meet at the end of 2008 (at that point, they are still 17). Ilya is still living in Russia. They see each other again when they are drafted into the NHL in 2009 (scene in the gym) and then play another full year with their teams in Canada and Russia (they see each other at the World Junior Hockey Championships, but don't meet outside of the game). Ilya moves to Boston in summer 2010 at the age of 19, while Shane starts playing for Montreal. The photo shoot takes place in the summer before their first NHL season. From that moment on, they see each other a few times a year when they play against each other or attend events.

Skylizzels

You have to put on the captions so you get the Russian parts, it really gives the important info on Ilya’s family.

jaimie✨

Oh this is soft porn

Kris

I'm really glad you decided to react to Heated Rivalry. This series is incredibly important because it provides a realistic portrayal of the queer experience and allows many people who usually don't feel seen to finally see themselves represented. In shows like Bridgerton, True Blood, and Game of Thrones, straight sexual intimacy is so normalized it's barely a talking point; this show is vital because it offers that same normalization for queer sexual intimacy. The show also effectively challenges common misconceptions; I was genuinely surprised by how many straight people (especially men) didn't realize certain positions and dynamics were possible for two men. The only information they often have about queer sex is from existing media (which is limited) and pornography (which obviously doesn't provide a realistic depiction of gay or straight sex). The sex scenes in this series are vital, providing meaningful character insight and essential development rather than serving as mere gratuitous content; they are as crucial to the narrative as the dialogue. One poignant example is in the first hotel room scene with Shane's reaction to his first gay sexual experience. This scene powerfully conveys his complex feelings—excitement, fear, and shame—through the obvious awkwardness of the situation. The scene also shows Ilya's perception and understanding of Shane's feelings, leading him to leave and afford Shane space. The second hotel room scene highlights Ilya's profound respect for consent. He prioritizes Shane's comfort over his own desires, demonstrating exceptional patience and understanding regarding Shane's inexperience. Side Note: Hudson Williams who plays Shane Hollander recently revealed his inbox is filled with messages from real-life professional athletes still in the closet. These athletes, reaching out privately via Instagram or through author Rachel Reid, have expressed how deeply they feel seen by the show’s nuanced depiction of the pressures and isolation faced by queer players in hyper-masculine environments.

Kris

I don't believe that this is soft porn at all. In shows like Bridgerton, True Blood, and Game of Thrones, straight sexual intimacy (simulated oral and intercourse) is so normalized it's barely a talking point; this show is vital because it offers that same normalization for queer sexual intimacy. One of my most recent obsessions I am anxiously waiting for season 2
