Serenity La’sandra

I’ve rewatched this episode many times to feel something lmao

Serenity La’sandra

My biggest vocal stem of this show is in this one “because Russia! I wouldn’t be able to go back to Russia” 🤣

Cathy Mills

Jumped on this so fast!!

Serenity La’sandra

I LOVE the women in this episode. How supportive rose was and the “I hope Jane knows how lucky HE is” 😭

Serenity La’sandra

The love confession in Russian?! and let’s talk about the cop car in the background right before he tells him he loves him 😭

Serenity La’sandra

The hope on their faces after watching Scott come out.. the best part of this episode! THIS IS WHY REPRESENTATION MATTERS ❤️

CLS

Omg finally someone agrees with me that he looks like Keanu Reeves! and Conner/Ilya looks a bit like young Patrick Swayze to me.

Serenity La’sandra

Yeahhhhh at this point it’s been like 9 years basically from where they started in ep 1 in 2008, this episode starting in 2017 … 😬🤣

Serenity La’sandra

God I love them but let this kind of situationship NEVER find me

Kristina Fagan

We shall 💜 Yep, that's what I thought too.

Hugabug008

I also think Connor looks like Patrick Swayze (esp. in the bathroom scene in Russia with Sasha during the Olympics) and the actor who plays Rose reminds me of Mandy Moore

Ashley Adcock

I love this episode… so many great moments that really show you how far these two have come.

tjamaicapogue

I'm cracking up because I had the same reaction when I first saw Connor Storrie out of character. He is legit the complete opposite of Ilya. In the comments on IG I see a lot of native Russian speakers praising his skills and saying they thought he was Russian or at least was raised in a Russian speaking household. In an interview Connor said he only had like a little over a week before they started filming to practice and then he had daily lessons while they were shooting. He is truly a generational talent and I hope he gets all the awards.

CLS

No joke this episode literally made me start dating again after being chronically single for over 6 years. Yeah I'm a straight 40 year old white woman but the romance and love just was so inspiring. It's soooo good.

Leigh Stigler

I left smoke trails getting to this one too Cathy!!🤣

Cathy Mills

I turned into the Flash 🤣

Marie-Soleil Dobie

OMGGG I have been waiting for this episode ALL DAY 😍😍

Clay W

YES! I've been waiting for you to react to this episode! This is the episode I finally connected with Shane and Ilya on the same level as Scott and Kip. It's only took 5 episodes and 9 years for them to open up on an emotional level, but who's counting? Man I wish we had more time with Scott and Kip's relationship because I feel like we're missing some context between episodes three and five. That being said that ending made me ball my eyes out tears of joy.

mya brown

“That is so awesome for the little nugget…Kip”Had me dead hahaha😂

Amanda P

The emotional payoff of this episode is INCREDIBLE. I love the balance of eps 1 and 2 starting off hot and heavy but the sex scenes also told a story and you could see the story start to unfold in their little moments, and then 4 and 5 they still think it's only just hook ups that they're doing but finally realize there's more there. When it finally clicks for Shane that he's gay and it's okay to be so, omg! So he goes to Tampa with a newfound confidence and knows what he wants. Just brilliant story telling. And I love the moment when Rose is asking about if he's been with another guy and he gets all teary thinking about everything 😭 that weight lifting off his chest. And yesss Ilya's confession just fucking punches you in the gut. And then all of that at the end, I love that we get to see them see history changing in real time, I love how just shook Shane looks lol. Ugh I love this show and can't wait for next ep (pleeeease don't make us wait another week 😂🙏) Also yes I love how different Connor is to Ilya, he's so bubbly and smiley. And Hudson is also flirty\cocky\playful in interviews when Shane is such a shy sweetie lol would totally love for you to react to some of their intereviews they're hilarious together (like reading thirst tweets is fucking unhinged)

Marie-Soleil Dobie

Lets fuckinnnng go to the cottage 😍🙏🏻❤️🥰

scarr

Yeah. So this is when my whole perspective on this show changed. My friend who loves a good gay romance as much as I do had been harping on me to watch this, and up until this ep I was like ok yeah this is a fun, very steamy but kinda unserious watch. And I was enjoying it for that. But then this episode! I was in awe and not breathing during the Ilya phone scene- for how much THAT made me unexpectedly feel things …but then this ending?!?! Yeah I mean that was SPECIAL. I loved seeing your mouth drop and breathing stop too when you realized what was happening…ugh I truly never tire of seeing people experience that moment!!! So excited for ep 6 🤗

Simone

AND THIS IS WHY SCOTT AND KIP'S BOOK IS CALLED "GAME CHANGER" BECAUSE THEY DID THAT !!!! My game changers! What a fucking power couple. So, the first few days after this episode aired, it was the SECOND best rated episode of TV... ever. It has since slid down a bit, but it is insane how fuckin' viral that last scene went, and that is the payoff for the standalone episode and it was so worth it. Scott reaching his peak, and seeing all of his teammates go to their families, realizing he has nobody, and stops denying himself that -- what point is there if he can't be at the peak without the one he loves (even after they broke up years ago). Such a beautiful story.

scarr

Ok wait. And this is why I love rewatching these episodes a million times because somehow I am JUST now realizing that the song playing keeps saying “I need sunshine” while Scott & Kip are kissing and like … that was what Kip’s friend had said to Scott when they were dancing …that Kip deserves sunshine and so does Scott … 🥺 … and NOW THEY HAVE IT 😭 I can’t with this 🌤️

Amanda P

i remember seeing jacob the creator saying he had the song in mind first because music is so important to him and so then he made the dialogue about sunshine 😭 brilliant man

Kenzie_kenz1

I burst into tears every single time Kip says, “You don’t have to do this.” Scott: “Yes. Yes, I do.” 🥹🥹🥹

jaimie✨

oh this made me so emotional. shane finally being able to tell someone and it being her of all people, and she just takes it on the chin and supports him

jaimie✨

this is my favorite episode so far

CJ

Mine is when Shane's in the hospital bed saying, "Heeeeeeyyyyy, bet-ter" 😭

clémence

See you at the cottage 😍

Chance Lee

God this episode. Every single one of the most memorable scenes. The conversation in Russian, the sportscaster commentary while Ilya watches Shane on the ice, the cottage invitation, and that phenomenal ending. I’m trying not to give too many details in case anyone reads this before watching the episode for the first time but wow. Just the best

Elina

For Shane, being gay is a very big deal. He wants to please others and tries to appear as perfect as possible to the outside world. He's Canada's "golden boy". This includes having a traditional family life with a woman. Before meeting Rose, Shane convinced himself that he could live a heteronormative life if he found the right woman. Admitting that his relationship with Rose didn't work out and accepting that he is gay means he will never be able to live up to this 'perfect' image. It also reveals his internalised homophobia. Shane only considers a relationship with Ilya when he realises that he can never have such a life with a woman.

Jade Coulthurst

So much to love in this episode - I think personally it's my favourite of this season, with finale a very close second. The show is so good overall though, and completely agree with seeing why it's so popular. And I love all the new talent acting wise - like you, when I heard Connor's (Ilya) real voice, my jaw actually dropped. He couldn't be more different voice and personality wise. Same for Hudson (Shane), but more personality ofc. He comes across very cheeky and comfortable in himself. But, anyway what an episode this is! And a great ending with Scott being brave and encouraging Shane and Ilya to step forward too. Love that! So much progress in this episode for Ilya for sure - I loved how vulnerable and open he was here with a bit of a push and reassurance from Shane. Can't wait for finale reaction.

Rachel

The Russian actors thought he was Russian btw

fenderr

The best episode in TV history imho

Natasha G

what's INSANE ABOUT Connor's Russian, is he had two weeks to learn what he had to say, on the show.
