I remember this finale feeling like a game changer after they introduced that flash-forward, when everyone expected it was a flashback

Finally the infamous flash forward. They really made you think it was a flashback. One of the biggest twists in tv history

I’m confused about why Jack made that comment about going to get his dad to see who’s drunker since he knows he’s dead?

I can explain that! The writers stated that It's because Jack was so high and emotionally gone that he was legitimately in a state where he forgot that his dad was actually dead. But in reality they were using it as a red herring for us to still believe we're in the flashbacks.

There's also more to that obviously but jack was super stoned/drunk/crazed. I loved the hints through out the two episodes, him asking the chief of surgery if he knows what he's been through. The fact that his pregnant ex wife actually showed up at the hospital. Him not wanting them to call his dad's office because he's not even alive while at the pharmacy. It's so well done!
