Your Sky - Episode 11

Held my breath with grandpa. Held it again with mom. Held it again why that and trust into tears. 😢😭 Rak's dad seemed like a different person in that sequence. It was like a switch flipped he was unrecognizable to the man we've seen thus far. Sad part is; there are parents IRL just like Rak's dad. The " I'm fine with the gays as long as it's not my kid" crowd.

Rak is a better human being than me. I have cut people off for much less. There's a whole family (Fah's) willing to love & accept him. If i was Rak I would have been gone & only keeping contact with grandpa, mom & sis.

👿👿👿👿 I have no patience for this kind of parenting. Its too close to home. My nephew knew he could come out to me safely. He only had to worry about Me going on a matchmaking shopping spree. I would burn all the houses over my nephew. 🧡🧡🧡🧡🧡 I adore how supporting Fah and the rest of the family were.

During the parents discussion I didn’t like the word disappointment..his vision of Rak can be achieved from either a woman or a man because his choice wasn’t yours doesn’t make it a disappointment because it still can be achieved. He still can have a family use his sperm and carry on the bloodline and be happy. Rak is good cause that night or when it looked like I was going to school my bag would have had clothes in them and I would have went to my boyfriends condo. Every action has a reaction and seeing your son no longer home cause you drove him away would of been a reality check

Although episode 10 telegraphed that Rak's father would erupt upon finding out Rak is dating Fah, the actual turn of events was far more explosive than expected. Quite frankly, Rak should have shared his sexuality with his father before his grandfather's birthday party. Turning the celebration into a "reveal party" was not a wise move, and it speaks to his predictable naïveté'. Arguably, Babe or Fah should have stopped him. Thematically, I welcome a BL that shows parents who are bitterly opposed to their children’s coming out revelation. Too often, BLs craft a make-believe world that depicts parents as fully evolved people who immediately accept their children's sexuality once shared, which is unrealistic. Tell the truth. When queer people come out to their families, many parents express, directly or indirectly, their anger, bigotry, fears, and disappointments. Using this plot device made the narrative better and more relatable, despite how troubling and triggering it was to watch. Showcasing Rak's mother's gradual acceptance (and lingering disappointment) and his father's initial bias and eventual understanding that Rak's happiness is of the utmost importance represent what some of us encountered when we came out to our families. Appreciating the eastern cultural implications of honoring your parents' demands to a fault, it was understandable when Rak extended his father undeserved respect and grace; yet, Rak's personal growth was also given validity when he found the courage to stand his ground about his commitment to loving Fah. Well done, writers.

I was having rebellious and angry feelings this entire episode. I could not have sat back and taken what the dad was dishing out like they all did. Rak, Babe, the mom and grandpa were all acting like people who are in a super controlling brain washing relationship with the dad. At least they didn't completely not tell him their thoughts but they still let him control his son and them for way too many days and who knows how long they would have supported his behavior. The tension and the oppression gave me major anxiety and I wanted to yell at him for them. They probably handled the situation in a more mature and better manner than I would have but I couldn't handle his oppressive control. I get that the dad thought he was doing what was "best" for his kid but he didn't even care to see every single person in his family's reaction to his behavior. He just chose to oppress them all. Thank goodness he calmed down and changed. This episode was super hard for me to take. Well, we now know where Babe got her way of dealing with Rak, lol. I'm so glad it was resolved in one episode! Poor babies. I did wonder if it was best to not do this on the grandpa's birthday but the snowball had already started rolling when his dad overheard his conversation with the puppy and jumped to conclusions... Oh well. Maybe we'll get more cuteness from here on. Fingers crossed.
