Dear Patrons

Just a quick message to keep you in the loop about recent developments following our latest Honest Government Ad | Visit Tasmania! - which covers the coming state election

On Monday we received this takedown notice from Tasmania's Electoral Commission after it received a complaint - from somebody [thinking emoji] - claiming our latest Honest Government Ad breached s196 the Tasmanian Electoral Act by showing a photo of the Tasmanian Premier. In a satirical video. One week out from an election. Apparently you can go to jail for that in Tasmania. Cool and normal.

As the ABC reported today the video has been removed from FB/Insta/Twitter while we prepare a suitable response. But it's still here on YouTube for now, where we've blurred out the Glorious Supreme Leader's photo. I'll let you know once we post our updated video!

Meanwhile, thank you so much for supporting our work. It's obviously helping to piss off the right people.Giordano

You're obviously hitting the target if you're pissing them off this much. Sterling work ❤️

Rose Elle

Absolutely fucking bonkers. Keep up the good work

Kylie Prestridge

That is simultaneously hilarious and enraging. You must have touched a raw nerve or two - good!

Peter K. Campbell

Congratulations; a takedown notice means that your message is getting through and that people are paying serious attention to you

Daniel

Great work juice team. General question - how are you able to edit the video without re-uploading it as a new video?

thejuicemedia

Thanks Daniel! YouTube offers some users editing tools to make changes post-upload, including blurring out faces and cuitting sections of a video

Riebeck

Not only does the government seem to be at odds with satire and humour, but I didn't expect the Electoral Commission would make the determination that it's not satire and is an advertisement 🤨

Jason Wotzko

Glorious Supreme Dumpling sounds in dire need of Egg Boi

Fenrir Wolfganger

It's "likely an advertisement", showing they know exactly what they're doing.

Martin Short

It's an advert ??!! Are they fucking insane - well yes, obviously tin-hat wearing gammons are not just found in the UK!! keep up the good work. As far as i am aware no such law exists in the UK so it would be good to see your take on the UK General Election (now ecpected in October)

Gary Smith

Where do they get their legal advice? From George Brandis perhaps... :D

SOB

That's a bit rich, considering the low act of cybersquatting they've used against Jacqui Lambie.

Iwan Boskamp

I'm happy to sponsor a part of the fine, but not willing to spend time in jail :)

William and Adwoa Steel

So nice of them to let you know you've hit them where it hurts! Hope this generates extra social media attention! The Wikipedia page on 2024 Tasmanian state elections has a photo -- must that come down?!?

Neil Meyers

Should I find it amusing that the Senior Policy Officer from the TEC is quoting a repealed Act? It's the Tasmanian Electoral Act 2004.... though s.196 remained unchanged

Tom Wiersma

Nice one! Keep the ads coming!

Tony latemore

What a bunch of Sooks, It shows just how politically dumb they are, Your Vid is now on every news service in OZ. The way their parks and wildlife services have persecuted local youtubers is a scandal as well. Keep it up Giordano and Team..

Jim McCarthy

If this is an advertisement, what about all the staged "announcements" that are displayed daily on the idiot box, by both parties? I don't blame the electoral commission, the can only work with the regulations they're given. And we all know who made those regulations.

thejuicemedia

wow I didn't realise that Neil, that is hilarious

Oliver Wehrli

I truly hope they get the attention they deserve but not the one they were hoping for!

Dan Q

From one American's point of view (mine), where I don't claim to understand the whole thing. Are they fucking kidding? They would be having a field day in the U.S. this political season.

2026-09-08 14:00 Tasmanian Liberals (apart from Brigid Archer) live in a time warp. 😱

Showing a photo of a public figure is illegal? Geez. Tassie is the only state I haven't visited, and they're not exactly priming me to change that any time soon.

Randall Krebs

Controversy can take you viral. Congratulations on your achievement!

jonesmike53 .

What are the buffoons going to do if everyone posts pictures of whoever the dipshit is ? Should you be talking with Julian Assange’s lawyers ? Would we all have to fight extradition to Tassie ? I see an opportunity to make an app that auto-generates take down notices !

Bryan A.

Just goes to prove it was a good ad..! Congratulations. 😉

Ian Woodhouse

Flying close to the flame... You must be doing something right 👍

Mark D Larsen

Goes to show that the Tas gov't has more snowflakes than Antarctica. Soooo petulant! As if voter's don't know the Prime Grifter's face already! Well, hell… just repost with a clown face over his head. 🤡 I say someone should use his face like in this satirical comedy: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=an0l0osfNF0&t=342s

Dan Stefanich

Good job, Giordano! (Except for the you-could-go-to-jail stuff)

FBOMB.Garage

I have donated from time to time, but the recent threats brought on by the Visit Tasmanis video inspired me to become a Patreon. Good job Juice team, Good job.

Dethjager

Lucky you guys are not whistleblowers /rolls eyes. Hope they get voted out.

Laurent Giroud

"The Electoral Commissioner is of the view the video is an advertisement [...]" Which proves the Electoral Commissioner has not done his job of watching the video before making up his mind. I hope there is a way to fight this in court.

Palitja Moore

I've shared the ABC story and then the video, again. These geniuses don't realise that censoring content makes it more viewed!! 😅

Iwan Boskamp

I think this is screaming for a Honest Government Ad for the TEC :)

Ernie Rosado

You Rock so of course you are breaching s196 the Tasmanian Electoral Act by showing a photo of ...i can't say his name cause i don't wanna get in trouble with Tasmania afficianados,,, so do another one about the U.S. Supreme Court as i believe no one will dispute you on that ☺

Daniel Ayers

The "offending" ad could always be published by someone outside of Australia, who would not be subject to the jurisdiction of the TEC.

Iwan Boskamp

I don't think that is the point of this. The "offending" was 0.5 second of displaying a photo. Blurring that only strengthened the video :)

Morten Poulsen

"... imprisonment for a term not exceeding 12 months" That sounds rather severe for using the image of a candidate without written consent. I wonder what the maximum penalty for deepfake porn is? Life without parole? I am also somewhat curious on the background for those rules. A lot of smear campaigns?

Adam Hunt

Nice work team, they couldn't have done a better job at getting a headline for you :) Sounds like the TEC might have understood that too...

Thomas in Tasmania

Sorry Giordano, it might be partly my fault. I took the piss out of TAS LIBS on twitter for being in potential breach of section 196 of TAS Electoral Act about a week ago. I possibly gave them the idea? My tweet was a joke. How silly of them to act on your vid. They just boosted your reach massively right before election day! Keep up the good work!!!

Rowan Davidson

Guaranteed to increase the clicks and help lift your profile. Well Done

Ewan McEwan

Glad to watch this even with the edits - we really do need to ‘decouple’ politicians, world-wide, from business and reconnect them to ‘the public’ (as in ‘service’, public service)!

Darren Thomas

Yes, I heard a rumour that Politicians were actually employed for the People's benefit, and not their own! I think this is outrageous and demand they take another 5% payrise so they can feel better about this scurrilous abuse of genuine, wonderful, neoliberal Statesmen and their divine shitfuckery! (now, THAT was also irony, People).

thejuicemedia

Great, Thomas, now I know who to thank! 😅🙌

thejuicemedia

Yes its a very strange law, hopefully it’s time is up after this

Adolfo

This is a testament to the influence you guys have and how afraid the govs are! Keep up the amazing work gals!

Nick Carruthers

How did the Electoral Commission form the view that it was an advertisement?

2026-09-08 14:00 Well this just inspired me to become a Patron - thanks for the nudge Tas Electoral Commission.

Lachlan Gemmell

I think you could make an argument that it's an advertisement (presumably unpaid) for votewild.org.au and by extension the Greens. A law prohibiting showing candidates seems quite strange, but the law is the law and I don't think Juice Media has been unjustly targeted. Keep up the good work though Juice. This one was as pertinent and funny as usual.

thejuicemedia

Thanks Lachlan. Whatever it was, it was definitely unpaid. But the legal advice i received was that it’s not an advertisement as intended under the Act. Would have made a very interesting High Court case if the prosecution had gone ahead (which it might still, let’s see)
