Dear Patrons, here is the latest Honest Government Ad you helped to produce. And it’s a BIG one.

Yup, this is what happens when you support us like legends; when you give us the time and funds to make videos: we go and pull out all the stops with an epic Honest Government Ad - the "Avengers EndGame" of Honest Government Ads.

I was originally planning to make quick and short videos about various election issues. And as you know we've ramped up production: we’ve already made seven HGAs in just four months. 

But a couple of weeks ago I decided to do something different. Because there’s already enough “noise” in the pre-election media. We all get caught up in the minutiae, to the point where we forget the bigger picture. And so we see all the “stuff that came before” being forgotten ie. relegated to history books, rather than “the news”.

Well I’m no journalist. But as it turns out, I’m a historian. And I crave the bigger picture. So I decided instead to make a longer-format historical HGA in order to help refresh voters' memories ahead of this election – reminding potential Liberal voters in marginal seats of all the harm that's been done by this Government since it was elected in 2013.  

As far as I know, nobody's put together a list of all this Government's shitfuckery. But somebody had to do it – because I don’t know about you, but I REALLY want this Government to fuck off at the coming election. It’s not even a joke. We honestly cannot afford another three years under this pack of coal-fondling, water-stealing, fish-killing, wage-suppressing, refugee-harming, encryption-breaking mendacious shitlords. So I did it. And as you might expect, it’s a sordid collection of shitfuckery. 

On a lighter note, this HGA is also our first season finale. I didn’t even realize it until I was writing it, but this HGA (hopefully) marks the end of an era. Coz I started making this series when this Government was first elected, in 2016, and I’m hoping it will not be in power by the end of this month. So I think that counts as a season finale?

That’s why this HGA at times feels like a celebration of the series – featuring some of the many topics we’ve covered over the past three years. I also included some of the top-requested topics that you sent us via the Advisory Board but haven’t been able to make HGAs about yet – such as the cashless debit card, negative gearing, the Murray-Darling and “Watergate” scandals, Norway’s sovereign fund. Thank you for all your excellent suggestions! And to really make this HGA a special treat, I asked both Zoë and Ellen to host it together – the first time they were both on the set together. It was a grueling 13-hour shoot, but we had a lot of fun! 

So what’s next? 

Well, I’m tired lol – I’ve been pulling 12-hour editing days for the past week to get this video done – but I’m not going to rest until after election day on May 18, that’s for sure. In fact, I’m hoping to make one more HGA before then. No promises but I’ll do my best!

And as for the Honest Government Ads series: I've seen people saying that if Labor wins the election we won’t have any more work to do. But I feel the opposite way. If the Coalition is voted back in – despite ALL the shitfuckery – then I kinda feel like, well… we’re screwed. 

Whereas, if Labor gets in there's hope AND there will be so much important work to be done, such as making sure they don’t get a free pass when it comes to dealing with the climate emergency – which is by now clearly the most critical threat we face as a species. 

So fear not: Honest Government Ads is not going anywhere. In fact we’re only just getting started. And it’s really all thanks to you legends.
