Welcome to the first new Honest Government Ad of season 2!Thanks so much to everyone who gave me feedback on the preview which I posted at the start of the week, and a big shout-out to Leanne for coming up with the genius “Authorised by Tourism New Zealand” message at the end! (proving that sometimes the best “Authorised by” messages are the ones that are completely unexpected haha). I really love crowdsourcing input, so I love that we can do this from time to time :)If you were around when we launched the very first Honest Government Ad, all the way back in 2016, you might remember that it was also called Visit Australia. Lucy and I made it in just a day. It seemed like a fun idea to try out. We had no budget, no actors (only Lucy’s voice), no animations - and NO idea this would turn into such a beloved ongoing series.Here it is in case you're curious: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V41-uYPXw6ISo this is why I’m kicking off Season 2 by revisiting that original HGA, updating it for 2019. (This might become a tradition for starting off new HGA seasons!)As you can see we've come a long way since the first HGA. And honestly it's entirely thanks to you – our Patrons – who made it possible to turn this into an ongoing thing; to have a budget to support all the work that goes into researching and writing the scripts; paying for actors and now also cool animations. So thank you.  So what’s in store for Season 2?! I figure this is the time to share with you some of the ideas floating around – with a disclaimer that these are *some of* the things I *hope* to bring about in season 2, rather than a set of promises. Partly coz I hate breaking promises, and also because surprises are fun! Starting local - I’d love to make a “Visit” HGA for each Australian state, bringing together local and global issues. For example, last year we made Visit the NT – which focused on fracking. I’d love to make Visit Queensland and Visit WA – focusing on the effects of the mining industry’s shitfuckery (coal and gas exports, respectively). Visit Victoria and Visit NSW – focusing on deforestation and species extinction. And so on…So if you like the idea of an HGA about your state, and you have ideas or links you’d like me to consider, please get in touch!I plan to make more international HGAs. We have SO many requests to cover events in the US leading up to the 2020 election; as well as the UK and other parts of the world – from Brazil and Indonesia to Bougainville and Norfolk Island. The list is endless.I also want to start “playing” more with the format of the HGA. It's such a privilege to make a series that people are quite familiar with now. We already reached the stage where we can have in-jokes and recurring gags - from the mashing calculator to "shitfuckery" and "cool and normal".The next step is having fun by bending the rules a bit. So for example, having multiple governments in each video – like we did in the Julian Assange HGA.And also, having HGAs set in the past – historic HGAs – revisiting past events to help us understand a present issue. (What historians ought to do!)And why not, maybe even Honest Government Ads set in the future.  HAHA ok – enough dreaming out loud from me. But one thing IS for sure – and this I CAN promise you: we have a lot of work ahead of us – there are so many troubling things on the horizon – and we're going to do our very bloody best to tackle all the shitfuckery and do our bit to raise awareness, slay bullshit, and keep us sane with some laughter along the way.So on that note, I’ll post this off so it reaches your inboxes – accompanied by my sincere thanks and gratitude to all of you for supporting our work here at the Juice Media.Giordano & fam
