Dear PatronsHere's the preview of our next Honest Government Ad! It's a rather dark HGA, i know. But that's kinda how we're feeling about where we're headed. And it wouldn't be an "honest" government ad if we didn't tell it like it is.        As you will quickly realise, this is a new style of HGA that I'm experimenting with: rather than having a host from a specific Government, eg. the Australien Government - I've gone with a generic representative of "The Government™". The reason I'm doing this is that whilst some issues are specific to certain nations, there are also many problems that clearly have no borders. Such as the climate emergency. So I thought: why limit this video's audience to a specific nation, when it's so relevant to everybody on the planet!?I will of course keep writing nation-specific HGAs, like always. But I'm hoping The Government™ HGAs will become one of our new formats going forward.  So please let me know your thoughts. There will be plenty of chances to develop its visual and narrative features, including the new logo - which Brent and I are working on right now.PS - we've been moving house over the past month, so I won't get this HGA out until the first couple days of September. I'm not too fussed about that as the timing is actually fine for supporting the global climate strike on September 20 (which I hope as many of you as possible will be able to be part of)However in consideration of this I'm making this Preview available to all Patrons, not just those in the $3+ tier, so that everyone can get a dose of genuine satire before the end of August :PThank you for your support and catch you in a few days, when I'll post the finished video!GiordanoICYMI: the Indonesian Government has complained to YouTube about our West Papua HGA, and now it's been blocked in Indonesia:  https://twitter.com/thejuicemedia/status/1166550365627699200 This was our official response:  https://twitter.com/thejuicemedia/status/1167263414407688192

Dark. Brilliant. And to the point. There is only now... keep up the great work...

Brett Massoud

Love it, hits the nail on the head. We are indeed fully fucked.

Alpheus Williams

Thank you Giordano and your wonderful staff for producing this. I can think of nothing more important. Hopefully we will see millions on the streets come 20 September. Crutches and all, I will be one of them.

thejuicemedia

Cheers Brett. We have a slim chance yet, but yeah - the time for hoping is over

HipCat Printery

We are fucked but that was funny and informative. We need to put the steel caps on and give some get fucked back to these political fuckups...

Keziah

Hard hitting indeed. My head was in my hands as I muttered "we really are fucked". There's no more opportune time for this ad, and yes, I will be using it to get as many people I know as possible out of their homes and onto the streets on Sep 20. Thank you for your hard work, ingenuity and commitment to making these brilliant ads x P.S. In answer to your question, I think the generic government thing works very well - these are global problems and this switch makes it more relatable to all your potential online viewers.

Les Landau

I'm not so sure. I like the HGAs being Australian centric, even when dealing with world issues (like climate change). There IS reference to Australia and what the Govt is/is not doing.

Les Landau

(Oops, didn't mean to press enter yet). I'm also getting a bit tired of hearing "shitfuckery" and "we're fucked" or some variation on that. Not that I'm offended, just a bit bored with the repetition. Surely you guys are so creative, you can come up with some variety!

Joel Muners

20 Sept... look, I’m on the fence given my ‘save the date’ for Area 51 raid.. that’s technically fighting ‘The Government’ right?

PETER K

climate change "we are fucked" Y2K Bug "we were fucked" Trump becomeing President "we were fucked" FEAR=CONTROL

thejuicemedia

Les thanks for the feedback but if you're tired of the shitfuckery, tell the Government to quit with the repetition - not me. I work hard to make our videos fun and diverse, but this isn't an entertainment channel. There's plenty of that already on Netflix.

Charlie Cohen

Maybe post it as from the bastards you voted for.Need to promote our individual blame for having it whilst we are eating our fucking cheeseburgers .Please checkout trumps golden toilet ,from the national estate [sic] and his tweeting hours .NYT.

thejuicemedia

complacency also = control. You are conflating things that are real and deserve fear (climate change), with things that are not (y2k)

thejuicemedia

Thank you for taking part in the coming global protest Keziah, I hope the video does inspire others to join us

thejuicemedia

Thanks for the feedback Les, i will always continue to make Aussie Govt ads - I'm not letting our Govt off the hook that easily :D

thejuicemedia

That's an excellent suggestion Charlie - I agree. That's something to include in the next one.

Richard Lea

Keep up up the good work! ❤️

Excellent and sadly so true. Have you seen this largest study to date Giordano? "The study, published in the journal Science, created a huge dataset based on almost 40,000 farms in 119 countries and covering 40 food products that represent 90% of all that is eaten. It assessed the full impact of these foods, from farm to fork, on land use, climate change emissions, freshwater use and water pollution (eutrophication) and air pollution (acidification). “A vegan diet is probably the single biggest way to reduce your impact on planet Earth, not just greenhouse gases, but global acidification, eutrophication, land use and water use,” said Joseph Poore, at the University of Oxford, UK, who led the research. “It is far bigger than cutting down on your flights or buying an electric car,” he said, as these only cut greenhouse gas emissions." "The new research shows that without meat and dairy consumption, global farmland use could be reduced by more than 75% – an area equivalent to the US, China, European Union and Australia combined – and still feed the world. Loss of wild areas to agriculture is the leading cause of the current mass extinction of wildlife." For those who are interested, watch Cowspiracy the documentary and check out Seaspiracy on Instagram and What The Health Film. All very imformative. I've been vegan for 15 years now. I knew about the Amazon rainforest disappearing at an acre a minute for years now due to animal agriculture and soy to feed animals in feedlots globally. Now it is more than twice that thanks to Bolsonaro and the main culprit is still animal agriculture. It is a moral imperative for peace and the planet that we go vegan.

I for one am loving the shitfuckery phrase! Words all have a specific meaning and shitfuckery as a word must be used where it applies! Hard to criticise when you've obviously nailed it. Well done on another painfully cathartic dose of dark reality wrapped in the most excellent and sharpest satire.

T

"We'll stop saying shit, when you stop the fuckery"

T

Thanks for the Extinction Rebellion plug! The International Rebellion starts on October 7.

Peter Goegan

We ARE fucked. Well and truly. I'm a keen gardener. This year my tomatoes cooked on the vine. First time it's ever happened. If you can't grow tomatoes then we are history mate.

joe lenzo

keep up the good work

joe lenzo

keep up the good work

thejuicemedia

Thanks T! I'll see if we can include the date in the visuals

thejuicemedia

Wow Jay thanks so much for the offer of help with visuals - I've been watching quite a few of the XR videos on your channel, awesome content!! I'll shoot you an email now

T

Some places are doing multi-day strikes: Climate Strike 20-27 September, International Rebellion Starts 7 October. But 20 September and 7 October are the key dates for Australia.

Josh Bowman

Would love a ‘clean’ version of this to show my students, this really helps sum up the issue.

Leanne

My only concern is that you want to get people off their bums and involved so that there is a big enough groundswell of people that politicians can't ignore & keep their heads in the sand or up their own or someone else's arse & I have no secret answer to that, but there has to be some element of hope portrayed. A slightly more positive spin on might just be doable, to will only be doable, the Wiggles screaming Wake Up Scott, Donald et al

Beryl Francis

So eloquent, so graciously presented and so bloody damn true. Thanks guys.

Pascal Bosshard

Great initiative, two things spring to mind however. We are increasingly faced with severe water shortages around the world, from South Africa, to India. The fresh water supply is fast disappearing. Illegally obtained fresh water through bore-water is a recurring issue seen in Capetown and Jakarta. Perhaps worth cosidering as a major impact? Also the youth are extremely active and involved in positive action and would benefit from a sanitized version also giving them other ideas on how to help. Even though it's a global issue, keeping the focus on local issues at our government level will help people relate and be part of the solution. If we're too generic, it leads to apathy and disconnectedness, when we really need the opposite. Especially in our world of anonymous online personas.

thejuicemedia

Thanks for this feedback Leanne. Believe me, I did consider this! I think there's two schools of thought atm about how to proceed. It feels like we're crossing a threshhold from trying to be positive, to stating things as they are. People have tried to spread positive messages for decades... and look where we are. Even Greta has been saying "i don't need you to hope, I want you to panic". So I've been trying to capture that sentiment... I'm familiar with the notion that people don't respond well to fear campaigns.. but curiously, this seems to only apply to environmental and humanitarian issues! Fear seems to be used effectively for things like drunk driving ads, and anti-smoking labels etc. But yes you're right - some people won't appreciate this approach. I guess it depends on where people are at. I guess this is a reflection of where I'm at... so that's what I was inspired to write.

thejuicemedia

Thanks for the feedback Pascal. Agreed on pont 1! Re point 2: yes, we'll put out a PG version asap after the video goes up. Interesting point re the global vs local. I think the ideal would be to talk about both perspectives. But yes, I get what youre saying

Edward Lander

Gritty. Brutal. Honest. Thank you Giordano. I hope it galvanises the climate justice movement. I look forward to seeing the finished video.

Edward Lander

On a more personal note, I also transitioned recently from the 'nudge people into better habits' into the 'tell the brutal honest truth' approach. After seeing such an amazing and promising climate justice movement flourish over the past year or so, yet seeing very little meaningful changes in government policy, I felt the only way to encourage people to take the necessary action on climate change is to help them see the situation as I see it (ie. not good).

Larysa Firehawk

Noice! Just like everything i have come to expect from the Juice. Keep pouring it on, Baby! Keep up the Good Work, you are doing a Great Job.

Petri Hietanen

This is so good!! Honored to be a Patreon to you :-)

Preston Maness

"Authorized by the department for going gentle into that good night." Top notch.

Maria Silva

Hi Guys, Thank you for another truthful in your face creation. My family loves your work and we will always support you. Happy moving!

Leanne

Yeah, I get that & I know that I personally don't respond well to the fear ad's in any context, but also wanting to occasionally smash a keep cup of the person who thinks buying yet another one is a solution. Enjoy your (first?) Fathers Day

thejuicemedia

Thank you Leanne, it's my second father's day actually. Luca and Lucy made me a special breakfast and a card. Perfect fuel for smashing the last day of editing this video :)

Gravity

You could mention biodiversity making everything else fucked, not just humans, and sea-level rises making ~200M people need to move elsewhere, and it will mean we have less food to eat (so people go hungry, ie historically delayed corn planting). They're pretty provocative ideas. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/science-environment-48169783 and https://www.theguardian.com/cities/ng-interactive/2017/nov/03/three-degree-world-cities-drowned-global-warming?CMP=Share_iOSApp_Other and https://twitter.com/ScottIrwinUI/status/1133754844941094917

Giordano and friends...as an ageing keyboard warrior I've noticed the emergence of the Coal Trolls...those who claim to be left and Labor...and who continue to lurk about screaming jobs, jobs, jobs ... in spite of the latest reveal that the Australian Tax Payer subsidises this toxic shit to the tune of billions...and the recent reveal in the Guardian that Adani will cost 4.5 billion in infrastructure. Perhaps fodder for a future satire? Here's something from 2014 that mat prove useful too: https://www.tai.org.au/content/what-have-state-mining-subsidies-cost-you

T

Looks good! Those are the dates for the UK's actions. XR is decentralised, so other countries will have different dates. But all start October 7. The best worldwide signup link is https://xrebellion.org/

T

Thanks so much for your support! It really means a lot. 💚

thejuicemedia

Of course! 💚 Thanks for those details! Regarding the link, I was thinking of using this one, which XR just tweeted an hour ago with the caption "our new international site": https://rebellion.global/index.html Re dates: ok!

Nobody

Can you tell us the ETA of the vid on youtube so I can like the shit out of it?

T

Yeah that link seems good.
