Dear Patrons

Here's the podcast companion to our latest Honest Government Ad, about the Quiet Australia Policy - which I hope you enjoyed. This is my first attempt at an extended guest interview and I am stoked to have been able to have as our first guest the former Australian Senator and all-round great human being, Scott Ludlam. This is my ideal kind of podcast: one that covers all the shitfuckery going on - we discuss everything from the fires currrently raging in Australia, the climate emergency, the way extinction rebellion is responding to valid criticisms, state capture, what we can do to take action, and more - whilst also delving into some big ideas, and hopefully leaving you inspired and perked up :-)You can listen to the episode by clicking through and listening directly here on Patreon.Or you can access it via our website here: https://www.thejuicemedia.com/podcast - where you'll also find all our previous podcasts.I hope you enjoy Ep7; please let me know your feedback in the comments or via message, I'm really interest to know how the podcasts are being received.Take care and, as always, thank you for making this work possible!Giordano

Limits to growth! Distance from nature. Living in a bubble! Converging crises! The Goddess Shoe Drops! Pressure for change emerging History is Happening Today is history for Tomorrow aaaaaand the data for transition is conservative and seriously disruptive? yeah Extinction is disruptive you might say Imagine if the bs shitfuckery was the BEST case scenario

PS I forgot to say this: sincere condolences to all our Patrons in the UK. We have an inkling of what it feels like :(

This was great listening to Scott and Giordano. As an active member of XR I was particularly interested in the discussion around XR and its response to legitimate criticism. Always room for improvement, but I think we are getting there, if sometimes slower than is needed. In regard to working more closely with and listening to First Nations people, there is an upcoming gathering in Canberra in February see https://www.facebook.com/new.dreaming.australia/ and also there is a Peoples Climate Assembly in planning for February https://www.facebook.com/peoples.climate.assembly which is working with First Nations peoples as well as groups across Australia that are fighting for a better future for Australia

With you on your despair and fears of the loss of individual freedoms/rights but not with u in being committed to the idea of a link between anthropogenic climate change and NSW bushfires. I am more inclined to the view that arson and bad luck have jointly conspired 2 gives us those.

thejuicemedia

Thanks Michele, really glad you got so much out of it :)

thejuicemedia

Awesome thanks for the links John, and glad you got something out of the discussion on XR!

Ahh Giordano , you've done it again :) Insightful, enlightening and entertaining - the perfect podcast. Absolutely terrific to hear from Scott again, I have enormous respect for him. I'm thinking (hoping) that post-capitalism will be inevitable, a product of an overwhelming movement against ubiquitous inaction by the current leaders. Of course, to get there people have to be willing to tear down our current governmental structures, to stand up and say 'enough!' Imagine the current day Hong Kong but 300 fold greater, spreading across the world. There will be crisis, there has to be, sadly. It's the human way .

OH HELL YEAH SCOTT LUDLAM! Super stoked to see him back. Cheers for the UK condolences Giordano, although I must admit my first thought about the results was how this must be how all the Aussies felt after their recent election. Given brexit is likely to come to a head soon, and we'll probably finally leave next month, I'd love to hear you potentially do an episode on all the Brexshitfuckery that's been going on. Especially since I recall you adopting a eurosceptic stance in rap news 31, it'll be nice to hear from someone who acknowledges that the idea of brexit isn't necessarily terrible, but the absolute handling of it as little more than a tory civil war is. (unless I've misinterpreted your views on the matter, in which case, my apologies!) Keep up the fantastic work as always, my man!

Dave Clarke

That is not science. It is rhetoric. I have a maths/phys science background btw.

thejuicemedia

Thanks Todd, glad you liked it! I have to agree, this is my favourite kind of podcast :)

thejuicemedia

Thanks CS1. I would love to make a UK video at some stage. I've been meaning to for a while, but shitfuckery here at home has kept us busy. About RN31: it's odd, when we wrote that episode we didn't really feel like it adopted what's come to be known as a "eurosceptic" position. This was a year before Brexit. We were making a video about austerity policies which I see more as a neoliberal thing affecting most countries of the world, not specific to the EU. I think there are both positive and negative aspects to the EU but I don't know that I'd call myself a eurosceptic. I guess I just don't really know enough about it to really have a strong opinion!

thejuicemedia

100% agree that Brexit was handled like a dog's breakfast though!

Witticisms aside (and I really want to), this gives me so much needed faith. I've spent all too much time in the public service and drunk hand holding in canberra back yards to hear this in the public domain only just now. Thanks Juice and well said Scotty.

Nick

Buggered if I know the devil's detail here, but I know one thing in this. (Even) As a several gen Aussie. Scotland and Ireland do not support England for much.... For hundreds of years. I'm sure this matters as well.

CS1

Peace between Scotland and England is only recent in terms of historical context (given how many wars we had over several centuries), and hell, The Troubles was barely a generation ago. Most people don't seem to care about those sorts of things, though - much like climate change, unless it's impacting our day to day lives here and now, the average member of the populace doesn't seem to care about the future ramifications unfortunately.

Dejan Tesic

Love to hear Scott's perspective, thanks for that.

I miss Scott Ludlam being in the Greens Senate, he really was a light in the dark there when it came to all things technology and they went after him for it. A true rockstar, now fighting the good fight with Digital Media Rights Watch.

thejuicemedia

Miss him too as a senator, but I have a feeling we'll be hearing a whole lot frim him in other ways going forward :)

Fire scientist David Packham says it's fuel, not climate change although I do not understand why no one is talking about (or even aware of for the most part) hygroscopic weather modification (chemist here). It's prolific in Australia (and laden with combustible aluminium: https://www.2gb.com/podcast/scientist-david-packham-on-whats-really-causing-the-bushfires/ http://weathermodification.com/ https://tottnews.com/2018/06/25/australian-companies-manipulating-our-weather/
