Dear Patrons!Here is the latest Honest Government Ad we've produced together thanks to your monthly contributions. And this time I want to say this at the very start: thank you SO much for making it possible for us to do this work.As you know, most of the videos we make tend to focus on a specific issue - which is great for helping people better understand that issue.But for this HGA, I really wanted to cover a whole range of issues and show how they fit together. Because sometimes it's important to step back and look at the picture that forms, when we join the dots between the seemingly separate shitfuckery that's unfolding left, right, and centre.With a few exceptions, most of our media isn't very good at (or interested in) doing this dot-joining exercise. Which unfortunately makes it easy for most people to ignore how our government is sliding towards authoritarianism.The result is that we're slowly, collectively learning to normalise authoritarian governance: from accepting the prosecution of whitsleblowers and raids on journalists, to threats of outlawing climate protests and boycotts - all packaged in a shiny bullshit PR slogan: "Quiet Australians".So, I thought we could all do with some honesty from our Government about where we're inevitably headed with all this.  I hope you enjoy it. Although "enjoy" might not be the right word. I hope... it helps to raise awareness. And for those who already see what's happening, I hope it lets you know you're not the only one. Obviously you are all for employees having the legal right to whistle blow to the media (and to exercise the same when other avenues have failed) and a big part of me is in resonance with this. What about the argument, though, that exposing GOVERNMENT incompetence and corruption undermines the faith of people (especially young people) in the institution of government?

Government incompetence and corruption has always been around and will always be around. It is bound up with its nature and independent of the identity of the people occupying specific positions. They are like actors playing predetermined roles. You will always be able to find examples to expose. So what is the goal of such an exercise?

But your counterpoint is that we shouldn't know how (in)effective our government is because that might make us unhappy. A core part of democracy is that we get choose a different government if we're unhappy with the one we have. That's what makes whistleblowing important.
