Dear PatronsHere's the preview of our next Honest Government Ad - a continuation of our coverage of the global pandemic. After the past couple of episodes focusing on the global situation, I thought this would be a good time to focus our own Australien Government, where - after a brief hiatus of relative competence - the shitfuckery has well and truly resumed. As you know the Australien Government is sort of a placeholder for all shit governments, since many of its policies resonate with many other governments around the world. This is certainly the case with the topic of this video - which applies to all governments who are opting to squander this historic moment to address inequality and the climate emergency, in favour of The Same Old Shit™. While I have your attention, I also have a couple of important updates!1. In the coming days Patreon will send you a message to inform you that due to new laws passing in several countries and US states, they will be required to start charging sales tax on some pledges starting July 1st.  Please note that these changes will not affect you. I won't take up your time with all the details, other than to inform you that I've reported to Patreon that none of the rewards we offer are taxable, which means our Patrons should not be charged sales tax. (If at some stage this should change, I will of course inform you).As mentioned, Patreon will be sending you more details in the coming days; and if you'd like more info, you can find it here.2. I also wanted to let you all know why this month's Honest Government Ads will be a few days late. If you don't care, feel free to skip this. But I thought many of you would appreciate to know some background, so here goes!As you know, we normally stick to a monthly schedule. We just passed the 4 Year Anniversary of this series (!) and we've managed to do that for the past four years. But a few things have changes in the past few months...Firstly, the Covid lockdown caused a bit of havoc in our home since we haven't had access to our usual support with Juno and Luca (newborn and toddler, respectively). Thankfully we are all well and healthy. But recording and filming have been hard without the help of babysitters, which has slowed us down a bit. And thankfully this is slowly coming back to normal as the lockdown eases.Secondly, the podcast has become way more successful than I expected - (wait till you see who some of my next guests are!) - especially since I started publishing it to YouTube. I love doing the podcast and I can see it becoming a really powerful sidekick to the Honest Government Ads. But as it grows, it's also started taking up more time. Which is why I'm currently in the process of engaging an editor to take the production work off my hands. But most importantly, the Honest Government Ads I'm writing this year have been slightly longer and more complex to write because I'm trying to accord the massive issues we face a deeper, more thoughtful treatment. I'm starting to touch on more structural themes, as well as single issues. And I'd like to not only satirise and critique, but also provide some inspiration and solutions, so we don't just end up leaving folks feeling overwhelmed by the shitfuckery!I feel this is an important part of the natural evolution of this series. And I think it's particularly necessary to do it now, a US election year, when there's so much heavy shit going down, and so much at stake. But it also means the writing and production can take a bit more time!Given the above, I thought: rather than getting overly preoccupied with an artificial monthly deadline - which can be counterproductive to good creative output! - I'm better of taking a bit more time if needed to focus on the above approach to writing the HGAs.So whilst my aim is to bring you one Honest Government Ad per month, I wanted to explain why this might not always happen (such as this month); and I hope you'll find that the quality and content of the videos - as well as the podcast - makes up for these small delays.I hope you support my approach. But either way, I would love to know your thoughts.Thank you so much for supporting our work, and I hope this finds you and your loved ones in good health amidst the crazy time.   Catch you very soon for our next Honest Government Ad, which will be coming out around the middle of the week!GiordanoPS. If you don't want to sign in to Patreon, you can listen to the preview of the HGA herePPS. Since the video is a few days late (we filmed it today), I am sending this Preview out to all Patrons

Bullseye! Can't wait to see —and pass along— the video. It's certainly DERP in this country that, because of the panDAMNit, over 40 million of the working class are now on unemployment, while our top billionaires increased their wealth by 485 billion. The oligarchs' response to the crisis is obviously: "Let them eat caca."

Incredible work guys! The best yet by the sound of it, incredible job girls, with just the right amount of tones and varying delivery speeds to cover all the bases, not a dull moment, ever. The script is amazing G, the visuals are going to make it spectacular . This is such an exciting form of News Art, so glad to be involved, a little. cheers!

Peter Todd

Nice, savage and to the point... as always :) This is worth kicking up a stink about and I think the elevated tone is deserving. Great, great work and worth the tiny delay. Well done to everyone!

Robert Bismuth

Brilliant! Wasting historic opportunities indeed. So sad that the US is not the only nation up to such deceptions while us little people are "distracted" and locked in place. Seems a common thread in so many nations at the moment. As you said, our children (and, I would add, their children's children) will be tasting this for a very very long time.

Eric Epstein

Wonderful! Here is a suggestion, produce a joint video with Trae Crowder in the U.S. comparing failed government leadership in both countries.

Ian Gardner

Brilliant bit of research and writing.! I love the historical reference and comparison to the FDR's New Deal. You guys & girls just keep getting better! On a different but related subject, I do hope you get Naomi Klein back on your podcast again - she was amazing! (and I don't say that just because I too am Canadian

Laurence Ranking

I love your work but jeez it's hard to hold onto hope we'll ever be ok sometimes

John Elgin

You can also add to the shitfuckery hall of fame the Robodebt scandal. Atrocious balls up

Kim Hillier

The Department for Enriching Rich Pricks sends its thanks and condolescences.

T

Wow, that's bleak. I guess it's time to re-open protests.

Edward Pickering-Symes

Enjoyed this in a dark way as our Shitfuckery is also killing us here in Britain. Our latest is our road-building programme has just tripled to £90 billion, while the police arrested Extinction Rebellion protesters standing 3 metres apart in silence and ignored beach lovers lying on top of each other. Cool and normal! If only there was a struggling national health service they could spend our money instead...

Madams

Loooove it. Keep up the brilliant work guys

Param Berg

Great stuff. Keep it up!

Jon Bruce

Bloody Brilliant! I'm almost relieved we can now get back to exposing this governments BS and highlight what they should be doing instead. This is an historic opportunity for real reform which can't be left to waste.

Andrea Coffey

I'd much rather 'slipping' the self-imposed schedule a tad, for an even better HGA.Thank you for the excellent work.

Pauline

Great job, with so much going on, from every quarter, you manage to give an across the board view of the overwhelming shitfuckery. Thank you!

Hilary

Another Masterpiece <3

Tony Marshall

all great, except just near the end (2:59) "like dutto's something something new laws" - can't quite hear the burn, which I'm sure is awesome. I think your choice of narrators is amazing - they always strike the perfect condescending tone that the actual government seems to take with us.

thejuicemedia

Thanks for letting me know about that Tony, we'll check it out!

Dr Krieger

As always, bloody brilliant! Keep it up!

Xavier Hoenner

So informative, so much research work goes into those three-minute media pieces to eventually make that information easily accessible to the public. Great journalism guys, keep up the astounding effort, very proud to support you.

David F. Priest

I don’t think I got the notification so didn’t have an opportunity to comment before. I agree that the climate crisis is the existential threat of the century, but you’ve completely ignored the 2020 existential threat; the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) is the dragon in the room, yet you have made no mention of corrupt Dictator Dan’s plan to press ahead with the Chinese government’s bait & rob initiative as I had requested through my support on Patreon. Despite losing my job in asset management due to standing up against the CCP; I continued to support this channel believing that it would tackle the important issues that really matter right now and as you have failed to do that I am pulling my support effective immediately.

thejuicemedia

Huh? The Advisory Board is a way for people to suggest topics they'd like us to cover, not some executive order list I have to follow. (So much for hating dictators...) Anyway, thanks and bye David

Georgina Sneyd

Love your work, you're so well informed and, so concise with your message, thank you for what you do. I'm always sharing you content!

Kris Thomas

wtf, calm down a bit David.. maybe they'll cover it later, maybe they won't. Your love turned into hate pretty quickly over something that they haven't even said anything about.

Caron Passmore

Thank you so much for all that you do to make the world a better place. So sorry that there are so many corrupt and unethical people ruining it for everyone else. Please do keep highlighting the issues with the appalling governance of Australia. They, along with so many others, are sacrificing the children’s future for their own selfish and evil purposes. I wish to express my sincerest thanks for all that stand up to such malevolent and wicked behaviour and risk so much by doing so.

Eric Vlaanderen

Has your wife considered being a radio presenter? Listening to this for the first time without visuals, I'm just imagining a radio program like war of the worlds, but with this voice talking about real problems... I'd listen... Or perhaps actual radio ads... Hilarious and a whole new audience

Eric Vlaanderen

I just got really excited about this idea, it's about 10k for a radio ad according to google, I'd happily pitch in!

thejuicemedia

Thanks for the suggestion Eric, Lucy will be flattered to hear it :) Not sure about radio, but maybe for the podcast? We'll see! :)

Eric Vlaanderen

Alright, I'm notoriously bad at pitching half thought through ideas and I realise that right now I'm just an internet nutter that likes your work enough to support it. So a bit about me, my background is in computer science and I've just recently moved back to Australia to study marine science and I'm used to just throwing ideas into meeting rooms to see what happens. Here's my idea (I'm cool for you to ignore this completely don't worry); it's a local election, you purchase an ad (Kickstarter funding maybe), it couldn't say "a message from the Australien government" obviously, so something like; "Hi, we're NOT from the Australian government, this is probably for the best because the government is currently (insert witty scathing review of the latest self serving policy or two, followed by why there's no such thing as wasting a vote)". I think it could be really powerful, but I'm just an internet nutter 🤓
