Dear PatronsHere's the preview for our next Honest Government Ad.We've had so many requests to make HGAs about the US as we approach the 2020 election - so here we go. I hope you like how it sounds.If it goes well, I plan make more Honest Trump2020 Election Ads between now and November.  Coz even though we're all the way down here in Australia, the result of this election will impact everyone on earth. It's probably going to be the most crucial election of our lifetimes. So I figure it's one of those all hands on deck, let's do our best to lend a hand to our friends in the USA - kind of thing.We'll publish the video before the end of the week. If anyone has some suggestions for the Authorised By message, please let me know in the comments!I also want to thank you all for your amazing patience. I've taken longer than expected to make a new HGA; but you've all been incredibly supportive and understanding. As you know, we're back in Covid lockdown here in Melbourne, due to a spike in cases, which presents its own challenges especially with small children in the house. But also I really needed time to get up to speed with what's happening in the USA so I could get my head into the zone for writing this HGA.So, thank you all for riding out this long pause with me. We're back now, and I hope you like where we're going with this.I'll catch you very soon when I've finished editing the video! Dunno Giordano, it’s a big leap. Foreign interference? Might come back to bite you. Don’t mean to sound like a pussy however, in terms of your ‘collective’ ‘we’ and ‘our’ tends to shift a lot of what you say away from the fact that much of these issues are ‘captains calls’ from Trump and not necessarily the Republicans. Just look at what’s coming out from The Lincoln Project and how they target Trump directly.

Love your work. That is why I am a patron. But, unlike your Australian videos this is just way too complicated in my view in terms of content ( I know I am bucking the trend here). Simple is best in my view. If you want to get up to speed in terms of what is going on, the Lincoln Project and MeidasTouch on Twitter are making some excellent videos. Not for one moment am I suggesting you copy but if you are wanting the touchstone issues, they will give you the inspiration if not some ideas to make your own. Please accept these thoughts as positive encouragement.

Thanks for the feedback, Ian! You know, the US Government has been interfering with our politics here since at least 1975, when they helped get rid of Gough Whitlam. I realise I am conflating Trump and the GOP. The way I see it, if Republicans are going to keep facilitating Trump's bullshit, if they don't stand up to him, then they deserve to go down with him.

Hi there, I agree with Damien - too much at once and packed in too tight. The first part was brilliant. Just Covid & BLM has enough for half an hour in my opinion. The financial crisis - yes everyone needs to know but it was a different administration and there's too much I'd like to see Trump get done for - it's urgent. Like how he wanted to get people off health care (now?!?!) by changing 'ObamaCare' Like US doesn't have a health system, but a corporate enrichment via medicine program. And every step of their Covid response. If you keep it focussed on Trump, then it will target Trump – if you bring in a lot of other stuff, it starts to sound like we're just dumping on America and it could be counter-productive. Also I'd love something I can share with people in the US - and that they will share with every person they know, but for that the swearing we love is not as share-able over there. I'm sorry but I wouldn't be able to share this. The Aussie videos you make are completely perfect & I love them - but the US I think needs something a bit slower, clearer and less ironic (um... no offence yankies, but I've never been able to get away with leaving subtle irony unspoken - they always have to articulate the punch line - it's also a 'thing' that marketing people and language teachers learn: the differences between US & UK humour (Aus is just like the UK in that regard)). Please help us with this - you're the only hope we have. I promise I'll give you more money :-/

Hi Giordano, very nice work as always. I tend to agree with both Elle and Damien, there's A LOT of content in here to process. I think it wouldn't hurt to simplify and keep the targeting simpler and more direct, put some aside for another HGA. And you might consider slowing the pace down a little. That's just my gut feeling :)

Thanks for the feedback, Elle. I think much of the "complexity" will be eased when you can see the visuals. The audio by itself can be misleading as there are elements which only make sense with the visuals; and that's because it's only intended as a preview. For example, the "bailout" referred to is not the financial crisis, as you say, but the bailout that passed this year (the CARES Act). So it's absolutely focused on Trump and the GOP, throughout. But I take your general point on board about complexity. My aim with this first Trump2020 HGA is to give an overview to connect things together. If it goes well, we'll make some follow-ups - and they will be more focused and targeted. So thank you for that feedback. As for the swearing, I've actually toned it down quite a lot... But ultimately, this is our style. Our Coronavirus video had plenty of swearing and it had over 12M views mostly in the USA. John Oliver gets away with plenty of swearing too. Perhaps there's an exception for "outsiders"?! I dunno! But ultimately this is our style and as always, some will like it and others won't. But let's see how the video comes out and how it is received! Meanwhile, thank you for taking the time to give me your thoughts on the audio

Great work! As above this is just what Ameridah needs right now to wake up the floating voters. At 2.43 the New York Mafia accent is spot on but garbles some of the words. I think she says "Purchase the military just in case we need to stay you cool policy" but I couldn't quite make it out. Hope this helps and is not annoying. Please keep up the good work. You cover such a lot in this one and it's both funny and hard-hitting. Thank you!

One important comment from an American perspective: We’re much bigger prudes than you are, here in the US, and the swear words you use are vastly more shocking to Americans than they are to you. It’s a cultural/linguistic thing about the US that people who haven’t lived here may find difficult to comprehend. However: as you say, the upcoming election carries worldwide importance. I’m sorry you can’t vote in it, and I feel the terrible weight of the world in the struggle against our idiotic president’s willful incompetence and utter corruption. Which is why I want to point out that your inclusion of the words “shit” and “fuck” will cause too many of my unenlightened countrymen to simply dismiss your message out of hand, reducing your reach and influence. Don’t get me wrong: I love the (apparently Australian?) coinage of “shitfuckery.” It’s the perfect word for our times. (I realize that it wasn’t used in this piece.) But consider this: America was founded by Puritans. (I myself am the great-grandson x 8 of one of the founders.) Our Puritan heritage still resonates here in ways that are perhaps difficult to comprehend abroad. I’m something of a linguist, like my great x 8 grandfather, who learned the languages of native Americans and in so doing, earned enough respect and confidence and local power that he founded the State of Rhode Island, one of America’s original 13 colonies. His influence derived largely from linguistic intelligence, a fact I mention here only to add leverage to my argument. To ensure that your essential message enjoys the widest possible reach in the US, I implore you to ensure that the G-rated version will be highly prioritized. The simple reality in much of America is sadly this: for the sake of a few small vulgar words, more people will take offense and dismiss your content in its entirety than will be informed and enlightened by the 99.99% that remains. I say this as someone who admires and respects your work, including the f-bombs. (Note the usage of the word “bomb.”) But your essential message is so important to our planet that I comment here in reply to your earnest appeal in the hope to help extend your reach as much as possible. I suspect that it’s not worth the hassle for this one. But for future work aimed at the American market, please bear it in mind. Thank you for your great work. Be well and stay healthy and safe.

I agree with David Boe although don't think it's that big an issue. However since the use of words like "Fuck" are used so seldomly in the piece, I don't think you would lose any "punch" by picking another, less caustic word. To the point you raised, Trump and his Justice Department are in the business of suing people like you, so I'd suggest starting the piece by saying something like "Consistent with many pro-Trump informercials, we're also not from your government"....BTW, and perhaps unlike most of your U.S. supporters, I believe Biden will be very positive for the U.S./world and serve as a stepping stone to a more liberal future agenda for the country and the planet.

As someone born and bred in the United States, I appreciate your attention to our politics. I think you are correct about this being the most important election, for the world, in several decades. I would request that you continue to make and distribute HGAs poking fun at Australia. One of the failings of many of my countrymen/women is that we are ignorant about other countries and cultures.
