Dear PatronsHere's the latest Honest Government Ad that you've helped us to produce!I realise Australia’s pandemic situation is much less shit than many other countries' - including ones where many of our non-Aussie Patrons live. Our relative success, however, is far less thanks to our federal Government's pandemic response, than it is to some of our States’ efforts – not to mention the sacrifices made by all of us, and especially frontline healthcare workers. Our federal government's key policy has been to not listen to experts until the eleventh hour and then blame everyone else - State Premiers, limo drivers, all of us - for the resulting shitshow. So I figured it’s time to finally make an Honest Government Ad about it.As always, I’m not interested in only making jokes about our Government’s bellendry – although that’s definitely part of it (as you can see I went to town with the puns in this one. (It’s a pundemic!). More importantly, I wanted to use this opportunity to help amplify a few critical messages that experts and epidemiologists have been trying to communicate: about the airborne transmission of Covid, and the direct links between the failure of the current hotel quarantine system and the constant outbreaks and lockdowns we’re seeing – such as the one gripping Sydney right now.I feel like our media hasn't quite helped us to connect the dots and so I figured it was time to help them and our government out. I hope you like the result.Special thanks to Brett, one of our patrons, for suggesting the Smirks and Shirks for the "Authorised by" line (I just added the desk bit to complete the picture)!I'll catch you soon for the podcast companion to this HGA - we'll try to get it out early next week as this is a very topical episode.Ellen will be publishing the PG version later today so keep an eye on our Teachers page.BTW: Ellen made a video to accompany our previous Honest Government Ad, which was about our government's interference with our science agencies - check it out!
