Dear Patrons

Here’s the latest Honest Government Ad you’ve helped us to produce. It’s a couple of days later than what I’d planned, due to my head accident (thanks for everyone’s concerns, I’m much better now) – but I hope you like how it’s turned out.

This one’s part of our Climate Shitfuckery series in which we’re picking off each one of our government’s (and many governments’) strategies to avoid serious action on the climate crisis. We started off with the Kyoto Carryover Credits; then it’s EV policy (FFS); then the infiltration of our science agencies (CSIRO/BoM). And in this HGA we look at one of the key pillars in our Government’s “Technology Investment Roadmap” to reach Net Zero emissions: Carbon Capture and Storage. I plan to cover others, eg. “Clean Hydrogen” as we head towards the election. It’s my hope that this series of HGAs will help to improve public literacy around climate and energy policy, so that more people will be better equipped to recognize bullshit solutions to the climate crisis when they spot them in the wild - not just here in Australia, but elsewhere too. We couldn't do this important work without you, our Patrons - so as always: thank you for your ongoing support of the Honest Government Ads.We’ll dive into more details about CCS in the Podcast companion for this HGA, which we’ll aim to publish early in the new week. And we’ll add the PG version to our Teachers page shortly, for those who need it. But for now, I hope you enjoy this new Honest Government Ad. Stay safe Love from all of us here at The Juice Media Giordano & team Link to YouTube videoLink to Facebook videoTwitter & Insta videos coming soon

Absolutely excellent, powerful, direct and no holds barred!

Some of the followup could focus on this [link]?? On the spectrum of irresponsible shitfuckery, this is at the "painting the molasses silos brown" end of the spectrum. ^^If you don't understand the reference, go look up the Great Boston Molasses Flood, where "the tank leaked so badly [before rupturing and killing 21] that it was painted brown to hide the leakage". The structural damage was enough that large brown streaks were visable on the outside of the tanks, but rather than decomission or even inspect the tanks, the solution was to paint the whole tank brown to hide the evidence of streaks. https://www.theguardian.com/australia-news/2021/aug/31/coalition-mps-want-more-school-chaplains-to-help-children-suffering-mentally-due-to-climate-activism

Dan Stefanich

Awesome! Explained so that a normal moron like me who knows jack-sh-t about CCS can understand.

Dave Sag

The final reveal made me laugh out loud. Brilliant work mate.

Inconcision

For some reason the Carbon Capture Caption Connotesa Certain Carbonated Cola Companies Corporate Crest.

MacheteGirlMagazine

Just brilliant. Hands you the Cupboard Capture Award for 2021. Will send this to all the XR folk and politicians in the Blue Mountains.

Raymond Martin

Brilliant precis of the LNP lame and stupid ignorance of global warming.

isekai elf mahiro-chan ~desuyone~

Channel is Illinois Energy Professor. An easy way to not have radiation... is to not be in the nuclear core. Or near coal...

isekai elf mahiro-chan ~desuyone~

From comments on their live lecture: > Years ago there was a detected increase in the radiation level near Huntsville AL where there is a nuclear power plant. It ended up originating from the ash pile from the coal-fired power plant up river.

Nikolaj de Fine Licht

Fantastic new add, congratulations 👍🏼😊 Don’t you risk trouble for using the Coca Cola like typeface?

Bladeless Knife Productions

Christ, it's worse than I realized. I hadn't heard about the 'use CO2 to flush out the oil' scheme before.

Kain De Luca

Brilliant as always guys, keep up the good work!

Alan Jones

Loved it, thank you Team Juice!

Kim Hillier

OMG. I can't believe I am having a misogyny moment over the c word. I'm a 100 c word per day kinda bloke and still struggle with the most wondrous body part on the planet being used in a derogatory manner. Give this government a Bjelke Award. See how many millenials know what a Bjelke award means.

Michael McGrath

One of the best yet! Carbon Capture has always been a Clayton's solution. On another topic, the Captcha test is so infuriating. To start with the images are so low res it's hard to pick out what they expect you to find, secondly the terms are so American that you have to be bilingual to figure out what they want to find.

Anthony Coulter

Another gold nugget! after a rough day not in the office that really hit the spot.

Edward Lander

Regulatory capture and government subsidy storage - genius! Well done guys! Another triumphant Honest Government Ad :-D

Jason

I know the video is awesome. (I love them all) but I just had a thought… Imagine if on the voting ballots the candidates had to list their highest qualification… Does the NSW Premier need more than a BA??? Every job I go for needs me to list the basics, why not make the lack of relevancy of the politicians actual background a thing in voting.., just a thought ;)

ess

Very well done, Juice Junkies. Possibly the info-heaviest production for a while but - like a Government staffer putting in a late shift at the Bullshit HQ desk - you really pulled it off

thejuicemedia

Agh I'm sorry Wendy - I hope you're all dry and safe?

thejuicemedia

Oh that's nice, I should have included it in the video!

thejuicemedia

Thanks ess! Yeah, there was a lot of info in this one - I am totally Photoshop graphed out after that!

thejuicemedia

As far as I'm aware the font isn't copyrighted. In any case the style I've used isn't the same as CocaCola's - the initial C is different :)

Mark D Larsen

One of the best ones yet! It's high time the bullshit shenanigans of the fossil fools were exposed for the unconscionable scam they are. Loved that you included the Canadian and American con jobs. Did Lucy nail those accents? The CCUNTS that the oil'igarchs are pushing is their latest ploy after decades of denial, distraction, and distortion. Now that we are all seeing the climate crisis right in from of our eyes, their new tactic is: "Yeah, okay, the crisis real, and humans are causing it, but… no worries! We've got this! You "addicts" just need to keep burning our "drug," pay us huge piles of taxpayer ching ching, and we'll use it capture those emissions… someday… we promise, trust us. Have we ever lied to you?" Oh, and I gotta say: love you in those glasses, Ellen! They suit you!

Alexander Kaasjager

Well done, I like the remarks about "clean Hydrogen" especially! However, green Hydrogen isn't really a viable thing at the moment - river/lake water is rare, while sea (salt) water would corrode the electrodes very quickly.

Dave Borlace

You are an absolute comic legend Giordano. Thank you to you and the brilliant team for yet another superb torpedoing of dumb government policy!

Dave Ostler

I've been railing against CCS for years. Another 'Solar Freakin' Roadways' scheme. Btw, Lucy's Canadian accent was adorable.

Ian Gardner

Another brilliant expose that shines the light on more bullshit from our climate non-action politicians......including those in here in Canada, eh!

David Baldwin

Honestly, if these get any funnier and diabolical I don’t know if I will be able to stand it. I think you reached a new level of what my college literature teacher would have called “Qualitative Progression”—the layering of meaning in a single narrative. Starting with the transmogrification of “capture” and “storage”, which I did not see coming and which is *hilarious*. You and your crack team are able to do so much now, and so adroitly, so cunningly, you have become a rapier wit deftly slicing the buttons off the trousers of government. If I was them I would be right nervous. Thank you!

MacheteGirlMagazine

All of the work and effort that goes into these, I just find myself appreciating you guys more.

Jarrod Mast

Dude I've watched this four times now and keep seeing more brilliance in it! Layers of cleverness 👏👏

Fox_in_Tartan

I can't say how much I LOVE this "ad"!! It's brilliant on so many levels! Please add the "dept of prolonging Fossil Fuel" slogan to your shop! Christmas isn't far away, and I'd love to give these as gifts! :D

Kai

In some ways the government is always going to be shovelling money to mates. But apparently its too hard to even pick the right mates. Like getting in on the action around rare earth minerals locally, on which renewable energy is sooo dependent atm.

thejuicemedia

Thanks Dave! That was actually Ellen doing the Canadian and US accents! We like to mix it up XD

thejuicemedia

wow thanks for this glowing review David, that's awesome to know! :)

Robert Bismuth

Brilliant as always! You left no stone un-turned or even un-touched in this one. Great explanation of why the so called "carbon credits" tech programs are, sadly, not working at all. Worse, they are actually rewarding failure and bad behavior. Thank you too for including the so-called hydrogen energy economy - which is a total farce (both the blue hydrogen, as you point out, but also the green hydrogen which, oh right, requires electricity to break down H2O and get the hydrogen in the first place ... more energy that it will ultimately return when burned with the O that it was split up from due to hysteresis in the system). One suggestion additional for you would be to look at the EV side of things at some future point: people rarely seem to ask two questions ... Where does the electricity for an EV to operate actually come from? And, of course, what exactly is the resources footprint of actually building an EV on an assembly line - the energy involved, but much more specifically, the resources and energy involved in making those lithium ion cells they need? Oh, and I guess you could ask the final question: what happens to the lithium ion cells when then are so over-recharged that they have to be replaced? As far as I can tell, people just seem to care that an EV doesn't burn fossil fuel in itself ... but ... that energy to accelerate so fast your organs get ripped from your body and then whizz around needlessly fast must come from somewhere. So we replace burning petrol with burning something in power plants (coal, oil, uranium, etc.) as there just isn't enough wind generation, hydro generation or solar generation (not to mention the resource footprint of manufacturing solar cells, keep them dust free and of course replacing them over time as they age out ...). Best solution - use less energy in the first place!

Robert Biggs

Argghh the genius!!! Thank you all so much. An option for consideration - the water trading market. The recently tabled, on a top shelf I think, ACCC report says that it's the most gamed market, a totally unregulated market in the world. Combine that with every other unregulated market receiving billions - aged care comes to mind

Peter M

Great stuff everyone, so good to help with all your work on HGA and the podcasts, the good Juice!

Semiosis 101

Keep making these videos, they're not just brilliant but also cathartic. I'm over here in Scotland and the we'll be hosting the COP26 soon, where the UK gov led by Liar-in-Chief Boris (social murderer) Johnson will host an event where hundreds of people will fly in to talk about climate change. Go figure! Any ambitions for a COP26 video?

thejuicemedia

Thanks Dave! Yes, we've been discussing a COP26 HGA - we'll see how we go in the next few weeks!

thejuicemedia

Thanks Robert! Good questions! I've never heard that there isn't enough potential renewable energy to power EVs on a global scale - I mean, perhaps not yet there isn't, but why is there a limit? I'm interested in this so if you have a source for that I'd be keen to learn about it. There's no doubt that there are other problems associated with EVs, like the ones you mention. It's not the perfect solution. But right now, given that transport is such a huge contributor to emissions, it seems like the next best step to take. There will have to be others after that no doubt!

Laurent Giroud

Great video! It has been really depressing to see technologists and journalists harp on the supposed benefits of carbon capture technology when the reality is that we are far from having proven it is economically viable. Also, lately It has been quite tiring to see many alarming threshold being crossed in terms of climate change while witnessing the persisting faith of many that some magic technological progress will save us all without us needing to adjust our behavior in the slightest. Obviously it can't be something we're doing which is causing all those emissions right? Must be solved by someone else. 🙄 At least now we can laugh about it watching your video guys, so thanks for that! ❤️
