Dear PatronsI hope this finds you all safe in these increasingly troubled times. Normally the Juice Media Podcast acts as a companion to out latest Honest Government Ad - which in this case was about the United Australia Party. But rather than spend more time on Clive Palmer's monumental bullshit, I want to turn my attention to more urgent matters.I was torn between dedicating this podcast to the situation in Ukraine - where we are seeing the most tragic and devastating events unfold - and the latest IPCC report, which came out last week. In the end I decided on the latter. Because the world is already focused on Ukraine - and rightly so. But very few people have noticed or even heard about the latest IPCC report. And unfortunately the climate crisis does not stop for wars, or pandemics. As you know by now, I'm a big believer in using the Juice Media to help amplify the voices of climate scientists. And that's why my guest today is not one, but two climate scientists: NASA scientist Peter Kalmus from California; and atmospheric scientist Ella Gilbert, from London. We talk about the IPCC's latest Working Group II Report and what we should be doing about it; the floods happening in Australia; and the psychological toll the climate crisis can have on all of us. I think Peter and Ella's comments at the end of their interviews will really help those who been experiencing anxiety and depression due to the climate crisis. So if you know of someone who might need it, please share it with them.Thank you, Patrons, for making the Juice Media Podcast possible. Because of your support I've been able to employ Ellen to edit the pod - which means we can get it out faster and I can get stuck into writing the next Honest Government Ad sooner.I'll catch you very soon with out next Honest Government Ad. Until then, take care of yourselves... and each other.Giordano

Great discussion as always Giordano. Just a point though, the links to Peter and Ella that you mention aren't in the YouTube description. Edit: Ahh - you fixed it - thanks :) Cheers, Pete

thejuicemedia

Thanks Pete! I added them a short while ago, are they still not showing up for you?

Peter Todd

It's all good, they weren't there when I first watched but came up after I did a refresh. Cheers!

it's great the way you try to keep everything fire and right is great I always have to send emails and texts to people to let them know about the post's and even people I don't think would like them love it and I'm always having to add people to my list of people to send it to. Keep up the great job

‘Breaking the social contract and should have their assets seized’, says Peter of the fossil fuel industry( and governments and media that support them). These institutions are in the process of consigning all life to oblivion and the Australian Government is a chief offender. Thank you Giordano for inviting charismatic and thoroughly informed Peter and Ella to this vitally important podcast. I shall share it widely.

Hi Giordano and Juice crew, been offline for a week up here in the hills out of Lismore and sometime in town. Seen a few floods here but there has been nothing like recent events across the northern rivers and Lismore in particular. The climate crisis is here and events pushed the Ukraine war from many people's minds. Most had no ph or net or power for a week as well It is going to take a while for people to get over events here, psychologically and physically Though probably almost universally pissed at govt inability to be prepared and proactive about what can happen with the climate changing, the outcome of denial is really this lack of resources and preparedness to act. Though locals and many volunteers have stepped up to fill that void big time it's not really the solution without greater support and resources for mitigation and adaptation So it is great to see this podcast, cheers and great to support all you do

I am SO glad you enjoy the pod and these great guests, Sandra :)

thejuicemedia

Thank you Peter - I can only imagine how insane it must feel up there atm, I hope you and yours are keeping safe?

Peter M

Thanks Giordano, we're relatively OK, out of town on a hill is mostly OK, roads were cut and a few houses lost to landslides, and people lost elsewhere, this has been a crazy event that has disrupted everyone's life and traumatised many As we all probably know, this is not the end of it, it is more likely a beginning The hardest for many was probably being cut off with no comms at all to the outside world, so it's good to be back checking your and others efforts as well Also looks like others copping it as well now, cheers all

I watched this podcast as soon as it appeared in YouTube. I really appreciate the frank, brutal honesty of both Ella and Peter. The latter especially called a spade, a spade, and I agree with everything he said and proposes. What the IPCC report primarily conveyed was "resilience" and "adaptation." In other words, we've been bamboozled for decades by the fossil fuel industry and our illustrious bought-and-paid-for "leaders," and now… time has run out. I have tried to do everything I can to change my lifestyle, spending what few pennies I could gather on solar panels, battery backup, electric bikes, recycling, LED lighting, an EV, but… it only removes a drop from the bucket, while all over the world people are filling that bucket with a fire hose. They say the best predictor of future behavior is past behavior, and the pattern now established is excrutiatingly clear: earthlings are far too "addicted" to the petrolpushers' "drug" at this point. We're in the handbasket now, and it's picking up speed. Yes, I know that I sound like a pessimist, but I'm just being a realist —like the scientists who compiled and wrote the IPCC report. It's… heartbreaking. 💔

People in the developed world have lived the high life for decades and now those in the developing world want this as well. We get the politicians we deserve,e.g Boris Johnson in the UK, who are only interested in soundbites and capitalism to keep their backers happy. Whilst the entire global economy is geared to rampant consumerism, which means producing STUFF for people to buy, there can be no hope. The crux of the problem is that there are way too many people living on this planet and they often live on the coasts and floodplains, which have flooded for aeons. RIP Mother Earth.

thejuicemedia

So glad to hear you're OK Peter. So crazy. Watch out for Scott's handshakes now, apparently he's coming to town

Tom

Great discussion, as far as Peter's comment about the school of fish changing direction, the direction of the fish is controlled by our media, this is clearly demonstrated by our justified righteous indignation of the invasion of Ukraine but giving zero fucks for the 8 years of violence in Donbas, zero fucks about the never ending genocide in Palestine, zero fucks about the largest humanitarian crisis on the planet in Yemen and so many injustices on the planet. Some one else controls the the narrative and if you are successful in taking control then you will get Assanged.

Barry

Client change is bull shit the people you are talking to work for companies that get paid to find the climate the result desired

Barry

we need to go back to the beginning and start the research again
