Honest Government Ad | Carbon Credits & Offsets (Patreon)

Dear PatronsHere's the latest Honest Government Ad you've helped us to produce! As you've probably heard by now, Scott Morrison has announced the election for May 21st.Hopefully, it will spell the end of this government. It's hard to imagine how it can be re-elected after the endless litany of lies, scandals, rorts, and derelictions of duty. But then again, many of us also felt that way in 2019. So let's not take our eye off the ball.Either way, this HGA will be the final installment in our climate shitfuckery series for Season 2 of the Honest Government Ads (which will conclude with the coming election). Thanks to you, we've covered the key pillars of this government's climate policiy: their Kyoto carryover credits, EVs (FFS), Carbon Capture & Storage, conflicts of interest at GISERA/CSIRO, Hydrogen, COP26, Net Zero by 2050 and more...With millions of views between them, these HGAs have helped people better understand the ways in which this government has not only failed to address the climate crisis, but also rorted public funds to benefit their mates (donors) in the gas industry. And in many cases, these HGAs have also applied to other governments too.Sure enough climate shitfuckery will continue - if not here, certainly around the world - so fear not: with your support, we'll continue making HGAs about climate and energy policy. And of course, we do have more Honest Government Ad action coming up before the election. So stay tuned for our Season 2 finale. Before I sign off, I wanted to say a word about why I chose this topic so close to the election. The thing is, regardless of who wins, carbon credits and offsets are going to be crucial for the decade to come. Right now, both major parties (and many world governments) are leaning heavily on carbon credits to achieve their net zero targets. But we all know carbon credits are not the answer to the climate crisis: stopping burning fossil fuels is.However, we do also need to offset some emissions on the way to eliminating all emissions (in hard to abate sectors). And that is why we can't just bin them: we actually need a carbon credit scheme with integrity which we can trust during the transition. (But they must be Offsets, not Fuckoffsets!)Unfortunately most people don't understand how carbon credits and offsets work, let alone the way they're being rorted. And that is why I've dedicated this HGA to this topic on the eve of the election.Well, that's enough from me for now. I'll be back shortly with the podcast companion for this HGA.Until then, take careGiordanoVideo links:Youtube videoTwitter videoFacebook video
