Completely serious, it's because of the patriarchal value of women being virgins. Women had to be pure and chaste, and you had the whole importance of the hymen thing. Because the *only* value of what makes a good/pure women rests on the vagina, they could make an argument that butt sex was ok because only *real* sex - the one that was of value to men and society - mattered. Gay sex counted as sex because there wasn't another hole, but historically the "receiver* was seen as weak and woman-like, while the penetrator's manhood was safe. Yeah, butt sex has a much more complicated past than you'd guess.
