But do we know how genuine this is? Sarah has shown that she can now fake a convincing smile while determinedly making positive noises about everything, but we still don’t know whether her internal stress level is actually rising or falling.

Remember that Sarah only recently told Joyce that Joe had been faking drinking at the party. She did so in a neutral rather than a hostile tone, but she may still be cautious.

"Caring enough to fake it is still a form of caring!" I think it's getting more and more real the more she does it. Some people were worried she'd snap and lash back, but I think that's more of a romcom trope. I'm more likely to think this is often how people really do change.
