Sure Jan

Sajuuk-Khar

once is an accident two times is enemy action

Andrea Andrew

Joyce is kinda lacking in genre savviness.

Ali Youngman

Willis, you scheduled the release for 12 pm again! (Not that I’m complaining, especially given the content!!)

Rob McBobson

It's happening... IT'S HAPPENING

Caleb Hill

You know what blindsided means right Joyce?

Giant Speck

Sarah rips off her mask to reveal that she's been Jocelyne the whole time!

Rob McBobson

quiet quiet QUIET, don't RUIN a GOOD THING

Andrea Andrew

I’m reminded of coming out to my brother, who still misgenders me. I hope Joyce will be better than my brother.

Elizabeth

I know she doesn’t know yet and it’s unintentional on her part but ooof the unawares misgendering is thick and hard to read for me ><

Kelly (they-them)

I'd forgotten Jocelyn's birth/dead name!!! I thought she was talking about her stupid oldest brother. I was like, "Ugh, who wants to see THAT asshole?"

Ali Youngman

Yeah. I posted that BEFORE reading the actual strip. I’m glad we got this early. (Although knowing Willis, right before Jocelyne appears we’ll jump to Ethan or Jennifer for like two weeks)

Rob McBobson

I'm sorry for you, and I hope he quits it someday.

Rob McBobson

I was gonna diss Joyce for her euphemism, but then I figured that as long as it's not "conscious decoupling," it's okay.

Kelly (they-them)

Someone remind me if I have Joyce's siblings' names and birth order correct John, the oldest by quite a bit. Works in a church. Asshole. Jocelyne, second oldest. Probably like, 5 years older than Joyce? Writer. Apparently in the process of coming out to her family as a woman. Jordan, second youngest. Estranged. Joyce, youngest, just touched her first penis

Andrea Andrew

It seems Joyce’s father has accepted Jocelyn. That’s good to hear.

Ali Youngman

That’s the point. It’s being laid on thick to highlight Joyce’s lack of awareness. Notice how gendered words like “Joshua” and “drama king” are in bold, followed by “already know” and “this time” in the last panel. It’s supposed to be ironic, (However, I’m a cis woman so I don’t really have a true frame of reference for how misgendering can be triggering, so I don’t mean to detract from your personal experiences.)

Harrison Fuller

Okay, I really like the implied offscreen character development of Joyce’s Dad if Jocelyn was able to confidently come out to him

Richard

I hope that's true, but the fact that Jocelyne is worried that their Dad would tell Joyce about it first makes me a little concerned.

Packy Anderson

You don't have to be trans to be misgendered. I'm a cis male, and the really oogie feeling I get when someone thinks I'm female is why I grow the incredibly patchy and piss-poor beard I wear: it's one of the only things I can do to stop the misgendering, and it only happens every few months. Just imagine how you'd feel if someone thought you were a man. Imagine it happening all the time.

Jey Siksa

Joyce i love you with all my heart, you are not in the business of knowing what it is this time.

John Madigan

I'll admit I don't remember the storyline about Jocelyn. Anyone have a link?

Diane

JOCELYNE MENTION! SHE'S COMING! But WHERE IS SHE?! Is she on the road, 5 minutes away, cause we know she lives near her childhood home, which is a 4 hour drive. I just need her here before the afternoon.

Harold

@Jey Siksa: Yes, she does! She knows that she has a trans sister! And that sister's name is Carla!

Harold

@Harrison Fuller: Well, we don't know *that* yet. It's possible that Jocelyne may be referring to the news that Carol sold the family home. Jocelyne may not know that Carol dropped in on Joyce to deliver that news personally.

Jey Siksa

Joyce @ Carla ✊👱‍♀️

Harold

@Kelly (they-them): Don't forget that John is married, to a woman that (if I'm remembering correctly) the rest of the family hadn't met yet when it was mentioned during Joyce and Becky's homecoming visit. And Joyce did a heck of a lot more than touch it. Unless touching was all it took. Which is very possible.

Harold

@Andrea Andrew: I hope that's true, but - copy/pasting a reply I left on a similar comment further down - we don't know *that* yet. It's possible that Jocelyne may be referring to the news that Carol sold the family home. Jocelyne may not know that Carol dropped in on Joyce to deliver that news personally.

Rob McBobson

This webcomic's got more trans sisters than a radio factory.

Jey Siksa

@Rob McBobson I will gather as many people I can to give a standing ovation for that amazing pun. 🙌👏🙌🙏👏🙏🙌👏🙏🙌👏🤲🙌👏🙌🤲🙏👏🙌👏🙌🙌👏👐🙏🙌👏

C

Well, this is exciting. Joyce is certainly in for a big surprise...and a big realization about what Ethan met.

Jeremy AR

Joyce just can't stop daring the narrative to kick her ass.

David M Willis

i put this one up early on purpose this time, i was feeling very impatient

Caitacular

I just finally came out to my family after 4 years yesterday, so this is gonna be a fun parallel storyline to my life lol. Appreciate the early posting!

AE Gonzalez

Joe spent three comics talking about the existential effect this one handjob had on him. Joyce is already moved on to complaining about one of her siblings.

Justin Seifert

We know you have itching for us to see this shoe drop and just can't wait for us to enjoy it.

Bronxden

Oh snap are they about to come out as trans?!

Populuxe

“I need to tell you before you hear it from dad” doesn’t necessarily mean she’s told their dad. Only that she intends to. If she had come out to their dad already, then you would expect him to call or text Joyce pretty much immediately. That Jocelyn is coming to see Joyce in person suggests she wants Joyce to know before she comes out to the rest of the family.

Bagge

Un-wed

Harold

For Joyce, it was... nah, I can't keep making the same joke

Harold

Besides, I refuse to believe that what happened last night wasn't a Very Big Deal for her and that she's still processing it.

Harold

@Andrea Andrew: Not to mention gender savviness.

Simon Magid

I think it more likely that she is kind of suppressing it and focusing on less important stuff until she feels able to -- omg, I am really sorry, this one is unintentional, I swear -- handle it

Minzoku Bokumetsu

OH no, last time she pretended to know what a word meant, she ended up having to Google some kind of SPARKLY RUBBER MAN-DANGLE ON A BELT.

GPanda

Pulls up my lawn chair and pop corn:

Harold

@Simon Magid: She doesn't quite have a firm grasp on it yet

SkittleE

[Patrick voice] Firmly grasp it in your hand

IAmDeltaS

Oooooh it's finally happening! *(brings out popcorn)*

Andrea Andrew

Getting it early sometimes would be an awesome schedule change.

Albi

oooooooooooooooooh shiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiit

Moon Goat

I know the feeling. Gotta get that DOPAMINE.

Sajuuk-Khar

IT’S ME JOYCE IT’S ME JOYCE IT WAS ME ALLLLLL ALONG, JOYCE

Sajuuk-Khar

Remember what Ethan told you, Joyce: Dinobot is a Predacon ruled by his sense of honor. He lives to die gloriously in battle. When he aided Megatron in the theft of the Golden Disk, Dinobot believed he was in the pursuit of endless glory. But when he and his Predacon peers crashed on what seemed to be the wrong planet alongside a Maximal exploration vessel, he rebelled against Megatron and joined the Maximal team. It would be an uneasy alliance, fraught with turns of loyalty and turns of Shakespearean phrase—

Minzoku Bokumetsu

to be fair, Joe and Danny have no particular distractions, Joyce just got a relevant text bomb

Kelly (they-them)

The only offside to an extra early update is that now that's it's the usual time by body is itching for some more DoA. Maybe I'll finally shell out for the other patreon

Kelly (they-them)

I was drinking water when I read this and nearly snorted it everywhere

Gale Tazzin

I remember Jocelyne called Joyce when she was mad at Becky, I wonder if this conversation would've gone better then or now

Lisa

Congratulations! And best wishes!

Shane Wegner

She might as well scream “No one can stop my cunning scheme now! I’m INVINCIB-”

Elizabeth Story

my guess is Jocelyne is coming to tell Joyce their mom dumped their dog and in the process will come out accidentally in a humorous fashion

Onyx

I guess I'm an outlier, or just seen to much, because my thoughts went immediately to Jocelyne being outed, and their mother and brother and the church and possible Hank are after her. Just because Hank is doing "better," does /not/ mean that he is accepting of trans people, and very conceivably he could be part of the problem, and therefore Jocelyne wants to get to Joyce before their dad can. I'm hoping it is about the lighter divorce, or about the dog, and not worst case scenario.

T Campbell

Hard to conceive of Hank having an issue that'd turn him into a Ross. I mean, I think this is probably a pretty good guide to how he'd likely handle it at first: https://www.dumbingofage.com/2016/comic/book-6/02-that-perfect-girl/humility/ He might not be the perfect little model of acceptance that the guidebooks on the subject would prefer, but I'd be really surprised if he wasn't at least doing OKAY and coming from an obvious place of love, especially since Carol's not part of the equation now.

Terra Bruder

I am really excited about the arc, and a little sad about the missed opportunity to bring trans folks some much-needed humanity before this xitxow of an election.

Ali Youngman

I had this same problem yesterday! We still have over 12 hours to go before the new update and I’m dying!

Ali Youngman

I have a vague memory of this storyline, but remind me what the actual word was again?

Onyx

Oh, I didn't mean like Ross, Ross is an outlier in that sense. When I say coming for someone who comes out, it is usually like pushing religion, conversion, guilt and crying and emotional abuse. So many ways to fuck up queer kids without touching them. (And I'm not taking that strip as how Hank will react at first. Might come around after a while, he *might* try to be ok, but we'll see.) I did forget that In comic Ross is an example of the extreme, so I don't see that happening, even with Carol.
