Kazo

I mean, thesis proven, Boost.

Andrew

*smokebomb*

HenryVolt

Wait did that hallway always have vents...wait was Willis always able to post Gifs in his Patreon comment section!?

Alexis Smith

Come on booster, follow her!

Grimeagle

You weren't wrong. But you're probably still surprised by the method.

HenryVolt

Amber: Good idea, piece!

Morgan Byrd

God they are such a bitch lmao

Harold

@HenryVolt: The vents were installed after Booster moved into the dorm, because it was inevitable that people might want to get away from them quickly

David M Willis

I think of it as a tiled ceiling, and I just... never draw the tiles, I guess. The rest of the tiled ceiling PROBABLY couldn't support a human's weight, but it's funny so I don't care.

David M Willis

And I... don't think I've tried a GIF in the description area before, though I know I've uploaded them as principle images over in the, uh, Other Patreon.

Dan Rabin

Please keep on not caring. — Rule of Funny Society, World Wide Web Chapter.

Harold

@David M Willis: Given your last sentence, it would also be funny if Amber immediately plummeted back down to the floor in a cloud of dust and debris. "I- I don't really know why I thought that would work."

Smoochie

I don’t think we’re getting the harem, the orgy, or the polycule guys.

David M Willis

like angela's cat in the fire drill episode of the office *nods sagely*

Harold

Typhoon, we *are* interested, but now is not the time

Grace Serenity

Booster, that is not how you therapy, my they. You can't just open with the WMD!

Albi

Well then.

wyatt

all timer

Alexandra Falk

I disagree with some of the comments here. Sometimes something you do may appear to be congruent with a pattern like this, but sometimes it's just because people do things.

Beck Chonigman

Well not with that attitude we're not.

Verteiron

Those tiles drop crumbs everywhere, and if Booster was actually looking up at someone disappearing into them, they'd be blinded by a shower of papery dust.

Dan Rabin

Re: GIF. FYI, I thought it was an ad, and skipped it. Other readers of course may respond differently.

Sajuuk-Khar

I mean I don’t think this blights the future of the JJD polycule but it sure casts a long shadow over Amber and Walky’s anything

Sajuuk-Khar

Something something Among Us reference something

Daniel

I really dislike Booster. They're just such an asshole most of the time.

Mohmi

Booster rocks. Using therapy for evil a la Hannibal. Rocking whore-core fits. I love them.

Maude Reads Things

Yeaaaahhhhhh, I feel like you might've won the battle but lost the war here

5099 5618 v2.0

Y'know, this degree of unethical meddling does not bode well for their career prospects. For real, you are causing actual, likely lasting damage.

5099 5618 v2.0

I get it. Everyone's a trash fire at this age. But still. Just looks like cruelty, at this point. I mean, was this supposed to help Amber?

5099 5618 v2.0

Nevermind if you have a mind to figure things like this out, you should also have some idea of what you want to *do* about it beyond just trying to prove yourself right and (re?)affirm your position as smartest person in the room, especially if the only other person in the room is the person you're accusing/analyzing/traumatizing. For real, tho: *was this supposed to help Amber*? And if not, *why do this*?

5099 5618 v2.0

That's all I got. Thank you for your patience. *Bow *Bamf

Kyle

The women's world record for standing high jump is shy of five feet, and I think Amber just shattered it. People keep talking about Booster as a failed therapist, when in reality, they are the world's most successful athletic trainer.

Luin

ppl hate booster but that was so me when i was 18. loved diagnosing a guy i just met with a limited but seemingly sufficient framework of humanity. everyone loves an autistic mfer until they b acting REALLY autistic

VengeanceKnight

…No. What Booster’s doing here is objectively horrible and unheeding for anyone’s health or well-being, which is what they should want to promote in theory if they become a psychologist/therapist. Also, “autistic” does not mean “sociopathic” or “willing to play other people like a mildly interesting visual novel.”

Luin

ur right. the way booster is going abt it is hella low empathy and unkind, but the idea of gamifying social interactions n relations is like... somewhat common for autistic ppl in my experience. also i think i said the last bit in half jest, which ur reinforcing: not all neurodivergent behavior is attractive or even what we'd consider acceptable. sometimes its messy, but its nevertheless part of the human experience. removing it to some abstract "sociopathy" is an unnecessary othering i think. esp when really it seems more like immaturity, that, imo, is not totally surprising for an 18 yr old autist. this js all to say i love this story because of the ways in which theyre fucked up in realistic ways, and booster explores a vector of that, i think.

VengeanceKnight

Well, not knowing how to make jokes sound like jokes instead of fucked-up things to say is also very autistic in my experience, so I suppose I’ll let that slide.

Girlycore

Booster uses They/Them pronouns.

Girlycore

Yep! Bunch of people expecting Booster to act like a fully grown and faultless licensed therapist instead of an 18yo who grew up feeling othered and different and watching over Charlie to protect her so not rly learning how to socialize so much as people-watch.

Melenynder

@VengeanceKnight I agree with you. Booster is like a younger House, except House was trying to help people, kinda, by getting them to be honest with themselves? Booster seems to just be doing it for chaos's sake

Uniquitous

There was a Mike-shaped hole in the universe. If anything Booster is too good a fit.

Preventer Wind

Can somebody give me the example of Booster using their powers for ‘good’ and no just chaos or actively harmful? Because I need someone to change my mind that they aren’t chaotic evil or fey levels of chaotic neutral.

Phil_M

If Booster understood Amber as well as they think they do, they’d have noticed her poorly managed capacity for physical violence. Amber would in no way shape or form have been justified in punching Booster in the face, but it wouldn’t have been terribly surprising if she had. I’m surprised that they haven’t pushed someone too far that way already, if they haven’t. And I’d wonder if their room move was occasioned less by misuse of pronouns than by threats of murder.

Phil_M

(Come to think of it, maybe Paul was even more deeply misguided than we thought in believing that they could become Amazi-Girl’s super-nemesis. A Batman style of hero requires a Joker style of nemesis…)

Phil_M

House didn’t usually care about people’s minds either way, beyond regarding them as mostly tiresomely predictable. He was just interested in their physical medical problems. If he occasionally made a case for them to behave in a certain way, it was either because he actually liked them or on the way to proving himself right and forcing everyone else to put up with him — because if he cured people, they had to tolerate him.

Taffy

How is Booster the one causing damage here, when Amber is the one dismantling the ceiling?

Taffy

I can't believe the comic with late-teen dumbasses is going to show me a dumbass in their late teens. This is unprecedented

5099 5618 v2.0

It's a dorm. The ceiling was already damaged beyond repair before she got there.

Daniel

But I actually liked Mike. Probably inherited feelings from Shortpacked! I guess.

Ph

I wish someone would give Booster their own diagnosis for once.

Phil_M

All we know about Booster’s room move is that their previous roommate didn’t respect Booster’s choice of name. That hints strongly at transphobia, but leaves the details unsaid. Given that we only have Booster’s word for even that much, and Booster has shown ever more capacity to be just plain annoying, who knows what actually went down?

Phil_M

(Answer: Willis, of course. Probably.)

Phil_M

I gather that the trick to moving around in a tiled ceiling space is to put your weight on the support bars (which can usually take it) rather than the tiles (which can’t). Not really something to attempt at speed, but Amber is obviously operating under superhero rules here.

Phil_M

Booster has admitted to minor flaws from time to time, but is clearly the classic type of asshole smartass who knows that they’re an asshole, but doesn’t care, because they also know about the “smart” part of smartass. So it wouldn’t do any good.

Seth Aaron Hershman has they/she pronouns

amber did give booster her own diagnosis! and they agreed with it and promised to back off! a promise they are breaking in half right now, like they're a stupid teenager or something

Seth Aaron Hershman has they/she pronouns

what "details" would make it okay for their roommate to not respect their name why does booster being annoying mean they are lying about their experience

Harold

@Seth Aaron Hershman: THANK YOU. Not sure why PM is doubling down on this, although at this point I'm almost expecting the next move to be the old reliable "What does it matter what happens to them, they're a FICTIONAL CHARACTER"

Phil_M

Mainly, I'm noting that Booster is currently being written as so annoying that I could believe almost anything bad about them. It's actually slightly odd, given that Booster has at times been written as fairly benevolent. (Well, they helped Ethan and *tried* to encourage Sarah to be more cheerful. I'm having difficulty finding strips where they deliberately do much else that's helpful, but I may well have missed some.) The effect of their last two appearances - pestering Sarah in the coffee shop and now triggering Amber - begins to look like Flanderization.

David M Willis

"booster was probably lying about the room move being motivated by misgendering and it was probably justified, actually, because i personally find them annoying" is... a thing you have typed into my patreon

Phil_M

Uh, no it isn't...

David M Willis

I would use not the words you have so far used, then! Different, other words, maybe! Stuff *not* like "I’d wonder if their room move was occasioned less by misuse of pronouns than by threats of murder." <-words not like those

Phil_M

I could argue wording all night, but there comes a point where I prefer to walk away. So - Bye.

David M Willis

"Given that we only have Booster’s word for even that much, and Booster has shown ever more capacity to be just plain annoying, who knows what actually went down?" <- no no no i want to argue wording some more come back

David M Willis

narrator: he did not, in fact, come back, and instead ended his own patreon membership

Jesse

I’d climb into the ceiling to avoid this douche too.

Kyle

Whoops. Thanks for the reminder.

Girlycore

Wow. Well, that's certainly one of the options on the spectrum of "sticking to your stupid, phobic opinions" and "running away with tail firmly tucked".

Girlycore

No probs, thanks for editing to reflect!

Kelly (they-them)

You know, trash doesn't usually take itself out but it's always a delight when it happens

Private me

booster would make a horrible therapist they seem to lack empathy and view people like toys for them to play with reminds me of the adventure time episode all the little people.

Sajuuk-Khar

Honestly like, I think this is more a self-own on Booster’s part than anything lmao??? Like, they like Amber and they want to be around her and the way they show that is through This Bullshit, and it backfires on them every time because they’re Dumbing of Age
