Harrison Fuller

I love Joe’s little smile in the final panel.

Andrea Andrew

It’s good to try new things, Joyce.

Taffy

This is cute. I enjoy this greatly. Perhaps the winter will not be so harsh this year.

Harold

@Andrea Andrew: Hint, hint [wink]

Harold

Yay, they're bonding!

Harold

@Harrison Fuller: Joyce's too. "Well, this is what you signed on for!" "I know."

C

...I'm not THAT picky...but I do have days where I just want the stuff I like, lol.

PaperRabbits

Okay but Joe smiling at the realization is very cute, to me. [desperately clinging to joe/joyce knowing it's only a matter of time before willis rips it from my hands]

Packy Anderson

Good God, it's my wife when she was still in college, before she decided she needed to eat healthy. (she agrees with my assessment) (or, at least, she smiled and snrked when I told her that)

Packy Anderson

(bookmark) Already? I thought bookmarks were of past strips!

Andrea Andrew

Softserved? Like when a woman gives you soft serve?

David M Willis

sometimes i like to flex and do nonspoilery future ones

Packy Anderson

Damn. I hope those 12 know how lucky they are!

Luin

surprised the brioche is one of the "too flavorful" elements of a chicken sandwich imo a misread on jennifers part

Shane Wegner

There’s definitely some kind of autism spectrum/gut+food preferences connection.

Jey Siksa

Oh my goodness, is Joyce's Sainthood gunna pull Billie out of Jennifer

Dan Rabin

...what's the opposite of "caliente"?

Kelly (they-them)

So disappointed I'm not one of the like 12 who has this as a bookmark

Kelly (they-them)

Sometimes it's good to try things that have been there all along

Kelly (they-them)

Joyce is soon horrified to discover she got spicy vanilla soft serve

Crunchos cereal

Now I'm kind of commenting on the comic on a more general level. In the sixth (ever) DoA strip Becky leaves with Joyce's parents and tells her 'Just don't let anyone change you, okay?'. In the background are Dorothy and Danny. Dorothy seems to be thinking about breaking up with him, Danny is explaining something with a smile on his face. Anyway, this seems either very long-term planning or just the comic artist hedging their bets. I find it hilarious with the current events in the comic, still. https://www.dumbingofage.com/2010/comic/book-1/01-move-in-day/forget/ is the comic.

Look. She's not gonna be able to eat like this in 12 or so years so she's gotta get it all in now when her metabolism is at its peak.

Girlycore

I'm going to reply to this cautiously, with a hopeful understanding that I'm not aiming all this criticism at you. Just at the general Feel-Bad Machine at the heart of society aimed at women: * Your metabolism does not slow dramatically until you are in your 60s. Daily activity levels have the most impact on how easily you can burn stored calories, and calories-in-vs-calories-out is the only measure of what your body is using vs what it stores for later. * Even if it did, there is nothing wrong with putting on a bit of extra weight as long as you remain happy and healthy (happy as determined by you the individual, healthy as determined by you and your doctor, not by the internet or friends/partners). The obsession with being skinny, or with punishing women and women punishing themselves for not being "skinny enough" to the point of denying themselves food they love is just... fucked. It creates eating disorders in women who literally kill themselves trying to be "skinny". * Autistic people often continue to "be able to eat this way" because we have no other choice. This isn't pickiness or childishness that can be put away, it is a real aversion to certain things that is difficult or impossible to overcome without emotional turmoil. I am sure you didn't intend it like this, but it still wasn't great to read. Again, none of this is aimed directly at you, though I acknowledge it might feel that way. I hope you have a nice day and eat something you love that makes you happy.

David M Willis

The other side of the bookmark is a strip from June!

David M Willis

if you buy something in the store now, you'd get one! *shameless pitch*

advantages to just a chicken patty: 1) you don't get all the way back to your table before you can check it visually for unwanted toppings 2) look why would you want to smother delicious chicken in probably tasteless bread anyway, what are we doing here 2a) turns out that's what the toppings are for? making the bread taste better? and without that, eh, just give me the chicken patty 3) look i dunno, chicken just doesn't seem right on bread like other meats, don't ask me why, it just is

Ronokki

I really like the way that Jennifer is participating in this. Her tone and face don't seem to be judgy and instead it seems just kind of playfully jabby towards a real friend.

I gotcha. I'm applying my experience as a fat, autistic person to this. It's not about the weight, it's about your body actively feeling bad with/without certain foods as you get older. Like, I used to be able to eat an entire bag-full of chocolate in a single day and was never able to stop at just a few. These days I'm fine with just a few or even just one. I'm still a picky eater in comparison to my family, but I've expanded my tastes ever so slightly over time at my own pace, in my own time. If I neglect to balance my diet with vegetables and fruits and such, or physical activity (which I'm only now actually doing any), my body feels the effects faster. This is fully 100% projection of me now, about to be 32, talking to my younger, 18 y/o self.
