Here's a version of the Dorothy Comes To Class Late strip where I tried to... have an off-panel Robin and Jason continue the lecture, such as it is, while Dorothy and Joyce exchange glances? And it didn't work, at all. Dorothy doesn't even get to enter the room!

So I started over, gave Robin some actual presence, got Dorothy actually inside the classroom, ditched Jason entirely, and then focused on Dorothy and Joyce without the off-panel distractions.

seriously why was dorothy just standing in the doorframe, what was that

Dorothy was just standing there because it was clearly a setup to get her framed

also this one is way less horny and that couldn’t stand

Also, the addition of Robin's "Did you... did you *die*?" is inspired, and perfect for both Robin *and* Dorothy.

love that both the scrapped and final versions of this strip have their little nods at the Military Industrial Complex. great seeding for what will presumably be a very normal time in the coming chapters!!

The fact that Dorothy was late to class meant that she couldn't converse out loud with Joyce, and that constraint made you draw those amazing panels of the glances. You got a *lot* out of this revision!

This one is funny but the posted one is more meaningful

Still not 100% sure I’m parsing Joyce’s final expression correctly, but it’s giving me “uh-oh” feelings

I see what you're saying with the problems you mention on the original strip, but I think the double meaning of Robin's speech bubble over Joyce in the last panel was very good.

Still love the "Your new boss" line on the blackboard.

I agree. I like the tardiness exchange with Jason, but "did you *die*?" is even better.
