Wait... is Joyce more genre-savvy than I was giving her credit for?

Sajuuk-Khar

Dotty, we’ve seen Slipshines, you’d need a whole contraption to come in there

el

damn the jug shoes are more like jug platforms now

Andrea Andrew

OMG come on!!! 🤣 Not literally. Maybe.

Baqly

you cant keep doing this to me man

Andrea Andrew

Technically, they got a room already.

Ria

The thing that's making this tension so electric is the fact that Joyce is actually remarkably intuitive in certain key moments – I feel like there's just absolutely no way she's not starting to put 2 and 2 2gether

Harold

@Ria Mayer: Doesn't Joyce's face in panel 6 say it all? Those eyebrows! She isn't just playfully teasing Dorothy over her choice of words - she's fucking *mulling it over*.

Harold

Joyce's jugs contain multitudes

Harold

I'll see your bow-chicka, and raise you a wow-wow

Andrea Andrew

But she has to come out of the closet eventually.

C

That look from Joyce...she has to have SOME idea at this point. Oh Dorothy...

Mariah

We are gal paling so close to the sun.

Dan Rabin

So "down there" is now "up there"? Or is this a special usage of "up there" that is only used relative to a previously-anchored "down there" reference? Is the context of the impending shower sufficient to establish the "down there" anchor? Does the context of underarm odor provoking the shower shade the semantics of "up there"? Or should it be "up theres", there being two armpits. Or is the correct usage "ups there"? Presentation note: I often read the borderless panels as selecting a character as the subject of a strip, but in this strip I just see an accentuation of the alternation of speakers.

Rainfall

The "up there" bit implied soap would be going inside, which is why Dorothy got stringent. MUCH worse inside.

David M Willis

to be honest sometimes i just alternate borders and borderless in order to fit in more panels

Giant Speck

This interaction reminds me so much of the interactions between Becky and Joyce just before Joyce admitted she was no longer a Christian. Becky would give off these vibes that she was at least somewhat aware that something was happening and seemed to gently goad Joyce into telling the truth.

Dan Rabin

Yes, I know—I'm just having fun.

5099 5618 v2.0

Ok, there it is. This is trolling, at least in part.

Maude Reads Things

XD Sure, Joyce. And uh, no, no soap up there, Joyce.

Sajuuk-Khar

I’m not sure Joyce is trolling Dorothy but she’s absolutely trolling us

Taffy

Damn, I've been washing all wrong.

Inquiring Raven

Either Joyce figured it out on her own, or has been clued in by Joe. This is intentional trolling at this point.

George Simpson

She *has* read some of Amber's work. You know, for its literary merit.

Bronxden

So uh…when we getting that spicy pic lol

Shane Wegner

I feel a certain amount of pathos for Joyce’s upbringing. Poor job, Joyce’s parents, that she doesn’t even know basic pre-sex self hygiene. I can imagine various parents lobbying the school to limit the sex ed, or Joyce’s mom just demanding she not go. Or maybe Joyce got all that and really is just trolling Dotty at this point.

Jesse

I just did the most cartoonishly juvenile laugh.

Railway Series Book Club

Dorothy wishes she could come in there. But if they got together, Joyce would definitely be the one coming in there.

Onyx

My first reaction to this strip had nothing to do with the whole Dorothy/Joyce thing, and everything similar to Dorothy's, Do NOT put soap up in there! That it how you get infections and shit! And rawness, and sores, and then don't even THINK about smexy times!

Siberian Rabbit

Honestly I'm still not convinced that if Joyce and Dorothy had sex (or started dating, even!) that either Joe or Walky would care that much about it, we are just putting Dorothy through the wringer for the joy of it at this point and I for one approve. 99% of times people are like "JUST BE POLY" as a solution to love triangles (love squares?) they are just coping, but this is the 1 in 100 case where I cannot see it not working, provided Dorothy gets over herself.

Harold

LITERATURE!

dorothy keener's left doinker

does that final joyce expression give anyone else joe vibes? it specifically reminded me of the final panel of dumbingofage.com/nuts

Andrea Andrew

Joyce seems like she’ll be the dominant one in the relationship.

Giant Speck

Right, so it’s probably not happening here.

TobyTura

I really cannot fathom a universe where dorothy would willing enter a poly relationship that contains joe lmao

Bagge

See, this is important information

Andrea Andrew

Imagine if either of these bisexual women were single right now and not dating two guys, one of whom is worthless and oblivious, and the other is nice but ultimately seemingly a placeholder. This would be way more romantic. All this to say I want them to get together, but have to wonder how far this goes, and I wonder if Joe would be okay with this.

Harold

@Andrea Andrew: Reminder that Joe is the one who advised Dorothy to confront her true feelings about Joyce in the first place. Although I doubt he could have envisioned this particular scenario. (Also, I personally wouldn't call Walky "worthless," but YMMV.)

Rainfall

Jeeeeez, Andrea. You know other people in this comment section like both those ships, right? It's stuff like this that makes me want to respond to your Joyce/Dorothy comments with YoureNotAffiliatedWithMe.gif

Joey245

Only one problem with joining the Patreon to see tomorrow's strip early - now I need to wait to see the strip for the day after tomorrow D: Talk about kicking the can down the road, eh?

Biblioholic1993

If you wouldn't DRINK that kinda soap then don't put it up there!!!

David M Willis

introducing dollar increments for every additional day of buffer you get to see early who's up for dropping $377

Tim Starliper

No Joe vibes per se, but she does seem to be happy with the thought of Dorothy joining her in the shower, perhaps to help 'up there'.....and Dorothy is certainly thinking of the possibilities of joining Joyce in the shower, judging by her face in the last panel.

5099 5618 v2.0

Respectfully, please keep in mind that "power bottoms" are a Thing.

Railway Series Book Club

i keep Power Bottoms in my mind all the time, every day. that said i don't believe Dorothy would be Joyce's power bottom, just the standard model of bottom

Leon

To comment on this from a different perspective, it is interesting how Joe was originally thinking about "bowing out" to Dorothy in the original 2023 version of the confrontation before it got pushed back to develop things further. As if Dorothy was a viable romantic option for Joyce. This is a bit meta, but obviously Dorothy could be perceived as a viable option regardless of Willis' revelation of these unused strips (Sarah herself, though she isn't infallible, says it when trying to break up Joe and Joyce). I think the messiness of this all adds to romantic development and it was wise to delay the story line. I mean, Joyce and Dorothy were having synchronized homoerotic dreams about each other at one point with the new additions.

Per month, obvs.
