C

Dorothy really put thought into it.

MrShoggoth

First time listening to Dark Side of the Moon: well it’s alright, it’s got some good songs on it. 971st time listening to Dark Side of the Moon: is this my life now

Sajuuk-Khar

…That is a FANTASTIC choice, Dorothy de Bergerac

Megh

Love Joyce's refusal to say bitch, and that that refusal has made bongo canon

Andrea Andrew

I saw Paramore. Good band. The Pretty Reckless would also be good for Joyce. She’s probably a fan of the Jim Carrey Grinch film.

Crunchos cereal

Well, it was '"Wish You Were Here' for me, but yeah.

Harold

Narrator: "Dorothy could, in fact, eat that girl for lunch"

Rob McBobson

Why would she in particular be a fan of it?

Dan Rabin

Do beamed eighth-notes count as notes touching? Because Joyce doesn't like her notes touching each other. It's progress enough that she doesn't mind them being pink.

Kelly (they-them)

Damn. Instead of, "Joyce, your new favorite music is Paramore," Dorothy might as well have said, "Joyce, I am madly in love with you."

Andrea Andrew

It was a wholesome and funny Christmas movie. The Cindy Lou actress is the frontwoman of the pretty reckless.

David M Willis

it's a secular no-jesus christmas movie from 7 years before she was born -- i'm not even sure she'd ever have seen it

Taffy

Hit 'er with For That Beautiful Feeling (the album, not just the song), it'll give her a powerful thirst for... Something. I haven't figured out what, but it's a mighty one.

Andrea Andrew

Good point, although hilariously, in 2010, Joyce would’ve been 7 or 8 when it came out 🤣. In any case, Taylor Momsen and Hayley Williams have a similar vocal range. The music is just as heavy. 🎼oh lord, heaven knows We belong way down below🎼

Kelly (they-them)

I went to listen to this song ("All I Wanted" featured in the 2009 album, "Brand New Eyes) cuz, y'know, I wanted the full impact of the strip. As I'm listening, I think, "Wait a minute." I rewind the song to the beginning and start reading the lyrics. This is. Ludicrously gay of Dorothy. This is unfathomably gay. This is very nearly - but not quite - even gayer than Becky. Dorothy is going to hear this song in her second semester at grad school and laugh at herself for not knowing she was bi sooner. This is like when during my senior year of HS I thought to myself, "Girls usually have way better butts but this guy's ass is great," and then continued to think of myself as straight.

Leon

Interesting song choice to preview the band. Also, I guess the title of the next chapter, The Only Exception, doubles as a Paramore song reference? Doubly interesting.

Kelly (they-them)

If you play a love song for Joyce, you'd better be playing it staccato

ALL I WANTED WAS YOOOOOOOOOOOU

Mandy Hoskins

Joyce being introduced to secular music on the same day she's wanting to have sex for the first time reminds me of that Questionable Content strip where Hanners said "I get a job and then hug someone in a socially acceptable manner? Maybe I'm finally ready to try Taco Bell!" It's just a lot for one day. 🤣

Kelly (they-them)

Joyce: I started listening to secular music and then I sexed up my boyfriend? Maybe I'm finally ready for an assembled taco!

Ragtime

Dorothy likes a ska band? New favorite character, sorry Roz.

SkittleE

This strip made me immediately think of The Pretty Reckless too! But the Jim Carrey Grinch was horrifying and nobody should be a fan of it.

Alexandra Falk

I'm happy to see Dorothy freed at least for a moment from the Panics to deploy her hard work.

Anna K

"Joyce, let me be your paramour."

Astariel

Oh, I relate to Joyce even more now. My brain does the same thing with new music. Also poetry.

Joey245

YESSSSSSSSS

Rob McBobson

E Lyons: If you mean the character, I enjoyed Carrey's performance. If you mean the movie as a whole, well, when I remember that movie I gotta keep reminding myself that other people are allowed to like stuff I didn't.

Andrea Andrew

Momsen was decent in the film. She actually gave Cindy Lou personality.

Andrea Andrew

🎼All I wanted was you🎼 -Dorothy to Joyce -Maybe Joyce to Dorothy

Andrea Andrew

I’m curious if Joyce would be into the Beatles or Green Day.

MrShoggoth

Does your brain ever do that thing where it hears a song you heard once a decade or more ago and forces you to listen to it a few hundred times within a week, or is that just me?

Astariel

Hmm, I'm not sure it's ever happened with a song I heard just once, but ones I've least heard a really long time ago, definitely.
