The second bonus strip this month is a strip I penciled and wrote a few versions of and then decided not to use! It would've run April 16 or so if it'd been completed, but it kind of stepped in the flow and so I kept the pencils and figured I'd ink it and color it and refine the punchline as a Patreon bonus strip later. And I did! 9 months later! And here it is!

yeah the uk used to call the ninja turtles the "hero turtles" for Reasons, but only before Jason was born, so he's gonna call them the Ninja Turtles. I asked around (on Bluesky). And now you feel old!!!!

LMAO, that's such a good face

GPanda

Robin never change 😂

Simon Davis

Ha, I thought the Bluesky question would show up in around 12 months, not a few hours XD

Railway Series Book Club

once that ruttech bombshell hits the main strips people are gonna be even more annoying about carla oh god

clpo13

Is it because they didn’t have a license for their ninja swords?

Grace Serenity

I think it was something to do with their censorship laws and ninja promoted violence or something

Megh

If it helps I can be annoying about Carla now if you like? And specifically annoying about how it's a tragedy that there are strips she doesn't appear in

Railway Series Book Club

webcomics aren't worth reading if there aren't trans women on screen at any given moment, this is true

Grace Serenity

I think the universe would explode if she did. Her dysfunction is load bearing!

Michael Steamweed

Well, fairly, one comment by Robin does not make for a guarantee that Carla's parents are military-industrial fascist billionaires. I mean, they might still be, but it ain't certain yet. And Carla herself might also be in opposition.

Michael Steamweed

"Good news, everyone! You can slow down the end of the world!"

Harold

@Fart Captor: Came here to say the same thing - I presume you mean that standalone face in panel 5. It's so Robin!

C

Robin: Next you’ll tell me Reaganomics wasn’t a Turtles catchphrase!

Puja

Grace has it - there was a moral panic in the 80s about kids copying violence and apparently the word "ninja" held such power that it had to be edited out of children's cartoons. You also weren't allowed to show shurikens and, for some episodes and tie-in merch, Michaelangelo wasn't allowed to have nunchucks, so they duplicated Donatello and recoloured his bandanna. And, so, a generation of children was saved from death by ninjitsu.

Joe360

@Michael Steamweed: At least they recognize their trans daughter, contrary to a certain fascist billionaire.

zaratustra

I learned this was more or less the work of a single man with a grudge, and when told nunchuck deaths in the UK were, basically, zero, he answered "that means I did my job"

TobyTura

aw, i wish this stayed in. i've been really curious where dotty's head is at re: career and ambitions

Andrea Andrew

Poor Dorothy. She’s basically all of us last November. I’m sure this was written before we knew how bad it would gets

Tamsyn Lawrence

Even when they were the Hero Turtles here, even in those pre-internet days... we knew they were ninjas. It was funny when as part of the same "ninja weapons" moral panic, they would replace shuriken in videogames for UK distribution. In one case they replaced them with darts, like you'd throw at a dartboard: scarcely less dangerous, but vastly more likely for a child in the UK to be able to find and then throw at another child.

Captain Button

I believe around that time the UK passed laws banning possession of "death stars" which made big problems for all the British people with planet-destroying spaceships.

Jesse

I want to see the Ninja Turtles go radicalizing around New York City.

Sajuuk-Khar

Being Jason is suffering

Dorothy, I would like to remind you you are speaking to someone who only ever did what the Republican Party told her to do and the only good thing SHE ever really tried to do was quit. I feel like you could probably find better people to learn from.

Mike Klingbiel

I've got a tiger repelling stone to sell to him

ValdVin

Yep. Robin's got a tight hold on Murc's Law, and as a conservative Hispanic ex-congresswoman, that attitude is her ticket to a career as a Beltway Inbred pundit. That "do good work on the margins sorta, sometimes" is the voice of a kid who has no idea where public roads, Medicare, or Social Security came from and what they did for her family. (And I recognize this strip was probably made before the current shitshow.)

Remember Spider-Man can never punch anyone, just kick them in the face.
