Ah, here's the swerve from the protest plot to possible hijinks around Oh-no-Joyce-and-Dorothy-are-missing. Thought bubbles are rare in this comic. There's nobody there to overhear thoughts had they been spoken, but perhaps there's an intended contrast between Sarah's internal thoughts and Becky's spoken message. Becky turns away from Sarah as she shows deep concern for Dorothy, and the wordless beat panel shows the two sharing this concern for their respective roommates. Then Becky swiftly leaves the scene with an anti-zinger of an anti-punch-line.

I feel like this is why Joyce is like, into Dorothy actually. She's VERY boring and routine and by the book but they both are. Vanilla and Milquetoast are VERY on brand for Joyce and i think her doing something like, barely confrontational and acting like it is a VERY BIG DEAL is also very on brand for her.
