Minzoku Bokumetsu

or making kissy faces that Daisy would LOVE PHOTOS OF

Megh

Was fully expecting this strip to end with Daisy texting her a picture of Joyce and Dorothy making out

Sajuuk-Khar

Billie returning to her natural role as Nostradamus of Being Wrong Nature is healing

HenryVolt

Anything is possible Jenny, anything is possible.

Grace Serenity

BRING ME PICTURES OF SAPPHIC -(wo)MAN!

Andrea Andrew

I guess Dorothy has a future as a reporter who can change the system, making Joyce her superwoman.

Jim Avery

It's those keen instincts that make a good reporter.

5099 5618 v2.0

We have 14 strips to go. By then, who knows?

C Bonesmith

Ol' Dotty has bigger fish to fry than a newspaper story, I think!

C

"What are the odds that Dorothy would be at a protest like this? She wants to be President, so she can't have any actual ethics...though it could be performative...Nah, she'd only show up if it meant covering up a scandal...like cheating on Walky with Joyce...but that wouldn't happen...or would it? Well...she definitely wouldn't make out with Joyce AT a political protest lest she was ready to burn every bridge of her overly self-important dream..." Alice: ...This is all VERY SPECIFIC Billie.

Harold

"Wait, what's this... 'two bespectacled blondes steal show at protest with love display.' Great - now that's all Daisy's gonna be thinking about. She'll probably assign Dorothy to cover that, too."

Maybeeus

You know, Quasimodo predicated all of this.

Andrea Andrew

I mean, she has her old girlfriend back.

GundamBradley

I, too, would rather hang out with Alice than have to go check that out.

Acebender

waiting for the inevitable picture of the kiss

Derek Benson

This cutaway is ruling my ass because it works so well

Kelly (they-them)

Billie assumed Dorothy wasn't protesting herself because, like Asma, Billie has picked up on Dotty's big cop energy

Amós Batista

Congratulations, Jennifer, you lose the opportunity of your life: Protest, Amazi-girl and a chance to annoy your rival, Dorothy.

C.T. Phipps

I can easily see Dorothy being like, "Listen, the situation in Bulmeria is complicated. Can't we just wish for a swift resolution and peace?" You know because both sides centrism worked out so well.

Maude Reads Things

Huh, okay, so Jennifer's face is going to pop in the morning

NinjaZaku

In fairness, I don't think writing an article is going to be Dorothy's priority in the next few days

Jesse

Okay, admittedly I’d be reluctant to rush out on the off chance of being beaten to it, too.

Railway Series Book Club

I mean, to be fair to Jennifer, given what Dorothy did while she *was* down there, I dunno if Daisy would actually want Dorothy to be the writer for this Amazi-Girl story. something something conflict of interest, something something journalistic integrity? then again once Daisy realizes the girls that went viral from making out at the protest are one of her top reporters *and* her most autistic cartoonist respectively, maybe her Mad Journalism Skillz are gonna fly out the window in favor of turning the IDS into a yuri magazine, idk

Megh

The IDS isn't already a yuri magazine?

Sajuuk-Khar

Daisy’s Journalism Brain: dang this would actually be a bad look we should carefully navigate— Daisy’s Lesbian Heart: BBBBBEEEEEAAAAAUUUUUTIIIIIIFUUUUUULLLLLL!!!!! *explodes like a defeated Sailor Moon miniboss into one billion sakura petals, yurifies the entire journalism department into a witch’s barrier from Madoka*

Maybeeus

I really do kinda hope someone snagged a photo of joyce and dorothy making out at the protest because it would be a perfect spanner in the works. No playing off what happened, no turning back. They're locked into this now. The contrast between Becky personally nuking her closet from orbit and Joyce and Dorothy forcibly having theirs obliterated in the same manner would be insanely fitting and fun to see play out.

Kelly (they-them)

God, I love Alice so much. I'm voting for her in the next bonus strip since Asma's off the table

Omnithea

This is why Parker keeps beating you, Brock.

E

BUT DOROTHY’S KEENER

Ph

I read this as Becky nuking Dorothy's literal closet in revenge.

5099 5618 v2.0

I imagine it'll become a painting, eventually. Like an in-universe Last Supper variant.

Albi

...there was an alternative read for that!? /j

T Campbell

"So Dorothy turned in an article on her experience at the protest, but it's just 2,000 words of erotic sapphic free-association. 'I could taste the tear gas on her lips,' stuff like that. So, of course, I put it on the front page and gave her a promotion" --Daisy probably

T Campbell

Alice would be SUCH a good Peter Parker girlfriend. "It's the Scorpion, honey! He's taken hostages! You need to go. Don't worry, I'll pay for dinner, we'll settle up once Jameson pays you for the photos!" She wouldn't be in on the secret and covering, she'd just be THAT INTO Peter Parker, heroic photojournalist. (Or Patricia Parker, if you prefer)

Harold

That reminds me - Willis was so busy posting all that wonderfully insightful extra stuff yesterday that he's late with the bonus-strip voting thread. Hopefully we'll get it today.

Harold

When Dorothy finally returns to their room, she'll find that Becky's Pile of Lesbos is now covering her bed and desk.

Harold

@Seth Aaron Hershman: Queer and Loving in Bloomington

Heatth

I love seeing more Alice. I feel I still don't quite understand her deal. She seems particularly excited in the prospect of Jennifer doing journalism, more than Jennifer herself. I wonder what she is expecting.

Harold

@Heatth: Maybe she's just excited that B/J appears to be focusing on something genuine. She's still too concerned about how other people see her/feel about her, but she seems to be trying, and Alice appreciates that.

Harold

On my bus ride home from work, I pass a bench with an ad for a local Realtor whose last name is Keener; the slogan reads, "Buy and Sell - The Keener Way!" I can't help but smile every time I see it.

Edwin I Callahan

Well, there never was a closet in the first place, and I don’t think either one of them is interested in building one now. Dorothy is going to go to war now for Joyce, and Joyce will do the same for Dorothy. It’s going to be a dangerous thing to be their enemy. People would be fools to worry about the gayness; they should be worrying about the fury.

Edwin I Callahan

I think Billie continuing to hang with Alice actually might be better for her. I hope Willis does more with the character in the future, though he might have to do some spinoff strips to fit in all the characters he has now.

Heatth

I could see that. But then I worry if the casual dismissal is not a bit disappointing.

5099 5618 v2.0

Hey, does anyone else remember the April Fools' Day Slipshine of Joyce and Dorothy making out, a few years ago? That happened, right? I didn't hallucinate that, did I?

Railway Series Book Club

i dunno if Joyce's secret identity as a mild-mannered cartoonist is gonna cut it, theres nothing mild about her (except maybe her chicken strips)

Maybeeus

WRATH MONTH STILL GOING STRONG BABYYY I'd say that Joyce up until recently was probably closeted but mostly just very deep in denial with the exception that she would very much Stop being in denial if she ever got any sort of green flag from Dorothy. However, Dorothy herself was never closeted yeah she had the nail hammered in by Joe and immediately went "oh i AM bi fuck". I really think about "Answers in Hennessy" often where the B-plot is literally about Joyce's gay awakening that gets derailed by the fact she at the time had a boyfriend she was really into which meant she COULDN'T POSSIBLY be gay. Going into the story or rereading knowing Joyce is bi reframes so many things but it does repeatedly show that Dorothy being bi is a far larger swerve by comparison. (this post took hours to make because i both forgot and my internet died out.)

T Campbell

I recall David doing a set of makeouts-on-demand whether they were in-character or not as a Kickstarter bonus a couple of times, was it that? (It could've been a there-and-gone Slipshine, I don't keep up with that as much)

5099 5618 v2.0

Yup. Found it. Did not hallucinate that, tho I wonder if it now counts as foreshadowing.

5099 5618 v2.0

"Hang on.... Keener, are these Paramore lyrics?"

Harold
