That reluctance has itself been clear over many strips, but we finally get Dorothy to say what's bugging her—she's always been the knowledgeable, prepared partner (as on Laundry Day), and she hadn't updated these feelings in light of Joyce's growth.

I've posted before that I won't be surprised if it turns out that she talked to Bryan about it when she took Ethan to the group meet for questioning individuals. I don't necessarily agree with this point specifically, it actually feels pretty in character for semester 2 Joyce. But "too clean for my taste" is a good descriptor for them. They fit together too smoothly, they're not nervous enough for me. Too comfortable. I like more discomfort, more friction, clumsiness.
