Lia

Now we DID fuck over her twin brother

Laura

Oh no they're going to bring Sal

Ragtime

Poor Sal is gonna get another unrequited suiter.

ArdieBea

Still talking slightly past each other

C

Ooh, Big Lebowski arc. Let's hit the lanes!

Laura

Though, I imagine Asma might not mind

Harold

I... Think We Could Still Get HER to Come: A Dumbing of Age Pornographique

Sajuuk-Khar

Oh my God this could be disastric or it could be fantastrous Also lmao they’ve preemptively exiled themselves from the friend group. Jesus H. Christ.

5099 5618 v2.0

Oh, she needs to be much more specific...

Harold

"This is not Dunn Meadow, Joyce! This is bowling! There are RULES!"

Harold

Alice!

Fart Captor

JUST LIKE IN MY ANIMES 🥹

5099 5618 v2.0

@Laura Silver medal, sure. But it's not nothing.

Packy Anderson

To be fair, "hair, leather jacket, boots" is pretty non-specific in this comic. But you're right. It's definitely Alice.

Packy Anderson

... but will Joyrothy *think* she means Sal?

Harold

Holy shit, until commenters started mentioning Sal I didn't realize the extremely high likelihood of misunderstanding-based shenanigans that could result from this. As if Danny wasn't *already* probably going to be pissed at Dorothy because of the Joe situation.

5099 5618 v2.0

@Ragtime Once she's got a full dozen, she probably gets a discount on her next leather jacket. So, that should be next.

Syl

oh this should be fun

Logibear

Currently drinking the tears of all of the people accusing Asma of being Queerphobic now. num num num. This girl is downbad for someone she only got a view of from behind...

Astariel

Hoo boy, this should be interesting.

Logibear

Pretty sure Sal might be a bit pissy about the Walky situation too. This is going to be a disaster.

Populuxe

I thought for sure it was Sal, but you’re right, it’s Alice. Excellent detective work.

5099 5618 v2.0

@Packy Anderson I assume they haven't figured out Asma means Alice, yeah

Kelly (they-them)

I love that we find out that Asma is queer practically the very moment she's given real screen. AND we find out she's a bowling enthusiast. Amazing. Alas, she is now being thrust into a comedy of errors. I'm all aboard the Asma/Alice train now. Still aboard the Alice/Billingsworth ship, as well.

5099 5618 v2.0

@Sajuuk-Khar Headcannon: drawn and written like Baki the Grappler, but it's bowling. And Yuri. (Would also accept Hajime no Ippou, but bowling + Yuri[1]) [1] - DEMPSEY ROLL (as impossible bowling technique and also sex move, somehow)

Sajuuk-Khar

“This is what happens, Faz! This is what happens when you [find a stranger in the Alps]!”

Sajuuk-Khar

But in a much more entertaining way!

Sajuuk-Khar

Sal brings Danny, and Asma goes “wait. I need to see this as a challenge.”

Laura

on another note, Asma's dialogue in panel reminds me of early Dorothy. I think they have the potential to have constructive conversations about the protest, politics, kissing girls

GundamBradley

I feel like Dorothy and Joyce are not quite getting what Asma is telling them, though even if they did, what she said would still be true. They came to help Jocelyn, and they did indeed lose track of that goal due to the tension of the moment. Still, I am optimistic that this can all be a learning experience, with time.

Sajuuk-Khar

Asma hates to see her go but LOVES to watch her leave

Harold

@Steve Horton: This definitely seems to be confirmation that Asma is reading some kind of bowling-themed romance novel. Which I doubt is actually a thing; it seems to be an absurdist sight gag riffing on the current popularity of sports-themed romances in general. (Having said that, I would not be surprised to learn that Bowling Romance is, actually, a thriving subgenre.)

GundamBradley

I do love the potential for hijinks here. More Asma sounds fun, and more Alice as well. I also like that Dorothy recognizes that gee, we sure did fuck up our entire friend group, because I wonder a bit if that's sunk in for Joyce. Becky's the obvious one, but Sarah's angry with them, Walky and Joe would be awkward as sin right now, so yeah, Jennifer and by extension Alice are some of the only real avenues at the moment.

5099 5618 v2.0

"Ve are [atheists]! Ve believe in [secular Science]!"

Logibear

A derrière enthusiast at heart.

5099 5618 v2.0

@Kelly (they-them) Is it funnier if Asma is a bowling prodigy, or if she is very, very bad at it and Sal offers to train her[1]? [1] - Bonus if she becomes the Joseph Joestar of the group

Harold

Sal: "Nice iguana." [Malaya tosses Fuckface into bathtub]

GundamBradley

I mean, Sarah's pissed at them, Becky's wallowing, Amber's currently recovering from serious injuries, Walky and Joe are not likely people they want to be hanging around right now whether it is or isn't an option, and Jennifer's cool with them, but no telling if Sal is going to tell them to go fuck themselves. They may be off to wash their bedding, but they've made their bed already all the same, so to speak.

Sajuuk-Khar

Given the amount of truly horrific facial expressions in Baki I really hope for Ippo lmao

GundamBradley

I like the idea that they mistake Asma's description for Sal, yet Asma just has to thirst for Sal regardless, like sorry Asma, them's the rules.

Megh

i mean they are cheating cheaters who cheat sooooo

Sajuuk-Khar

The more I talk about the Toxic Fuckpile the more I actually want to see it (Asma x Alice x Billie x Ruth x Becky, Also Jason is There)

5099 5618 v2.0

@Harold Nice iguana TO DIE IN! [1] [1] - oops. Switched movies (>.<;)

5099 5618 v2.0

@GuneamBradley Sal seems to be irresistible to ladies who are into ladies. She's just not into ladies (as far as I can tell [1] ) [1] - Not sure if Marcie would take Sal having a girlfriend better or worse than Becky has. Hopefully better, tho.

5099 5618 v2.0

@Sajuuk-Khar Participating or bartending?

Smoochie

Comments days ago: “How could Joyce and Dorothy possibly blow up every relationship in forming their own?” Me then: “Oh there’s many ways, give it time.” Me now: “Ah-ha. Yahtzee.”

Smoochie

…the more I think about this, the more I question my sanity. “Hahaha Walky, I proved all your mocking and insults right by stealing Dorothy! Everything you’ve ever said about me in relation to her was true! Hahahahhaaha!”

5099 5618 v2.0

@Smoochie Would that also make Walky a Prophet of Willis? (Bonus if his scrying medium is chicken nuggets, somehow)

Sajuuk-Khar

Both, and both begrudgingly

tifani

Ok they clearly think she means Sal so now I predict some kind of future group hang where Asma thinks she’s being set up with Alice. But in this hypothetical future who is showing up to this bowling group date? Joe is one person. I assume that this’ll take place when he and Dorothy/Joyce are in the very early days of the polycule. Sarah would likely come in this situation where she is likely now new friends with Joe and likely working on repairing her relationship with Dorothy/Joyce. Tony as Sarah’s plus one. Most likely Joss. Maybe Carla. Maybe Charlie. Maybe Asher/Ethan. Dina no. Becky no. Walky no. Billie maybe. Alice if they can get Billie. Sal…idk. Daisy? Single. Thirsty af. Likes being told off?….,Asma single. Thirsty. Likes telling people off….Invite Daisy. Booster? Maybe.

Sajuuk-Khar

@Megh: look they should just go get Celestial Dew from Turtle Pope and everyone will go back to normal. Or go talk to Oswald about the whole “drenched in sin” thing. Either way.

Diane

Poor Asma. She wants Alice, but they're gonna invite Sal.

tifani

Seriously I have talked myself into Daisy/Asma.

Tessea

Uhhh..... That sounds like Sal. I don't think this is going to improve Asma's view of Joyce and Dorothy. _BUT_ Asma really didn't give the most distinctive description.

Smoochie

@5099 Well of course it has to be chicken nuggets. That or a Switch.

tifani

Yeah and that will be interesting because her reaction to them could go either way.

tifani

In her defense she does not know these people well at all but I feel like she’s actually opening up a lot here in isn’t now so them bringing the wrong girl when she thinks she’s being hooked up in the change for letting her guard down is interesting.

tifani

“I think we could still get her to come” Yeah Dorothy is already putting together that their previous friend group is gone now and the new one is undefined. Joyce seems to be thinking that too. The self delusion is slipping. The new normal is beginning.

Astariel

They did accomplish their goal. They warned Jocelyne about Hank. It was on their way out that they got sidetracked, first by Dorothy's breakdown and then by Joyce's epiphany.

Fart Captor

We're gonna sadly have to break up yet another m/f couple with bisexual revelation. So tragic 😔

tifani

The new D/J primary social circle: Joe, Asma, Sarah, Tony, Daisy, Joss. Billie. Alice (?) Sal (?), Danny (??????) Asher, Ethan, Amber, Booster. Agatha. Sierra. Mandy. Grace. Roz. Ruth.

tifani

The new (stay away do not engage) for Dorothy/Joyce: Dina, Becky, Walky. Lucy (I see her siding with Walky actually). Jacob (depending on Lucy’s reaction). Raidah.

tifani

Who? Danny/Sal? I don’t see them breaking up.

C

Looking back at the strip where Asma learned about Joyce and Dorothy's cheating (with inaccurate framing due to gossip), Alice was wearing a leather jacket and boots.

Jesse

Asma’s alright.

GundamBradley

They did, but it's like you say, they did still get sidetracked. What Asma's saying happened did still wind up happening.

Fart Captor

I don't think those two even KNOW Alice

Sajuuk-Khar

Joyce does know Alice! She helped get Alice to talk to Billie again, leading her down the inevitable path of putting her cooch on Billie’s cooch.

Sajuuk-Khar

Danny gets thrown in the literal garbage, blames Walky for it

Zesstra

ASMA STATS This is Asma's 32nd main strip appearance, and 17th in which she speaks. For the first time ever, she has kept a >50% speaking ratio for more than one strip! With 73 words, this is her wordiest strip, massively overtaking Removed (3:4) which had 57. This will likely conclude ASMA STATS unless something interesting happens.

Zesstra

Asma is now* also on the Cast page! Well done, you got there. Maybe Marcie will get her spot there at some point too, she's probably the most narratively important person not there (and Mary, but... Mary...). The other ladies in the corridor or over at Forest Quad are understandably absent. *I don't check the cast page very often so I'm not sure exactly when that happened.

Zesstra

Huh, Tony got bumped in favour of Asma; get wrecked, Tony.

Beck Chonigman

That's actually, genuinely good advice. Also, Asma has good taste in sport. (I think bowling is technically a sport).

5099 5618 v2.0

@S-K Just like Cyclops, back in the day. I guess that makes Walky DoA's Wolverine, then.

Lea

Found so, so many no-review, Kindle Unlimited bowling themed romance novels just first page on Amazon. Bowling for Love Midnight Strike Love at First Strike Not saying they're popular, or are in any way good, but they definitely exist in some form.

Fart Captor

I don't see Dina having any issue with them. And Becky's more of a "give space for a while" situation than anything definite

Smoochie

@Fart Captor I dunno… Dina tolerated Joyce in some circumstances, certainly found a friendship with Joe, and with the situation about Becky—while I can’t say Dina might hate her, I can see her making no effort to be around them.

Dan Rabin

In this strip, Asma both makes clear the moral stance by which she disapproves of Joyce and Dorothy's conduct at the protest, and also starts acting on her apparent attraction to Alice. The pivot occurs between her two horizontally-divided panels right at the visual center of the strip. In this juxtaposition, we see in Asma some of the same elements we've seen in Dorothy: high-minded social concerns cohabiting with strong desire for romantic companionship. And, as other commenters point out, there's potential for Joyce and Dorothy to bring Sal when Asma wants Alice—putting sitcom-like plotting on the table along with carefully-planned potential for character development. David Willis will not have his comic read at only one level! I also note Joyce's expression in panel 2 as Dorothy invites Asma into their social sphere. Dorothy is ahead of Joyce in understanding that their new relationship is disrupting their old associations, and that they will do better to adapt than to fight. By panel 6 Joyce seems to be on board. I don't know if the world is ready for a sport combining roller derby and bowling, alas. There would be a lot of interesting physics to depict.

Fart Captor

Nah it's inevitable now. Sal and Asma are gonna end up really hitting it off, Sal's gonna discover she's bi after all. Danny gets thrown in the dumpster, then Marcie ends up seeing Sal and Asma kiss and HER heart gets broken Just one long disastrous bisexual chain reaction

MrShoggoth

Bowling was a sports elective during my HSC year and it was the most fun I had at high school sports.

MrShoggoth

The one positive in that potential disaster is Malaya getting hit by the fallout. Not much of a positive and not one to be celebrating, but I’ll take what I can get.

Onyx

I would just like to say, referencing my comment yesterday, I told you so on all counts.

MrShoggoth

Obviously you’re not a golfer.

HenryVolt

I would'nt say their friends are going to disowned them...I just think they're going very distant for a while.

Sajuuk-Khar

lmao why would Lucy care that much Like yes she’s loyal in her personal relationships but

Sajuuk-Khar

I might be wrong, I was wildly off base on Sarah, but like there at least there’s her belief in Joyce as “the better little sister” and her budding friendship with Joe but like, is Lucy really gonna DNI over her ex’s now-ex banging the bisexual white version of her? why?? it’s so much effort over nothing??? what about her personality or appearances suggests she’d get that invested in one instance of cheating unrelated to her by several degrees??

Sajuuk-Khar

“YOU’RE KILLING YOUR FATHER, FAZ!” (Blaine revealed to be alive in an iron lung, it is implied he is suffering constantly)

Sajuuk-Khar

So there’s like a 0.000005% chance they actually ace this social situation. Maybe. Very slightly possibly.

Sajuuk-Khar

Short king has short reign

Sajuuk-Khar

@5099: I mean, he’s small, feral, weirdly attractive, insane metabolism, probably Linda grafted metal to his skeleton while he was still conscious because it would make him “more employable” or some shit—it fits @FC: see, THIS is why Danny is mad in those preview panels from January! He’s ranting to Joe about bisexual chain reactions harming him, a bisexual twink!

Shane Wegner

“Mark it zero.” ::slides the action on a grappling hook gun::

Avian

So she means Alice, but I have to assume they think she means SAL. Because they barely know alice.

Annie

Go, Asma! Make their guilt work for you!! Though I hope Dorothy and Joyce know it's Alice to invite and not Sal. Cause that description works for both,

AE Gonzalez

Guarantee Asma’s thinking Alice, Joyrothy are thinking Sal.

AE Gonzalez

Could be Asma/Alice/Billifer

Empress of Robots

Friend with a leather jacket and boots? I cannot WAIT for Dorothy and Joyce to show up with Sal lmao

Empress of Robots

Danny: "Welp. This is DEFINITELY not the double-date situation I had expected"

Tessea

While true, Joyce and Dotty don't know Alice well. They're doubtless going to think of Sal first.

Mojotron

They totally think she’s talking about Sal

Smoochie

@Sajuuk I…Can kind of see Lucy (if she and Walky ever have an honest convo about what went wrong plus her finding out he’s currently not speaking to his mom because of what happened) less taking Walky’s side and more thinking Dorothy just ain’t shit. Because why would she ever have a good opinion of Dorothy pushing a boy towards her, and then deciding she wanted him back, snatching him up with the speed before the relationship was cold in the ground, and then getting with a girl very similar to you. (That’s not even to mention Dorothy tried to get Walky to cheat on her but Lucy doesn’t know that.)

tifani

@sajuk I think Lucy will care because 1. the cheating aspect 2. Leftover feelings for Walky and not liking that he’s hurt. 3. Resentment towards Dorothy for swooping in to hook up with Walky that soon after she dumped him only for Dorothy to dump Walky immediately for Joyce. 4. Her whole thing with Sarah and the Dana thing showed she has a tendency to take drama not her business kind of personally when it comes to revealing how people treat people and she has way more stakes in this latest drama.

Sajuuk-Khar

@Smoochie: Oh I think for sure she probably quietly thinks Dorothy kind of sucks as a romantic partner/person, but like, actively doing anything about it? Nahhhh. @Tifani: why is the cheating her business, why care about that?? Walky is persona non grata right now and she might at most sympathize *after* a long, honest talk from him but the current reaction from Lucy would be “smug satisfaction” because like, “oops! could’ve had me if you tried harder, boy! sucks to suck!” I mean she probably thinks Dorothy is bad to be in a relationship with but again, why…give a shit? her reaction to hearing that Sarah “discarded” Dana isn’t really evidence of anything but being empathetic? also…what…stakes? what stakes does she have beyond thinking “Dorothy sure swaps dance partners in a hurry??” I don’t get it. Nothing about this reads like Lucy would think this was her circus or her monkeys.

tifani

Look I’m sorry but I do not have the energy to rehash everything I just said re: Lucy. I feel like I laid it all out. You don’t have to agree. There’s also the “Dorothy ain’t shit” idea Smoochie pointed out. But I get the impression you want the characters and their motivations to all follow some kind of logical path as to who gets to feel what. Keep in mind Lucy broke up with Walky roughly a day before he hooked up with Dorothy. That’s way too soon for her to not care about any of this anymore even with Jacob who lets be real is a rebound relationship used to distract her from Walky and Dorothy. My point is she is still apart of this whole emotional mess enough that wounds are fresh and her reacting would not be ooc. But again you really don’t have to get it. It’s fine. And I don’t see her doing anything about whatever feelings other than not actively socializing with Dorothy or Joyce in the immediate aftermath. So not joining their new patchwork friend group. Nothing bigger than that.

Empress of Robots

Bold of you to assume that Joyce and Dorothy are thinking XD

Seth Aaron Hershman has they/she pronouns

i love dorothy's confidence here. sal is 1. notoriously antisocial 2. currently on good terms with walky and 3. actively in denial about ever participating in anything with structure or rules but yeah, sure. you could still get her to come!

Harold

@Zesstra: It definitely happened within the last couple of days. CAST PAGE BENCHES QB FOR GOOD BI* (*Making assumption for the sake of the joke)

Andrea Andrew

I believe Asma was referring to Alice.

KittyKai

And I believe Dorthy and Joyce are referring to Sal. Which, yes, is very much an OOF xP

Dmitri0240

The good news is that the danger of Asma being a bigot seems to be closing. However, I can't help but feel like she traded one purely functional role (front desk girl) for another (the mouthpiece for readers who think Joyce and Dorothy haven't been scolded enough for their unforgivable transgressions). She had the opportunity to make a pointed critique of what Joyce and Dorothy actually did wrong at the protest. Now, I personally don't think they deserve or need that lecture, but I understand why a third party who wasn't privy to Dorothy's mental health crisis would think they did. But she consistently chose not to do that, and instead make overly-broad arguments that feel confused, misleading, or someone else's. Anyway, here's hoping the next arc is the start of more satisfying and consistent characterization for her.

zee

Idk if dotty even knows Alice. They're absolutely bringing sal

Empress of Robots

I also love the implication that Asma has been reading Bowling Yuri

Zesstra

Sickos stay winning, Team Sicko for life.

Sajuuk-Khar

Danny: *chuckles* I’m in danger!

Empress of Robots

There’s also Strike or Gutter (which I haven’t read). Miggggght need to start reading bowling yuri

zee

Ahh, here we go. A classic comedic misunderstanding.

tifani

Speaking of comedic misunderstandings: I’m putting all my eggs in the this somehow leads to Daisy/Asma basket. In a delightful odd couple type romance sort of way.

tifani

Sal: If she comes to the bowling party she will not pick up what Dorothy/Joyce are putting down at all. So much so it won’t even occur to her what they’re doing. She’ll bring Danny, bowl a perfect game, then bounce. Alice if she does show up will likely show up with Billie and the two will be in similar oblivious love bubble as DoJo. But if they invite Daisy? She’s single. She’s thirsty. Asma can chew her out on that front page cover and we already know based on her reaction to Raidah that turns Daisy on. Asma will realize she likes yelling at Daisy in a very different way she likes yelling at most people.

Harold

@Tifani: It would be a win-win - Asma needs more comic time, and Daisy needs a fucking break (in every sense). I think Daisy may be doomed to perpetual unresolved horntness, though.

Harold

Danny [plucking his uke as he sits in the bowling alley, alone]: HELLO DARKNESS MY OLD FRIEND

Harold

@Lea: Well, I stand corrected! Please, please tell me that there's one with the fake title I came up with: "Pinned in the Alley"

Rob McBobson

I don't follow completely. What's inconsistent about Asma's characterization?

zee

Also finally asma's point is coherent. It was giving me a headache trying to interpret what she was saying and seeing the people who deliberately took the most uncharitable interpretation

zee

"the one with the hair" girl you did this to yourself

zee

Coulda been more descriptive than "the one with the hair". Like... "The one with that cool, shaggy, asymmetrical haircut? Purple lipstick?"

zee

Look if walky were a better boyfriend dotty wouldn't have made out with Joyce at the protest, meaning this interaction with asma wouldn't have happened, there wouldn't be an understanding that lead to sal going on a bowling double date with them and he wouldn't have gotten his gf stolen ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ it is walky's fault

zee

He watches but he's not allowed to touch himself. Not sure he'd even want to

zee

Turkey? (I don't actually know anything about turkey other than it's a Moe cute girls bowling anime and also there's a twist somewhere there ig. And moeblob cute girls doing cute things shit tends to get at least a little gay)

Diane

@Fart Captor Watch the paladins hem and haw at that break up cause they're POC and you can get angry at the white women but Sal and Asma? Ohhhh it will break their brains to figure out how to paladin this one.

Dmitri0240

Maybe you live somewhere where homophobia has been completely stamped out, but I know I don't, and I know that Joyce and Dorothy don't either. Grab a random Indiana college student off the street, and the chances that person has regressive views on sexuality is at least 25%. (And it would be much higher anywhere other than a college campus.) Now imagine you *just* came out of the closet, and a stranger to whom you were attempting to apologize starts lecturing you that you should feel guilty about something else that you did with your partner in private. It shouldn't require the "most uncharitable interpretation" for your homophobia alarm bells to start going crazy. Joyce and Dorothy both have first-hand experience that this type of bigotry is still alive and well in the world, and they have no reason to think that Asma specifically is beyond reproach on the subject. I'm glad the strip didn't turn Asma into a raging homophobe. But I continue to baffled by the point she was trying to make, or why she thought that was the best way to make it.

Laura

I'm relieved. I hope it wasn't intentional to give her lines that could be read as homophobic

Laura

it's not really asma's specific job to educate joyce and dorothy on what they did wrong. they sought her out individually while she was working! she doesn't have real evidence that dorothy doesn't have "cop energy". there are a multitude of reasons why she would not feel emotionally available or safe to give these two white girls she doesn't know a pointed critique

zee

Brother I'm Jamaican homophobia is literally written into our law I just also know that Willis is smarter than to insert a bunch of new scenes of his Muslim characters after realizing he slipped up with the protest, only to immediately play into the stereotype that Muslims are homophobic bigots

zee

Also don't gloss over Joyce's anti apology like it had nothing to do with this. Dotty wanted to apologize, Joyce wanted to gush about her girlfriend to some customer service worker being held hostage at her desk. She cut off the real (half assed but w/e) apology to make it known she will not be apologizing for something that was, yeah, fuckin inappropriate for the setting. Don't have a tear gas wedding while people are being beaten down by the police around you at a protest that isn't even about queer rights, for a cause you've shown 0 interest in thusfar. Asma has every right to be pissy with them for interrupting her day, trying to get their lil white guilt confessional at her desk while she's working and can't leave, then immediately pivoting to Joyce making this whole issue about her kissing her gf, again. She's being way too nice to them frankly. And yeah, it is kinda islamophobic that people immediately assumed homophobia when so far Asma has been characterized as reasonable and FUCKING QUEER BTW, seemingly with no internalized shame about it considering how she checked out Alice with 0 hint of "oh no this is wrong".

tifani

@zee you are just always speaking truth.

tifani

God I hope not. Her desperation is kind of annoying at this point.

zee

I'm also queer by the by, closeted irl bc I don't wanna die. I've had to listen to a college teacher recount how she joined a mob that chased a gay couple off a pier into the sea like it was a funny story, I have to sit and act like I don't care while my coworkers complain about gay shit being "shoved" into a fucking show about god damn. Hercules. I shouldn't have to explain why that logic is ridiculous to anyone who knows even a little bit about the Greeks and their myths. I have to laugh casually and try to deescalate when my taxi driver gets mad about some dude walking a little too feminine with "oh I just mind my business", like he's just calling his shirt ugly and not being hateful. I'm sorry to pop off on you because I know there's no reasonable way you'd know any of this, and I don't know anything about you! But it really, really pisses me off to be talked down to about the realities of homophobia online

zee

Thank you tifani, you are always very sweet to me and I appreciate your support, and reading your analysis on this arc. Sorry for getting heated y'all, that was. A very raw nerve.

tifani

Yeah like she BARELY knows them. I get that she radiates the kind of vibes that say this is someone with a good head on her shoulders I think seeking out her friendship is a very very wise move for these two chucklefucks but it’s also kind of insane. Like these two realized they blew their lives up and pulled her into their orbit as a human life raft. A) not her job b) reeks of magical minority BUT I think they are also spiraling and this is more about her solid vibes than them trying to use her. I think in the short time they’ve actually gotten to know her they rightfully grew to highly respect her. They are just..such dorks about it. And so white about it. It’s only right that Asma uses this as a potential to get laid.

tifani

I’m sorry you have to deal with any of that. The world is mostly shit tbh.

tifani

I’m still not 100% clear on what defines a sicko vs paladin. I don’t think I fit either tbh.

Derick Huth

Asma is being super chill. Like she has every right to go off on these two, but she's keeping it together

Derick Huth

Which I realize often comes with being a member of a marginalized community

Harold

@Seth Aaron Hershman: Come and knock on our door...

Smoochie

@zee Hey, a fellow Caribbean! My whole family is Trini and I have to co-sign on this that a few of countries, Jamaica, Trinidad, Haiti have it literally written in law. You might find Aruba or Barbados a safer haven but some of our homes have not gotten with the times. Especially if you are a queer or an ally in these circumstances, you can’t speak your mind or voice or feelings.

DramaQueen

We saw her looking at Alice but that really sounds like Sal. It really could be almost anyone. Carla. At least we got a pronoun.

DramaQueen

I love that she’s reading a thick book about bowling. That is incredibly nerdy and implies she’s either a professional bowler or someone who has never actually touched a bowling ball and is going to have their head spinning with too much undigested detail.

Calder Johnson

But what if they're going for the Frenzied Flame ending??

Calder Johnson

@tifani your logic is flawless. Zero notes.

tifani

Speaking of consistency: These last two comics are the most “screentime” Asma’s ever gotten. Her character is basically being established now. What is there to contradict? We’re just now getting to know her. And everything laid out so far tracks.

tifani

Yeah because that’s how Willis treats his minorities. Walking Dead rules. You get a new one you gotta kill one of the old ones. They’ve been missing for like 4 seconds what are you talking about?

tifani

And where was this worry when Joyce and Dorothy were eating up 90% of the story? He spends two seconds letting Asma develop a personality and you’re like “I guess Becky and Sarah got eaten by the void?” Jesus Christ you’re talking about a Muslim woman “replacing” a white girl based on the bare minimum of focus. That’s tiptoeing near great replacement theory territory.

tifani

Holy shit Willis choosing to upgrade a Muslim girl to recurring has brought out a really ugly side of this audience. Willis I vote you make her your third main character immediately. Hell make her your protagonist. Have Joyce dump Dorothy for her and then she turns Joyce down.

tifani

I’m barely kidding. A lot of you should absolutely be fucking ashamed of yourselves.

tifani

Come at me over this and I block you btw. I’m not debating this shit.

GundamBradley

Yup, knowing that getting heated will only make her easier to dismiss.

GundamBradley

Eventually, certainly, though I think Dorothy is still contending with her previously sheltered beliefs. I do kind of wonder about that, if Dorothy will wind up talking about that with Asma or possibly Roz. I feel like Dorothy would be less likely to consider Raidah for that, but she's also an option, honestly. In general, I want Dorothy to challenge herself.

@Tifani: Coming soon to a comics page near you: ASMA WORLD TURNS

5099 5618 v2.0

@S-K A dash of catnip for the poly folk: Cyclops and Wolverine are canonically Jean's co-husbands, at this point. So, maybe there's hope for DoA, yet

5099 5618 v2.0

@Kelly (they-them) Friends tell me that they learned quite a lot about World History from period-piece romance novels. Reading Discworld is basically like doing a wiki dive about once a chapter as well. So, it could be both.

5099 5618 v2.0

@Tifani I suspect that's how finding new [ partners / (compatible folk) ] works IRL, as well. At least, in hindsight that seems to be part of it, IMHEX.

5099 5618 v2.0

@Tifani I'm more for the ethic of Pinhead in the recent Hellraiser t.v. series (2022) [1], only for dramatic tension and ethical quandries. [1] - "What is it you pray for? Salvation? A joyful note? Without change? Without end? Heaven? "There's no music in that. "There is so much more [ (a character) | (the audience) ] can be made to feel, and you'll feel it all before we're through..."

They are so lucky she hasn't grabbed the broom/poking stick

There was a hellraiser tv series? I’m a big fan of the first two movies (haven’t seen the rest) and I liked the remake.

tifani

I didn’t know someone could get booted off the cast page once added but a white dude being bumped for Asma is very funny given the reaction to her. I do like Tony though.

Hot af. Dope fashion sense. Drinks a lot of pop. Loves hot goss. But yeah the purple lipstick would for sure narrow it down. No one else is rocking that shade.

Tessea

Like Joyce said, she's very pretty.

It's comments like these that make me glad my new job makes me miss 99% of the comments these days.

Asma has good advice and is clearly using the 'being far more reasonable than I should have to be' skills that working the front desk at a university lets her practice. JFC these two. Asma clearly means Alice but tbh if she likes girls with leather jackets and cool boots, Sal will probably work too. XD Except for the obvious problem.

Yooooo big ups to a fellow Hellraiser (2022) enjoyer

Sajuuk-Khar

like it was very *different* Hellraiser from my very favorite, the second movie (“it is not HANDS that call us…it is…DESIRE”) but it was really good and god I need to see more of Jamie Clayton’s version of Pinhead

That sounds awesome! Also, thought everyone might like to know that Asma's good advice pertaining to Joyce and Dorothy made it into my dreams yesterday. With them on a mission to do.... something I don't remember... they are getting distracted again. And of the two, it's JOYCE who's trying to get them to focus again, with Dorothy having a little more trouble doing so.
