THAT WAS LOAD-BEARING YURI

Astariel

They really are adorkable and I love it. Not looking forward to more protest stuff, though. Honestly, it would be pretty cool if somehow hooking up with someone caused a third party to renounce their religion. I would probably brag about that for the rest of my life. Not cool in these specific circumstances, though.

E

Something something pretty sure Joe was the tentpole for a bit there

Zane C

Dorothy really is a master at burying ledes

Lazuli

she was gonna find out sooner or later

Ragtime

I feel cheated out of a proper shocked Joyce face.

ArdieBea

We've yet to hear them talk about what's happened to Amber, too. Which isn't a consequence of their actions but I know Joyce will be concerned for her should she ever find out. Also, I want to hear more from radicalised Dorothy. Oh, and of course there's Joe...

Logibear

Dammit Dorothy. Becky was pretty clear that you doing your thing wasn't the cause of her issues

Sajuuk-Khar

We are now enmeshed in a genuinely terrible thorny political situation: Joyce sleeps Becky and Dina are splitsville: Real shit??!

Logibear

That being said, this was probably the most natural way to mention it to Joyce

ArdieBea

I'm sure her girlfriend has some ideas - probably starting with asking Asma about it, tonight at bowling.

Logibear

You get half of one at least

Laura

dear god, how I hope to one day enter a relationship that began with mutual pining. Incredibly adorkable. also, curiosity piqued by joyce’s second to last panel statement here. has she redirected public attention using a platform before?

Railway Series Book Club

this strip is really vindicating my stance re: "the protest stuff was mostly fine", bc this + the sequence with o'ryan existed before the rewrites and got across like, 80% of what i wanted, where "dorothy takes a look at their impact and framing as the main characters of that event and is like Hey That's Not Great, We Should Fix This", and then the rewrites added in the missing 20% where "people besides our main characters have an opinion on this and are miffed about it" the Trust The Process mindset is once again winning!!! (for me at least)

Harold

"Good ol' Dorothy Keener... how [certain people] hate her!"

The Lesbians Who Killed God

Astariel

I think she's mentally shoving it to one side because she has no idea what to do with it, but it isn't of immediate importance.

Joyce: NOOO, THEY'RE MY FAVORITE COUPLE!

Kelly (they-them)

While Dorothy and Joyce are now the faces of the protest (Or the obscured view of heads of the protest), I'm not sure how much of a platform they actually have. I agree with Dorothy's concerns, but I'm not sure how they could address them. Oh, actually, she and Joyce could offer to do an interview for the paper. Or Dororhy could write an article about it. I think that easily runs the risk of once again centering them, so they should seek guidance from others more practiced in activism (like Asma) and then take care to decenter their own experiences at the protest.

Kelly (they-them)

Oh, I am oh so glad Dorothy told Joyce about Becky and am VERY EAGER to see how this is resolved. I very much hope that Jocelyne is involved :D

Kelly (they-them)

I think Joyce is employing irony and does not actually know how to do that nor find it manageable

Kelly (they-them)

And Joyce has been cheated out of her favorite couple, Future Wives

5099 5618 v2.0

@Sajuuk-Khar Of course. One is structural. One is personal. Joyce has her priorities.

@Zane C Headcannon: they will eventually own a device they call "The Lede"

@AE Gonzalez Or just woke up. Or is wearing tight jeans.

I was just thinking of that proverb yesterday, noting that the comic had a veritable centipede's worth of shoes we're waiting to hear drop.

Girlycore

D&J could use their "you owe us one for outing us on the front page of your paper" token with Daisy to get her to interview someone with actual stake and something to say about the protests. Preferably by first checking with that person and making sure they want to do an interview.

Shane Wegner

What I literally saw was “Dina said she (entirely fairly) doesn’t enjoy feeling like a silver medal, and that’s a Becky issue to work out.” I didn’t hear a definite “we’re broken up” in there, although if Becky leaves it at that it will default to one as Becky shows disinterest by her inaction.

Shane Wegner

Dorothy mentally framed other peoples’ problems as her responsibility? She does that.

Shane Wegner

There are ~183 countries, it’s hard to care about very many of them.

Maude Reads Things

Yeah I feel like that'll get more freak outs, if only because it's more personal.

Zesstra

I had a similar mindset. When a year of comics only progresses three or four days of time, one has to be patient.

Zesstra

Paraphrasing a recent comment accompanying the strip: "that was my emotional support yuri!"

Zesstra

"She got religious trauma in my queer relationship!" "She got a queer relationship on my religious trauma!"

Daniel Adams

This strip admittedly summarizes my own annoyance with these two at this time. Time for them to handle damage control

joe mcguire

Yes, honestly, focus on Becky. I feel like the more you get involved with the protests and the public discourse, the more it’s just gonna get muddied. I get why you feel bad, and honestly you did screw up, but sometimes the best way to fix a screw up is to step back and let it work itself out. Sometimes if you try to untangle a knot you just make it worse. The Becky situation on the other hand I think could benefit from some direct action and conversation. Talk it out. You’re much more qualified to have an empathetic discussion with your friend than you are to redirect public discourse on international politics.

Harold

I feel obligated to note that I had *not*, in fact, seen panel 6 of this strip before inadvertently spoiling it in one of my comments on the last one.

Heatth

I don't blame Dorothy for leading with the protest photo thing. It is not as personal to them, but it is still important and need to be thought about. If she had mentioned Becky first there is no way Joyce would have even listened to the other point, much less process it.

Railway Series Book Club

Alternatively to Daisy, Jocelyne just-so-happens to be a journalist who could work with them!

Mitzi B.

Focusing on Becky also gives us an opportunity to see Joyce, Lesbian Love Sleuth back at work!

CoreyWW

Joyce: “Well the writings on the wall, time to fuck Becky for my former religion, I guess!” Dorothy: “Joyce the issue is kinda a lot more complicated than that—“ Joyce: “Oh right, Dina, of course. Do I have to have sex with her too? Because I don’t know if I know enough about dinosaurs currently to make that happen!” Dorothy: “Joyce. Focus.”

Lea

I mean, she might have originally considered that when had a friend who used a platform to redirect public attention, just last semester! ...oops. That was Becky.
