Dumbing of Age Book 16: [Dinosaur Fact I Will Look Up Later]

DustyMarie53

[witty comment I will look up a punchline for later]

LupinThe8th

BURRITO FILLING. If it's all wrapped up in a tortilla, then she can't see that there are multiple foodstuffs in there touching, it all just registers as BURRITO FILLING. Note the closed eyes as she bites into it, so she can't see the contents.

Dan Rabin

Almost as if Joyce thinks she's writing a comic with her friends inserted as characters.

Sajuuk-Khar

Another foolproof plan from the Lesbian Love Sleuth I bet if you wear a cool hat and adjust your entrance to say “Now, COUNT UP YOUR SINS! (There’s just one, it’s breaking up with Becky)” it’ll be even better

Megh

joynk is just having a burrito dorpy is having a crunchwrap, the best item in the menu further proof she's smarter, not that we needed more

Astariel

A brilliant, and no doubt foolproof, plan.

ArdieBea

So much fundie yet to be fucked from her.

Sajuuk-Khar

she’s the fucking stupidest and I love her

LupinThe8th

I've given up 90% of fast food, but ngl, about once a month I need a crunchwrap. Luckily the nearest Taco Bell is just far enough away to be inconvenient, so I don't give in very often. But it just so happens to be located next to my barber, so for the past several years I've had the mental association that getting a haircut means getting a crunchwrap.

Logibear

The supposition that Dina would not be able to detect an ambush from a non-dromaeosaurid is foolhardy and laughable. She would have to enlist Dorothy to engage in conversation while she snuck into position to stand a chance.

Harold

I love that Dina, in this fantasy scenario, is wearing a shirt that just says "DINOSAURS." Reminds me of Steve Buscemi in the 21 JUMP STREET parody/"How do you do, fellow kids?" cut-in from 30 ROCK wearing a T-shirt that says "MUSIC BAND."

Emily Lamont

I wish I were you. I eat that shit too much lol.

Logibear

"Work, work, work" - Dorothy

Fart Captor

It's just dumb enough to not work even a little bit but be very adorable

Sajuuk-Khar

no YOU watch too much Kamen Rider

Astariel

Also goes along with Joyce writing 'ROBOTS' on Walky's shirt, when she was trying to get him together with Amber.

Sajuuk-Khar

Also I love that Joyce’s imaginary compelling words of power are enough to immediately get Dina in the mood for bridal gowns in velociraptor patterns

Smoochie

If anything I don’t watch enough Kamen Rid— Oh that was rhetorical.

Sajuuk-Khar

I like to imagine it’s a Grilled Cheese Burrito, shit is so cash

Annie

Oh good heavens, she's now picked up Dorothy's tendency to want to fix the problems of others.

5099 5618 v2.0

@MGC Do not try to determine what is in the burrito. That is impossible. Instead, realize the truth: that there *is* no burrito...

Harold

"It's so dumb it's brilliant." "NO! It's just DUMB!"

Maude Reads Things

...Oh dear. Joyce, you mean well, but you are probably one of the last people Dina wants to hear from right now. Duck and cover, girl.

Harold

"Mornin', Joyce"

C Bonesmith

I think she's kind of always had that, especially when it comes to relationships. You don't become a lesbian love detective (the lesbian described love originally so I guess that makes her a bisexual lesbian love detective) without wanting to fix other people's problems!

Wednesday Sophia

Oh thank goodness, now i have nothing to worry about 🙏

Sumit

That dinosaur fact was just so compelling

Gwen R

All I can picture is Dina using her usual powers to do the Death Note meme. "Well played, Joyce, but you are too slow. Now I am the one standing behind you."

Shane Wegner

“Typically you say awkward things which infuriate me” is higher-than-average Joyce self awareness, as she’s narrating this scenario.

darklion

All problems solve themselves when you're in love.

Logibear

But yeah. Without first trying to repair her own relationship with Becky (which will take more than one sit down and heart to heart), this will likely be fruitless to attempt. But gosh would it be interesting to watch

Logibear

She's had the tendency to fix peoples relationship problems before. She just often doesn't have the associated guilt that Dorothy brings to the table.

Steve McSheffrey

I'm trying to figure out what Joyce is eating. It kinda look like she's licking something rathe rthan eating.

Rob McBobson

Okay, now I'm getting worried for real. I wasn't sure that Dina and Becky were "never ever getting back together" (to quote that rock 'n' roll lady that all the kids seem to be into). Not at first. But when them being reunited is treated as a joke by the narrative, I'm gonna need a cup of tea. Even though I know that what's being treated as a joke is, more specifically, them being reunited in this way by this person.

Jasmijn Wellner

TIL [Dinosaur fact I will look up later]

Rob McBobson

So that's where that meme comes from. Thanks, Harold! I never bothered looking it up.

The Deliberate Myth

I read the entirety of the blue imagined part in Starfire's voice.

The Deliberate Myth

I am largely indifferent towards Taco Bell these days. I am supremely impressed with the use of "joynk" and "dorpy". Made me chortle.

Smoochie

It will be one of the most eloquent verbal tear downs of Joyce or a lot of snarling. There may not be any in between

tifani

Yeah sure Joyce distract yourself with this rather than dealing with anything else more important or pressing or directly involving you. If Joe doesn’t show up and they don’t have some kind of interaction soon I am going to lose my shit. Every day I show up thinking that maybe finally that dangling plot point will be dealt with and every fucking day it’s anything and everyone else but that. And I keep thinking that there has to be a reason for Willis to drag it out this long and NO the answer is NOT “Joyce is done with Joe” because she’s NOT AND THAT WOULD BE TOO SIMPLE. I feel like there has to be a payoff but it has taken waaay way waaaaaaay too long to happen and I can NOT focus on anything else going on anymore because everything else now feels like a distraction. Resolve this plot point I beg of you. It’s the only dangling plot thread left and I need it dealt with. Please! It’s been over two months 😭 Free me from this mental prison. Anyway I’m off to not comment again until he does show up (which will probably be extremely soon since it is the only real dangling thread left and Willis probably has a check list and I am just being super impatient but I never claimed I was a patient person) and I am finally FREED.

tifani

Anyway commenting on Dina and Becky I do think this is one of those break ups where the couple just spends some time apart, grows, and then gets back together on their own. I don’t think anyone but Becky and Dina are needed to make this happen. Becky seems to already be on the path towards the necessary growth. So basically: this is not your problem to solve Joyce. Go deal with the shit that is actually your shit.

Zesstra

Dorothy's face selling very well the thought "I love this woman so much that I find this idea adorable rather than unhinged"

Harold

@Zesstra: Or adorably unhinged

Rob McBobson

The only dangling plot thread left? Oh, friend, have you forgotten Asma and the bowling game? And Amber's state of health? And Becky yesterday, needing to speak with her elder? I can't know for sure, but I'm strongly suspecting it'll take at least until real-life school starts again after winter break until Joe shows up.

Andrea Andrew

If Joyce decides to give up teaching (which she probably already has) and Dorothy decides that detective work is more fulfilling than activism, they could start a detective agency together.

Amós Batista

Joyce's thoughts being Willis's sketchs makes all sense

Fart Captor

I feel like "wanting to help them fix their problems" is a pretty common and normal aspect of being really good friends with someone?? And Joyce's BEST friend is hurting, so of course she wants to help, whether or not that's actually feasible

tifani

The only major dangling plot line left how about that? Literally everything else you brought up can be dealt with later. We don’t need to rush into Becky’s talk with Leslie. We’ve seen Amber in recovery multiple times. How many times do we need to be reminded she’s in pain and healing? The Asma bowling thing is not an immediate priority at all. The most pressing plot thread that has been avoided is Joe. Talking to Joe. Joyce talking to Joe and then potentially Dorothy talking to Joe with Joyce. I cannot be the only one over this being avoided. It’s beyond time. I’m honestly starting to get the impression a huge portion of the audience is as afraid of this talk happening as Joyce is with how much justification gets pulled as to why it hasn’t happened yet or doesn’t need to. It’s been MONTHS. IT’S TIME. And yeah it’s probably going to be a whole thing because it should be after this much build up. And once it finally happens I can stop WAITING for it to happen and know peace.

Harold

Narrator: "tifani could, in fact, be the only one"

tifani

The only two members of this cast qualified to be detectives are Booster and Dina.

tifani

@Harold How is that possible!? It’s just THERE! UNRESOLVED!

tifani

So what when a movie’s too slow you guys don’t just start fast forwarding or listen to audiobooks at 2x speed? (Starts crying) “Everything takes too long to happen!” I am too potentially adhd for this shit. Being serious though I have GOT to stop reading this daily. I think checking back in once a month or something is probably best for my sanity/enjoyment.

Minzoku Bokumetsu

why would qualifications stop ANYBODY look at the president 😒

MrShoggoth

The only time I fast-forward through a movie is when I’ve watched it enough times to recite more than 50% of the dialogue back at the screen… and even then I’m still probably going to watch the full thing

Darastrix

I would eat Taco Bell much more often had I not discovered that you can get a case of Baja Blast from the grocery store, so now I only get it when I have a legit craving for a crunchwrap. I still miss the double decker taco, though.

Calder Johnson

I mean, after that last interaction with Jennifer, I'm fairly certain that Joyce is going to put off talking to Joe as long as she humanly can. Other predictions I'm willing to make at this point is that when she eventually does, she's going to trip and fall on his penis THEN put off talking to Dorothy for as long as she humanly can. So my estimation of a swift and tidy resolution of this particular plot point is uh....not high.

Zoya

would be funnier if this was something that joyce actually drew out on paper and was showing to dorothy lol like the plan was so powerful she had to bring it to life in order to properly communicate it

Dmitri0240

The joke isn't that they'd get back together; the joke is Joyce is trying to figure out how to do it herself but she's can't because it's entirely in Becky's and Dina's court.
