C

Devious Joyce has her moments.

Sajuuk-Khar

GOD THAT PERFECT DOMME FACE HAHAHAHA GET HER BONY ASS, JOYCE, GET IT AND PUT IT ON A LEASH

Dedi Variety VODS

DAMN Joyce. Going in guns blazing huh? I love this new side of her honestly. She's literally me when I first found out I was gay, except WAY more upfront about it. You go girl, get your woman

Astariel

Tell her, Dorothy!

Andrea Andrew

This is a nice way to grow in their relationship and nice and hilarious to see them do sexy teasing.

MST3K.fan: The Cheesy Movie Essays

I love that last panel. Absolutely hysterical. I don’t have a guess. In the strip’s first year though. So in volume 1: “This campus is a friggin’ Escher Print” somewhere.

Rubia

And here we have Joyce demonstrating the importance of asking the proper question to gain a desired response...

jafortee

what a great opportunity to use a recursive binary search

Gale Tazzin

the lunch date with Jacob and Raidah

Harold

"That's my secret, Joyce - I'm alw--" "Oh, no! You are *not* going to Hulk-quote your way out of this one!"

Logibear

Dorothy brings the Ying (grounded rational approach to emotional responses) and Joyce brings the Yang (using her crotch like an angle grinder)

Alright, place your bets. What does everyone think the moment was?

Railway Series Book Club

DOROTHY'S REACTION IS GIVING ME LIFE i'm also deeply curious what dorothy's answer is, if anything, bc i'm genuinely struggling to think of an instance where i'd be like "oh yeah, it's obviously that." when she got the tittypic in 15-2? the longing stare at joyce on the treadmill in 14-2?? when carla made reference to joyce's jugs in 12-4??? all of those feel way too late in the game to be super satisfying answers to "when did you first fantasize about me sexually" so i'd love to be proven wrong and learn some secret dorothy secrets

Andrew

When Willis drew said moment, did he know?

Logibear

"Tell Me" Joyce Dumbledore asked calmly

Nicholas A. Jalowick

That panel 4 Joyce face is amazing. Just impossible levels of sexy smug there XD

C

Possibly, Willis has been at least thinking about their romance since before the time skip, according to past posts on the subject here IIRC.

Morgan Byrd

I think we have achieved peak hornt

5099 5618 v2.0

Dorothy: I DONT KNOW! I SWEAR TO GOD-- Joyce: SWEAR TO ME!

5099 5618 v2.0

@Astariel Disagree. That was the moment she allowed herself to let Joyce know she wanted her, IMHO. I think the moment Joyce wants to know about was earlier.

Ben Wray

I assume Sal is no longer here since they seem to have transitioned from bowling to sitting at a table for two but it's kind of funny to imagine her just off-panel, sighing deeply as she listens to this conversation.

Astariel

I have trouble believing that Dorothy could think about being grinded on by Joyce before realizing she was attracted to her, without immediately realizing she was attracted to her.

HenryVolt

"This privileged information, you haft to reach security level 5."

Maude Reads Things

Nooooope, sorry, Dorothy, too late to bullshit that one

Gwen Sanger

New favorite Joyce Face has dropped

Tessea

No more sugar for that girl!! Also, I think panel 4 has to be the most smug/confident (Confismug? Smugfident?) face we've ever seen on Joyce, and that includes when she was taunting Walky.

MrShoggoth

At this rate there’s a new one every week

Andrea Andrew

Dorothy needs to remember some girls she crushed on in high school, Joyce. And no, you probably weren’t there. Probably.

Dan Rabin

1. I always love it when comic artists play with the mechanics of the medium, as in the final frame today, where the speech balloons, the edges of the panel, and the size of the lettering all come into play as Joyce triples down on the sexual-attraction angle. 2. There is also Dorothy's lip-bite wrinkles enlarging along with her grimace between panels 5 and 7. Her eyes migrate away from Joyce as she channels her inner flatfish. 3. I've been trying to characterize the different views Dorothy and Joyce have of their relationship. Both today and in the "Bedtime!" strip, Joyce has wanted to turn activity or discussion to the sexual, and Dorothy has resisted. Dorothy is no prude, but Joyce is not her only sex partner ever, so sex can't be the unique defining characteristic of the relationship for her. But Joyce has also been sexual with Joe, and she enjoyed it with him, and also with Dorothy. I tentatively conclude (please argue) that Joyce sees sex as a wonderful enhancer of her existing relationship with Dorothy. She also likes the idea of being alluring, to both her partners.

Shane Wegner

Dorothy doesn’t enthusiastically consent to answering this question right now. Maybe later.

5099 5618 v2.0

@Astariel It is a bit of a paradox, isn't it

AE Gonzalez

Background looks different than in the preview panels. Now I wanna know the story behind that.

Dan Rabin

Since the preview was given the date 2026-01-26, and the strip will actually run on 2026-02-17, the conversation could have been written before the insertion of the Asma arc (sorry, I've lost the pointer to Willis's statement about this) changed the schedule, and perhaps changed the location to the bowling alley. Just a guess.

Harold

@MrShoggoth: Every *panel*, even

Harold

Schrodinger's Hornt

thejeff

I don't know. I'd find this kind of thing really awkward. Especially with Joyce just pushing so hard on the "it started when I first saw you" thing. Does Dorothy have to live up to those unrealistic expectations to satisfy Joyce? If it was last week rather than last semester, how will she react? Be interesting though to turn it back on her? When did Joyce first think about it? Since we've actually seen less of Joyce realizing she was actually attracted to Dorothy.

DramaQueen

Very much Blake Lively in A Simple Favor.

Joyce uses Assertiveness and it's super effective!!

The Joyce has assumed full sexual dominance over the Dorothy.

Dumbing of Age, Book 16: It's Normal and Realistic to Want This

5099 5618 v2.0

@BBCC Turns out there's scientific research that shows people react differently to things they've [ seen | experienced | recognize ] than things that are entirely [ new | unfamiliar ] to them. If you want to test what Joyce did in this strip in real life (and also get a sense of the soul of the person you're talking to), show an anime fan a piece of paper with the word "Urotsokidoji" on it and ask them if it is spelled correctly. The way their face changes (and whether or not they can provide the correct spelling of the word without looking it up) will provide you with quite a lot of useful and interesting information, IMHEX.

David M Willis

probably don't want to have another joyce/dorothy cover SO soon after book 14, but

tifani

I think the drinking night was the night that started it all but I also think Joyce needs to fucking CHILL.

tifani

All this dissecting and hyperfocusing like I get it her new special interest is this relationship but it’s exhausting to pick apart every single moment up until this moment. Stop interrogating your fucking girlfriend. It’s like she can’t trust that these feelings are real until she’s broken them down to the most minute detail. Maybe she doesn’t trust her own feelings? Maybe she doesn’t trust her own desire? Maybe she’s just that disconnected from herself which could be an ex cult thing or an autistic thing or both. Not to mention newly bisexual and not wanting to figure out what the fuck that means. But your own desire and Dorothy’s own desire are not mysteries to be solved. They exist. The evidence is there even if you can’t pinpoint the exact moment they switched from platonic to romantic.

tifani

It’s kind of crazy that Asma just left. Sal dropped the bomb that Danny and Walky are pissed (something that would very much bother Dorothy if not Joyce but I think the Walky thing will bother Joyce more than she realizes if she lets herself think on it…so she won’t.) and then just left and Dorothy and Joyce decided to actually stay at the bowling alley and grab food and then presumably not talk about any of that. These two LOVE to compartmentalize.

tifani

Also this conversation becomes very weird in the context of everything else that just happened. Asma runs away. Sal peaces out. Uncomfortable feelings are brought up and then they just opt to chow down and hyperfocus on how cute they find each other? Or at least this is what Joyce decides the conversation is going to focus on. I really think if Sal had mentioned Joe and everything Joe said this is still the way this conversation would be going. Every time these two are alone together the primary focus becomes distraction from discomfort. It’s like they’re on the run. And I think they are and I think it’s Joyce pulling Dorothy by the hand. I think she’s convinced herself if she slows down with this for even a second she’ll die.

tifani

That being said Joyce’s face in the last panel is very funny. She looks like pac man.

Harold

@tifani: And, like Pac-Man, she has an insatiable hunger to devour... things. Also, per your comment directly before that, I'm reminded that there's a preview panel (dated around July 4 of this year) depicting Joyce *literally* pulling Dorothy by the hand, seemingly running away from something that Dorothy looks like she very much wants to address.

Kevin Ryan

Joyce doesn’t trust anything unless or until she’s broken it down to the most minute detail. This is just consistency.

The other Alan

Upon reflection, though, while it was subconsciously in the exercise room, she didn't let it hit until the conversation with Joe about having a thing for Joyce. At that point the floodgates opened.

Harold

"I- I can't pinpoint the *specific* moment where I first thought about your body grinding on my face-- I mean-- I mean--" "Ah-HA!"

Girlycore

I mean she's had sex since then, the fountain holds no horrors for her now.

Girlycore

All I'm hearing is that it's Joyce's turn.

meh

willis you know we're gonna need hi-res of panels 5 & 7 when this hits the main site right? need to meme panel 7 at people every time i'm demanding details now, and panel 5 is just fantastic dorothy
