Astariel

I love Dorothy's checklists, and I love Joyce's absolute certainty in their relationship.

Kelly (they-them)

This reminds me of the bookmark strip where Becky's like, "You can't plan for EVERYTHING, Dotty," as she knocks Dorothy's checklist out of her hand. Immediately her eyes fall upon the entry, "Becky knocks list out of my hands"

C

"Maybe you should try a list too. I can come up with a list of things to add to your list."

Logibear

Why am I getting an ominous feeling about Joyce going to class alone?

Harold

Professor Brock: "Ah! Good morning, Ms. Brown. You've arrived earlier than usual." Joyce: "Yes, I'm trying to avoid... stuff." Joe, Becky, and Dina [in unison upon walking in]: "Hi, we're stuff."

Lazuli

"my plan to avoid joe is foolproof! and nothing can go wrong!"

Maude Reads Things

You see, there's not a doubt in my mind that it actually is on the list

Jennifer Novelli

Because Joyce would happily walk through Crime Alley if no one was around to stop her.

Jennifer Novelli

So, Dorothy is having doubts. She was going to anyway, but they're bubbling to the surface quicker than I anticipated...

Jennifer Novelli

"Ms. Brown, these are very important pies! Don't let anything happen to them."

Lazuli

how long do you think before she has the "did we rush into this?" thought

Jennifer Novelli

This is why Walky was good for her. He knew she had a problem!

Jennifer Novelli

Speaking from experience, your girlfriend cosplaying as her own OC isn't as sexy as it should be...

Jennifer Novelli

The real over/under is does she have it before she sees Walky or Raidah again?

Logibear

If her brain is anything like mine, then it was likely playing on repeat consistently and loudly from the moment it became a reality.

Lazuli

im gonna hedge a bet on walky

Jennifer Novelli

No doubt, but she's remarkably good at compartmentalizing thoughts until she's directly confronted about them. Raidah didn't convince her not to pursue the presidency, she just repeated her own internalized conflict back to her.

Lazuli

"oh no the pies! who could have seen this coming!"

Jennifer Novelli

@Lazuli I'm taking the longshot on Roz being the one to completely wreck her shit! 😉

Lazuli

oh that is diabolical. now i hope so too lmao

E

Oh no I forgot about that. Hoping the incelerator and got-glassed guy aren’t afoot.

Sajuuk-Khar

“Also on the list is a block of time for dealing with dramatic occurrences when at least one of the people you’re trying to no-contact in Biology messes up your plan and gets to talk to you.” “Well strike THAT, Dorothy, we aren’t going to need it.”

Tessea

"You dare to doubt my neurotic... *cough* my organizational list making skills?"

Logibear

"But I spent 2 hours making slides and a puppet presentation..."

Harold

@E: "Got-glassed guy" a/k/a Ryan is probably still in the hospital, and even if he isn't, he's surely in no condition to be "afoot." Also, have we forgotten that until Amber put Ryan out of commission, Joyce was psychologically incapable of walking anywhere alone? She comes across as fearless/heedless *now*, but it took a long time for her to get here.

HenryVolt

We've all had our different opinions recently about these two one way or another. But here's my take, there's nothing wrong with falling in love, the problem was they took the love they already had for granted. Maybe that's not a popular take but how else can you look at this? It's interesting when you think about how it only took just a couple of days for Joyce to go from having nothing but "love" for Joe to treating him how he was always afraid she treat him, like a mistake she rather not think about because it fills her with nothing but shame.

tifani

Joyce is going to run into Joe on her way to biology class and end up not going. She is not going to be back in an hour. Dorothy is going to be convinced something terrible has happened. Joyce is gonna fuck Joe.

5099 5618 v2.0

@Logibear I suspect mentioning puppets would provoke a hyperfocus trance, if Dorothy said it.

5099 5618 v2.0

Also, that list reads like a list of the locations of drama tags. Not an exhaustive one, but still.

tifani

And horniness.

Jennifer Novelli

And they're being really annoying about it to everyone, which doesn't help their case.

tifani

Fingers crossed

tifani

Also the constant overdramatic declarations of their love is a bit much. “I would tear down the world for you” Girl, this relationship is THREE DAYS OLD and you are leaving for a 50 minute class. Honestly this is partly why I’m so convinced she’s fucking Joe in the next hour. The amount of pressure being put on the importance of this is too much.

Shane Wegner

I think my wish in this scenario is even if Joyce was into it, Joe takes the ethical poly route and says “Not until I know Dorothy’s on board, you went through too much”.

Simon Magid

well somebody start pulling them already.

tifani

He was really good at calming her anxiety and getting her to slow the fuck down. She really, really fucked up with that. Honestly out of this entire situation when I really think about it. I think Dorothy’s treatment of Walky might be the thing I’m most mad about. I was never super into the pairing but over time I think Willis did a really good job of showing why it was good for Dorothy. That she would disregard him like this after everything is fucked up. It doesn’t matter that it was four days long reunion and a rebound from Lucy. After everything they’d meant to each other Dorothy owed him better than this. And in the aftermath she seems to be bending over backwards to offer Becky what she should have given him meaning a real apology not that fucked up break up Joyce did and Dorothy allowed. I really hope for once Walky decides to let himself actually be angry about this and be angry at Dorothy.

5099 5618 v2.0

Also: nice jacket, Joyce. Is that new? Does it have a scrap of fabric from Sal's jacket sewn into the lining? Update: for a second I thought this was the first time she'd worn it to class, but the archives proved me wrong. It definitely does seem to serve as psychic armor, tho, as she's had it on when she went to talk to Dina (and Joe was still in the room...).

5099 5618 v2.0

Hey, out of curiosity, if Anti-Joyce showed up, how would we know it was her? I mean, I think we're expecting sleeveless shirts, but besides that.

Empress of Robots

Everyone get your “I failed Bio because Joyce fucked Dorothy and all I got was this lousy t-shirt” shirts ready!!!

5099 5618 v2.0

@Shane Wegner Y'know, at this phase of his development, I think he might actually be capable of that. I think Roz would have opinions on how the situation is being handled by all involved [1]. Part of me hopes she and Joe would spend the rest of that day cuddling up and talking through the situation, very deliberately not having sex at any point in the process [2] [3]. _____ [1] - and probably also a curated reading list on the subject of ENM-related ethics tuned to each person involved. [2] - And also educating Joe on aftercare and how he deserves that, too. [3] - Bonus if she decides to invite everyone to a board game night, after that. Poly people love [ (talking about) | (processing the feelings that arise as a result of) ] having sex almost as much as board games, after all.

Jennifer Novelli

Yeah, if this were a shonen anime, Walky would definitely be in his rights to kung-fu fight Joyce until she either apologizes or recognizes his basic humanity, which it's kinda fucked up she's never done, now that I think about it.

Edwin I Callahan

That was a very well constructed one off strip. It stood alone but had 15 years of setup behind it.

Kelly (they-them)

Do you think regular Joyce would still murder Anti-Joyce? If so, being dead would be one distinction

5099 5618 v2.0

@Kelly (they-them) Nah, I think anti-Joyce would be an attempt at assuming an alter-ego that gets out of hand, or possibly a fugue-state response to some outside-context problem, like Joyce's own Tyler Durden. So, maybe? But Capt. Grey might already be that for her, and I can't imagine her wanting to take her out. Having that character have to reckon with her antithesis as a way of dealing with her own issues might work, tho.
