Empress of Robots

You will get your butt to Bio class right now, Joyce, because we have all been waiting since July for this slow-moving traincrash to reach the station!

Jennifer Novelli

Oh Joyce, nothing good ever comes from not just waiting for the elevator...

SmurfJuice

aw fuck i hope that one commenter wasn't right about her next move

Logibear

yuuuuuussssss..... Soooo the Drama!!!

Kazo

This is gonna end awesomely and in disaster. Yes, both.

Sajuuk-Khar

Paranoia Paranoia Everybody’s comin to get me Just say you never met me

Logibear

Unless we're all being silly about Joyce just deciding to take the stairs instead

The25th

I don’t think this is her running away and not going to class. I think this her going to confront the problem now and stop delaying and pushing it off. And if I’m wrong oops

Harold

Next panel: Joyce steps outside after walking downstairs, only to find Joe, Becky, and Dina waiting for her so they can all walk to class together. Extremely awkwardly.

SmurfJuice

run for fun? where's the fun in that?

Astariel

Going to talk to Joe or Becky? My guess is Joe.

SmurfJuice

just because you're out to get them doesn't mean you're not paranoid

Rob McBobson

Willis, I am not a rich man, but I do have enough organs that selling the ones I can live without will net at least $1,000 and if you add a two days ahead-tier I will make it worth your while.

Sajuuk-Khar

Ignore the Kill Bill “Ironsides” riff playing in the background

Sajuuk-Khar

you KNOW you got to give me my drama!!

Logibear

*monkey paw curls* - granted, but next strip is the beginning of a 5 strip long arc with Mary going about her day. (I struggled thinking of anyone that I wouldn't currently be happy seeing as there are so many wonderful spinning plates at the moment)

tifani

I am holding back my reaction for now because this has been dragged out long enough I know better than to get excited. But if I am right about what happens next I reserve the right to become a monster. I have been talked down to too many times over the last few months by a lot of smug assholes to deny myself that catharsis.

Harold

@Sajuuk-Khar: Joyce: "I wanna publish zines!" Dorothy: "And rage against machines!"

AE Gonzalez

She’s gonna tell Dorothy the truth about the Joe Situation.

tifani

God I fucking hope not. I want her to talk to Joe first. Dorothy can wait. Dorothy has been her top priority for months now. It’s his turn.

Logibear

*Joe opens door* "Alright, I've put it off long enough, I'm sorry Joe, you're a delight and worth more to me than you'll ever know but I can't. I love Dorothy too much, I can't continue a relationship with you" "That's cool. Thanks for being up front about that and I appreciate you taking your time to get your head around this before letting me know" *5 Second Pause* *Jumps his bones*

tifani

And she hasn’t gone about any of this in the right order anyway so why start now?

Rob McBobson

Me, I'm happy as long as she talks to somebody about it.

voyager-ngc5195

She's off, determined to right the wrongs done in the Residence Hall by filling the whiteboards with all manner of surprisingly-anatomically correct vajayjays.

Logibear

Walky strolls past "Why are these so familiar?"

tifani

I’m not. It has to be specifically Joe. I’m tired of waiting. I don’t want her to interact with anyone else for the remainder of this storyline until she talks to Joe. I don’t actually care about anything else going on right now except for her talking to Joe. Once that happens we can move forward but I am sick of this being dragged out. It’s gone on long enough.

tifani

I don’t want to pop in on Alice or check on Amber or catch up with Sal or follow Dorothy or peek in on Dina. I don’t want to see a single other character right now. I want Joyce to go to Joe’s room on purpose and talk to him. He is a major character in this comic and I want him back in it.

Sajuuk-Khar

Danny: “Who’s drawing Dorothy’s lady bits on everyone’s whiteboard?!” Sal: “…Ah dunno but you get that marker an’ we’re fixin’ it t’look like mine for some of ‘em.”

Kelly (they-them)

Very excited to see the next strip. So many possibilities!

Maude Reads Things

The thing that worries me is that Willis has said he's wanted to do specifically an affair storyline. Now maybe I just live under a rock and don't know how the average person defines things but kissing at a rally and then promising to talk the next day does not an affair make.

Lazuli

hmmmmmmmmmm

Ragtime

Night guy Faces his newest foe: The Whiteboard Capoodle Bandit!

Irene Knapp

tonally it does kind of feel like the story has been setting up for something we as the audience haven't been in the loop about to be deeply, profoundly wrong. like everything's been so upbeat...

tifani

What I could easily see happening is Joyce starting things up with Joe again with him assuming Dorothy is aware of and agreeing to be in a poly relationship and at the same time continuing to let Dorothy believe she’s broken up with Joe.

Julian Williams

Becky or Joe. I guess we're getting this conversation.

Logibear

Next three strips are just Joyce skipping Bio in the Laundry Room.

Dan Rabin

Little detail: Joyce presses the down button in panel 1, and it remains lighted for the rest of the strip. She is going somewhere on the floor, and not to class, and there's at least one person on the floor she doesn't want to be seen by. For me, the beauty and the wonder of the acting in this wordless strip outweigh not knowing what's next.

Preventer Wind

I may be genuinely bad at a reading pace and direction of the comic, but all I took from this was ‘God this elevator is taking forever. I left my room early to avoid people. Screw this elevator, people on my floor might catch up. I’m taking the stairs.” Or shorter: “This is taking too long, I don’t wanna see Dina and Becky, I’m taking the stairs.” I don’t see why Joe is particularly involved unless people are just being chaos gremlins. Which isn’t wrong.

Tessea

Alt title: 'The one in which Joyce nopes out of dealing with the consequences of her actions' I read this one as Joyce simply wanting to avoid Joe/Becky/Dina completely and is going to hide in her room.

tifani

The micro expressions on her face say she is contemplating something. The direction of her eyes says she is thinking about something she is leaving behind. The walking with intent and a balled up fist says she is leaving determined, on a mission. If the issue were the elevator taking too long you’d likely see Joyce doing something like repeatedly pressing the button or perhaps tapping her foot as if she were impatient with it. But the implication from what were being shown is that Joyce has decided to STOP avoiding something not continuing to do so and logically there’s only a few things it could be. a) talking to Dorothy about Joe. B) Talking to Becky about Dorothy and Dina or C) Talking to Joe. A is possible but not pressing. If this were a tv show Dorothy and Joyce have gotten the majority of screen time the past few months. Willis would be completely justified in not returning to these two together for a bit. B is possible because the last interaction being with Becky in the showers might make her the one currently on her mind but we have already seen Joyce and Dorothy each take time to try and talk to Becky and Dina. How many times can we have them do this without it becoming “here we go again?”. The thing about Joe is that he has been noticeably absent from the comic for the last few months in a way that only makes sense if Willis has been saving him for something. He is one of the major players in this entire cheating drama and we have spent next to no time with him since it happened. We’ve caught up with Walky, Dina, Becky, we have hyper focused on Joyce and Dorothy but Joe has been not spoken of, not lingered on. All of these signs only make sense from a writing perspective if Joe’s reintroduction to the story means another dramatic shift to the status quo. This talk that Joyce has been avoiding can not be some small thing. I wouldn’t be surprised if Willis did something similar to what Jeph Jacques did in his comic when (not to spoil too much) he spent a few weeks having Faye and Martin talking together in their living room about a major subject she’d obviously been working towards bringing up. So for at least a week I think we get Joyce and Joe talking and when this conversation is over the now established status quo of just Joyce/Dorothy is dramatically altered.

Lea

Maybe it's the hopeless optimist in me, but I had your same thought. It's mine now. Sorry. ;)

Lea

Main site comments are going to MELT DOWN over this. ::double checks her popcorn supply::

thejeff

The counter to needing to talk to Joe to move things forward is that if she is interested in poly, the next step is talking to Dorothy about it and we're back in the holding pattern. Unless she does just jump him, which would be wild, but I think is a long shot.

Harold

More next strip speculation: Joyce goes to Mary's room to clarify that she was not, in fact, baptizing Dorothy, and explains in excruciating detail exactly what they did to each other in the shower stall

Shane Wegner

How will you learn about gametes now?!

tifani

I will. KILL. EVERYTHING. if this!!!!!

tifani

No. She talks to Joe and THEN she talks to Dorothy. This has gone on too long to start operating under any kind of polite order on who ethically gets to know what in what order and for Joyce to decide she suddenly gives a fuck about that. She talks to Joe. She tells him she is interested in being poly and THEN she comes clean to Dorothy about never having broken up with Joe in the first place (BECAUSE SHE FUCKING DIDN’T and as of right now he is still one of her partners and he deserves a discussion that leads to the relationship continuing or ending) and having lied by omission and THEN Dorothy gets to decide if she’s interested in being in a polyamorous situation and if she says no and that Joyce has to choose then Joyce has to actually make that choice and live with it. If in the process of all this she fucks him then she fucks him. I don’t think Joe owes Dorothy any kind of waiting for her permission to hook up with Joyce. Joyce owes it to Dorothy but she can ask for forgiveness after the fact. If it happens it happens. And I don’t think Dorthy really gets to be that sad about it without coming off as a total hypocrite. She can be mad because she was mislead but if she starts going off about it cheating it will be pretty fucking ridiculous in a “you knew she was a snake when you picked her up” type of way.

tifani

Not that I’m calling Joyce or Dorothy snakes I just think expecting fidelity in a relationship that started with cheating is pretty fucking hilarious. Particularly when you are dating someone proven to have little to no impulse control since discovering the power of the orgasm. And I think Dorothy thinking Joyce would magically have just completely lost all feelings for Joe in this amount of time says something about the ego of Dorothy as well as Joyce enabling this with her “WE ARE THE GREATEST LOVE STORY OF ALL TIME” overcompensation. Dorothy knows this whole situation is off. That’s why she’s having doubts. If they can all just be normal with each other about how attraction and feelings work they can figure this out.

Gwen Sanger

Nah, that's a DETERMINATION look in panel 5 and a proper stride in 6. She's going to talk to Dorothy about Joe.

Tessea

I think that if Joyce is going to see Joe, she should bring Dorothy. (Unless she's going to just end it) If she's going to see Becky, then Dorothy should definitely _NOT_ be there. If she's going to talk to Dina, she should bring cereal and come up with some good questions to ask about how they get dinosaurs wrong in the movies. Plot twist: She's going to talk to Malaya for an outside and unbiased opinion on what she should do.

Amós Batista

I think I'm the only one who doesn't want to Joyce to go talk to Joe.

Rob McBobson

Okay, I admit you've caught my interest, so I'll bite. Why not?

tifani

Not according to Joyce.
