"which is WEIRD coming from me but HERE WE ARE... OTHER SISTER"

KittyKai

THE SISTERS ARE FIGHTINGGGGG

Andrea Andrew

Ohhh girl. Sarah never considered that.

Sajuuk-Khar

Comments section is at…3.6 roentgen. Not great, but not terrible.

Sajuuk-Khar

it is the quintessential Brown Child Dipshit Face

KiasyonSFM

He's still waiting on if Joyce still wants to be with him btw. And yes CHEATING is bad Jocelyn, no matter how good someone's market prospects are!!!!!!!!

Astariel

I really hope Sarah's not implying that she thinks the answer to that question is yes.

Empress of Robots

Sometimes Art (DoA the past few days) Imitates Life (the DoA comments section since July 2025).

Jayne Lindgren

"You don't understand, he became a better person for her! By the laws of romantic comedies, that means he gets first dibs on her lady parts,* no matter what she wants!" *The vagina and the heart

Harold

Amber: “Why am I suddenly craving sister-hatesex fanfiction?”

Logibear

Oh wow. They're both being silly little dicks here. Then again, the vibes that I'm getting from Joyce and Joe's interactions so far make me feel like these two might be arguing with incomplete information.

Railway Series Book Club

getting so mad about relationship impropriety you become an MRA about it many such cases (see Empress of Robots' comment above)

Harold

@Astariel: Same here, because if so, Jesus Christ, Sarah

Lazuli

Jocelyne.

TKAY

I hope people won't rush to bad-faith Sarah's words. I feel like it's clearly not about being "owed" Joyce's love, but the flippant disregard to other people's emotions by Jocelyne. "Oh he will manage well, he's hot", "back on the market" like he's a steak. Nah, the problem is not him finding a new girlfriend, but being cheated on by someone you love.

Sajuuk-Khar

The funniest possible outcome in the world would be if the polycule kicked off and no one fucking tells the older sisters jfgfhdtfffsss oh lord please

Empress of Robots

I think the thing that everyone is forgetting here is Jocelyne is fully formed adult in her mid/late 20s and Sarah is barely old enough to drink. If I 20/21 year old tried to lecture me on "relationship morality" (or any morality for that matter) when I was 26/27/28, I would have yeeted this hypothetical baby adult like that gif where Simba gets yeeted from the mountain into the Circle of Life. Really the big issue here is why can't we use gifs in the Patreon comments section?!

AE Gonzalez

“Stop fighting, I’ll date both of them.” “You’d do that for us?” “. . . Yes. . . . For you.”

Railway Series Book Club

somehow, paladins vs. sickos returned (i feel like that whole posting dichotomy has sorta died out in favor of a Theocracy Always Bad camp vs. a The Comic Is Good And Fun camp, which like. was basically what it always was tbh...)

Packy Anderson

I don't think she believes the answer is yes, but she does think he's owed SOMETHING. An apology? An explanation? Not to be treated like yesterday's trash?

voyager-ngc5195

...But the detector maxes out at 3.6 roentgen...

Corronchilejano

Joyce is finding out who she is, and Joe seems fine with it. Sarah seems to default to be against things more than for. If she wants to be there for Joe, she could. If she wants to be there for Joyce, she could. Why is she instead going against Jocelyne?

Gale Tazzin

makes me curious what Sarah subconsciously thinks SHE is entitled to for loving Joyce

Logibear

The answer is every comment section would just be headbanging Gandalf all day every day. To your point though, its the same in reverse. If a 25Plus-er came and effectively told me I was naive when I was 19/20/21 I would be putting up my conversational dukes as well. Not saying I'd be right in doing so, but gosh I would be feeling it

Star Ringer

Don't infantalize adults.

Sajuuk-Khar

It is very funny to me to say that either of them are totally mature, Fully Formed Adults that have all the adult functions It’s like showing off Data and Lore and going “see? Normal humans”

Logibear

We effectively have an "entitlement to love" civil war blow up and all of a sudden a backdrop of a polycule Romeo and Juliet and Julia plays out cocurrently? Absolute cinema

voyager-ngc5195

In defense of Sarah's sharp attitude, she hasn't been getting much sleep lately; the girls have not been *exceptionally quiet* about their nighttime activities...

Em

Jocelyn is a POS

Logibear

Yeah, the issue with the pacing of the strips is that we are literally in the middle of a conversation that is paced to provide punchlines... So having strong and immediate responses to unfinished points and claims is likely to happen, but an unfortunate byproduct of the media all the same.

TKAY

Because Jocelyne said something very insensitive? I won't argue about Joyce because I feel most defend her actions under the "self-discovery" rationale, which doesn't work for me. Cheating is not a self-discovery step. Joe doesn't seem fine with it to me, but it could be different ways of reading it tbh.

Em

Because Jocelyn is being extremely reductive and shitty, and Sarah has never shown that she’s just okay with stupidity like this right in her face.

Logibear

A Person of Science?

tifani

No Joe is not owed Joyce just because he loves her but he is owed a certain degree of respect and compassion because he’s a human being with feelings who did absolutely nothing to deserve being cheated on and (as far as Joss and Sarah know) discarded. And considering Joyce is very new to relationships and romance Jocelyne should be encouraging her sister to treat her partners the way she’d expect Joyce’s partners to treat her: with respect and care.

Sajuuk-Khar

It’s FINE, comrade, everything is FINE! There is NO GRAPHITE ON THE ROOF!!!

Dmitri0240

Sarah was openly advocating for exactly this before she had exactly one positive conversation with Joe. And let's not forget that Joyce has only identified as gay since this happened, so Sarah's not just disregarding an adult's clearly-stated romantic preference, but her newly-found sexual orientation as well. Joycelyn doesn't need to be 100% perfect to make her more in the right than Sarah.

Sajuuk-Khar

I would say Tony and his Field Goal Scoring Talents (sexual) could help with that but I know our deeply neurotic overachiever misanthrope doesn’t want to impose for fear she Fucks Up

Mitzi B.

I want Sarah to win this verbal fight so bad.

Jayne Lindgren

I will say something positive: Sarah reiterating that Joyce is "our" sister does show that, no matter how this whole situation has strained their relationship, she does still care about Joyce. Which is nice; she's not going to drop their connection because of a rough patch.

Doki

@Dmitri0240 Admittedly Sarah wasn't there to hear it, but Joyce just made a joke about being bi a few strips ago.

Star Ringer

Man, I'm so glad everyone's extremely normal about this, it's so great to see people refraining from making sweeping judgments based on seconds-long snippets of conversations that necessarily need to each be structured with individual setup and payoff due to the medium through which it's being portrayed!

Star Ringer

this may be my evergreen comment hereforth

Mitzi B.

Jocelyn may be related by blood, but Sarah has hit a dude with a bat for Joyce.

Jayne Lindgren

I mean, Packy, he's gotten those things already. At this point, what does she think Joyce *should* do?

cat

this is expecting the white queer people who didn't understand why some fans were irritated by the comic using a genocide protest as a backdrop to girls kissing (a mistake Willis themself recognized as valid and has attempted to rectify) and decided Asma was just an evil homophobic Muslim for not liking Joyce and Dorothy to have compassion for a 20 year old black woman who's been cheated on in the past and is clearly projecting those messy emotions while also dealing with the fear that a close friend of hers that she lives with might be changing for the worse.

Sajuuk-Khar

Sarah please bring this up sffsdsdssfsdsddfff it’d be so messy but also hilarious?????

Sajuuk-Khar

Jocelyne: what do you fucking MEAN someone tried to DATE R— Sarah: GET A BAT AND SHOW ME WHAT YOU’RE ABOUT, WHITE GIRL

Mitzi B.

Eh, if the medium is too small and chopped-up to accommodate the story that's being told, that's kind of an issue

Railway Series Book Club

i think if joyce saw sarah and jocelyne making out she'd short-circuit trying to make her "sarah is my sister" thing even out with what she was seeing (this would also be what happens if sarah saw joyce and liz making out)

Sajuuk-Khar

She can if she brings up the bat thing!!!!

tifani

The conflict here really seems to be “Joyce is allowed to have FUN! She’s a KID! And none of this matters!” vs “Joyce needs to remember that other people have feelings and it’s not okay to just ignore that to do something just because you want to and it feels good”. And both older sisters are coming from backgrounds that make their current attitudes make complete sense. Jocelyne was raised in a restrictive cult and is embracing the joy of self discovery through breaking out of that and her transition. Sarah is a black woman on scholarship going into law. She has to be hyper aware of the importance of how you chose to conduct yourself and your relationships at all times. Both these insights are understandable and both these realities are true. In the grand scheme of things how important are these college romances? How many of them actually last? Joyce should be allowed to have fun and make mistakes and grow. But it is also true that decisions we make don’t exist in a vacuum. People matter. Actions have consequences. Once these two stop fighting they could give Joyce a much needed sister chat about finding necessary balance

Sajuuk-Khar

(She will also lose if she brings up the bat thing)

Mitzi B.

You're right, but in the meantime I want Jocelyne and Sarah to do some Street Fighter (Hallway Fighter?) shit to each other

David Webb

I read her original statement as trying to say “this is going to hurt him badly”, to which “oh so he’s owed?” is absolutely nasty

Fart Captor

Oh my god Em climb down out of your own ass

tifani

I’m also thinking now about how Sarah has lived with the reality of what gaining a reputation as being someone who treats people as discardable does to you. How the ripple effects of her choice to do what felt right for her whether it was the right thing to do or not lead to profound isolation and loneliness and conflicts that have followed her throughout her college experience. Of course she would want better for Joyce. Especially considering meeting Joyce is what freed her from that.

NinjaZaku

Oh that last panel really portrays the raise in tension very well. It made *me* tense up a bit. Good shit.

Logibear

Next strip reveals that Sarah pulled a Kurapika and brought a baseball bat to this conversation.

Railway Series Book Club

@Mitzi the medium is accomodating this story just fine, the issue is people are impatient and want the slowburn daily comic strip to resolve every single plot point at once

Em

Oh wow yeah, I as a black woman have no right to be pissed that a black character is being used to mouth nonsense and is talked down to by a white character. You and every other person who has issues with how I feel and why are welcome to kiss my black ass.

Lazuli

Dorm Fighter. only trust your fists. Ruth is elsewhere.

Astariel

@Packy - Like Jayne said, Joe's gotten all those things already. The only reason anything is still unsettled between Joyce and Joe is because Joe specifically asked for it. Sarah's going to bat for Joe harder than Joe is, which, considering that she was asking Dorothy to seduce Joyce away from Joe not that long ago, is kinda weird.

Fart Captor

Lotta people need to step back and remember the situation we're dealing with isn't war crimes, it's teenage relationship drama. There's gonna be fuckups. There's gonna be mess. There's gonna be hurt feelings (some avoidably so, some not) They're teenagers. They're still learning

Jesse

"SISTER FIGHTS!!" "Dumbing of Age, it knows what I want!"

Tessea

They're both right, but they're also both wrong. It's not their decision either way. They can't meta-game Joyce's relationships. Joyce is _happy_ That's what's important in the end. At least as far as these two should be concerned. The choices over the breakup have been debated endlessly here so I won't dig into that, but in this matter Sarah has to choose what's more important to her. Joe's feelings, or Joyces. She's already made her feelings on how it happened very clear. And she's also not taking Joe's own wishes into account. She's working with incomplete information and I worry that's going to bite her in the ass and embarrass her.

Tessea

That's very true! An angle not often brought up!

Tessea

A Positively Outrageous Sister?

Sajuuk-Khar

@Empress: I want to note I say this with affection and like I’ve been on both the “damn kids lecturing me” and “damn slightly olders think they’re my fuckin Boss” sides of this and I honestly don’t think either Sarah or Joss has a monopoly on the truth here 🤣 this is truly some dumbing these two are up to

Tessea

I do agree. I don't think Sarah has all the facts, though. Does she realize that Joe intentionally helped push them together? I'm sure Joyce hasn't mentioned Joe's offer to Sarah either. I just worry that when that comes out that Sarah will feel humiliated.

Tessea

THIS. Absolutely this. Your comment is the TL;DR of the entire situation.

Dedi Variety VODS

I'm very interested to see how this pans out. While Jocelyne is 100% correct that Joe isn't owed Joyce, her love, or anything else to do with that, she's also wrong to be so flippant and dismissive of the fact that Joyce cheated on Joe and what his feelings are toward that. On the flipside, Sarah is also 100% correct that Joyce should not have cheated on Joe, and that Joe's feelings should be taken into account. She knows that Joe and Joyce still need to talk (with Dorothy too) about how this whole thing is going to work. Where Sarah is wrong is that Joyce does not have to choose Joe at all, and she's almost framing it as if Joyce does..? At least that's how it comes off. I really hope Joyce walks into this whole thing and tries to talk some sense into both. At the end of the day, it's Joyce's choice who she does or does not end up with, and who she wants to continue a relationship with. It does suck to see Joe and Joyce end so quickly after they finally had a healthy thing going, but we all knew Joyothy was going to happen eventually.

Shane Wegner

In this hypothetical, why is a 28ish super adult hanging out in the children’s crèche for babies (college freshmen)? If a grown up doesn’t walk into the house of babies, they don’t get lectured by babies. Jocelyn’s here because she wants to appeal to/“exploit the humanity of” one of these naive younglings. (Least generous framing, sure.)

Shane Wegner

Sarah has a scar from being cheated on herself in her past, so it’s believable she’s extra sensitive to it.

Shane Wegner

If Joe broke up with Joyce by cheating on her in such a way Joyce found about it on the front page of the newspaper first, I think Jocelyn would say something besides “Joyce will do fine now that she’s back on the market.” Double standards.

Simon Magid

@Em: You have every right to be angry at that. I am merely sorry that as a white person myself I missed that particular subtext.

voyager-ngc5195

Would I be correct in reading this, that the discussion isn't 100% about Joe? Certainly Sarah's being protective of Joyce as she's pretty much adopted that stance in general, but relationship-wise is Sarah beginning to see similarities between Dorothy and Joe's situation, and the situation between herself and Jocelyn? Effectively, that Sarah sees her as a threat towards this protective family dynamic she's developed with Joyce. For the most part, I agree with Sarah's position more than Jocelyn, though that's mostly because I've been in the position where the other person has said 'I'm going to cheat on you regardless' and generally know how that feels from Joe's perspective. It's shitty behavior regardless of age and gender, though granted in my case we'd been married for a number of years. Regardless, at some point Sarah's going to need to sit down and reassess this relationship with Joyce herself and determine if it's still healthy to maintain. Joyce is an adult. When she got here, she did need people to help her, someone that could take a baseball bat to Ryan's skull as a glaring example. But she has friends and a social network now, she's a 'fledgling out of the nest'. So Sarah may need to step back on this, because I could see a future where Joyce ends up 'breaking up' with her for being too overbearing. It'd suck and be undeserved, but it may well happen.

Johanne

It would be so funny if, unbeknownst to us, Joyce finally talks with Joe, decides she wants both of them, talks with Dorothy (who is agically down for a V), and walks up to Jocelyne and Sarah (who are still fighting) while holding each of her partners' hands. And then we could finally relax and get along again. Soooo funny!

Johanne

Team surprise funny hinge polycule! Go team!

Madison

I don’t get how anyone thinks Sarah is implying Joe is owed Joyce? He does genuinely love Joyce and therefore he deserves *not being treated like this*. Flippantly. If Joyce can so easily discard people who love her, what does that say about Joyce? Is that something she wants to cultivate?

Downgraded my patreon for HRT

Are people dead naming Jocelyn because they're being transphobic or did I miss something among the Fandom?

Sajuuk-Khar

Jocelyne: THEOCRACY (THE COUPLE) IS PURE!!! JAKEY SHOULD DIE!! Sarah: NO, JOEYCE IS PURE!! SEND DOROTHY TO A SECULAR CONVENT SOMEHOW!! Joyce: I’m quite fond of sexual relations with both of you, Joe and Dorothy :3 Dorothy/Joe: Thank you Ms. Joyce

Harold

Wait, where are people doing that? On the main site? I'm certainly not seeing that here. Are you misreading "Joss" (as some people shorten Jocelyne's name) as something else?

Harold

It's one thing to disagree, even vehemently, with what Jocelyne is saying here. If commenters on the main site are deadnaming her for it, fuck that shit and zero out the comments until it stops.

Mitzi B.

Yeah this comic feels kinda like a reply to arguments people were having several months ago.

Downgraded my patreon for HRT

It could be that. I might have thought her dead name was joss. Thanks for pointing out where I went wrong

David M Willis

Her deadname is not Joss, no. Joss is just short for Jocelyne.

DramaQueen

Well that makes a lot more sense than your first comment.

DramaQueen

Everyone seems to forget that Joyce broke up with Joe almost immediately by their time (not reader time, that was forever.) And then Joe said maybe I can squeeze in there as a third wheel which is a huge ask and usually gets an automatic “what, fuck no.” If Joyce is going to bring that up to Dorothy it needs to be after the initial flurry of emotion and passion has settled down a little.

Beck Chonigman

Harold

@Sajuuk-Khar: Walky: [eats McNuggets in corner as Booster stands next to him playing descending notes on a trombone]

tifani

Treat others the way you want to be treated. It really is that simple.

tifani

Honestly reading this over Jocelyne’s whole attitude towards this is really REALLY bad: “Yeah I didn’t tell my sister to cheat or encourage her to cheat but I didn’t discourage it either. Oh you tell me the person she cheated on loves her. So? He’s irrelevant.” She dismisses Joe’s heartbreak as something he’ll get over easily because he’s attractive. She invalidates her own sister’s importance to Joe with the idea that Joyce can just be easily swapped out for a new girlfriend. She is irritated by the idea of Joe being owed a shot at Joyce when not five minutes ago she was applauding her sister for “snagging a Dorothy” basically turning Dorothy into a prize to be won.

darklion

So many feels in the comments today. This is just what happens when two value systems collide. Loyalty/fairness/purity vs. liberty/caring. There's no right answer. (Though I do have a hunch that many chose the values that justify their own past feelings and/or behavior.) But before I read the comments, all I was thinking about was r/AccidentalCommunism

Railway Series Book Club

@Mitzi: I find that unlikely given Willis had a year's worth of buffer when making these comics. I don't expect there'll be any non-Asma Patch strips with weapons trained on the audience until like... *checks notes* August of this year?

Empress of Robots

@QofS and @Mitzi - it IS possible these strips were inserted/tweaked in response to THE DISCOURSE since I think David has mentioned that they have gone back and inserted and/or modified strips after the strips were completed in the past.

Empress of Robots

Comments section sure went from "I disagree with Jocelyne/I think Jocelyne is wrong" to "Jocelyne is bad/gross/needs to be crushed by Sarah" pretty dang quickly. A trans woman? Getting torn apart? Because what she says/believes doesn't line up with someone else's moral purity? In 2026? You love to see it! (that's sarcasm btw)

Empress of Robots

On the plus side, at least everyone is tearing down a fictitious trans woman so there is no real world harm and you're (i.e. the you that's doing it) are just showing your whole transmisogynistic ass for the world to see! Also before someone chimes in with "I'm a trans woman and I think Jocelyne is gross because she says things I disagree with" just remember that transmisogyny (much like original flavor misogyny) is just as often perpetrated by other trans women as by everyone else!

Harold

@QueenOfSodor: Prediction - for the one-year real-world anniversary of The Kiss (July 14), Willis will commemorate the occasion with a solid week of wordless strips just depicting Joyce and Dorothy rolling around in bed

Moonrunes

This is horrible *eats popcorn* Simply awful.

Dmitri0240

@DramaQueen And even then, Joyce *did* explicitly reject the poly option as well. Joe is free to hope that she changes her mind, and even to make his case, but the idea that it's still up in the air is simply not in agreement with what Joyce actually said and did. Promising that you will talk with someone in the future cannot be taken as "ignore everything I just said".

Dmitri0240

@Shane Sarah had no reservations whatsoever about Joyce cheating on Joe before she spoke with him in the gym, so I don't buy the "Sarah is just trigged by cheating" excuse. All I see is someone ignoring a friend's clear and unambiguous romantic preferences and interjecting their own. And let's not even get into the whole "your dear friend is a recovering fundamentalist and has come out of the closet and the most important thing in your mind is telling them how wrong they are for failing to do so in the maximally ethical way". I believe Sarah means well, but she is not handling this thoughtfully.

joe mcguire

Joe isn’t owed Joyce, or a relationship with Joyce, but he’s owed more respect than he’s being given. Jocelyn can write off the situation because she’s removed from it. She knows Joyce and Dorothy, so her happiness for them finding each other is more real than any other aspect of the situation. But Sarah knows everybody in the situation, it’s all real to her. She can’t reconcile how blithely Joe is being tossed aside. It’s great that Dorothy and Joyce got together, but it was done with very little regard for others feelings and that’s what Sarah (and I) object to.

Maude Reads Things

Sure, he's not owed her and Joyce isn't owed Sarah's good opinion on cheating on her boyfriend. It's that simple. As someone said below, I sincerely doubt Joss would be this cool if Joe cheated on Joyce on the news. I'm over people babying Joyce like she's not a fucking adult who can be shitty to people sometimes.
