Get her ass Joe!!!

Sajuuk-Khar

Yes, Joe, you and Dorothy have fallen in love with a complete idiot. You can be perfect, and an idiot.

C

Maybe some healthy communication would help everyone out.

Andrea Andrew

Somehow, I don’t think Dorothy hates Joe anymore.

tifani

If the text never arrives it never arrived. You fucked up Joyce!

jafortee

It hurt itself in confusion!

Maude Reads Things

I mean, Willis did say he wanted to do an affair storyline. This could be messy for a while to come.

Sajuuk-Khar

She’s cringe and monogamy-pilled

Lazuli

aaaaaand there it is

Sajuuk-Khar

IN MORE THAN ONE WAY (WITH DOROTHY’S EXPRESS CONSENT)

tifani

So in Joyce’s head she, Joe, and Dorothy all live together? Cute.

Logibear

You are right. However *gestures broadly at the title of the comic*

Fart Captor

No no no that could never work

Logibear

Innuendo and in-her-endo implied!!!

Sajuuk-Khar

I love when Joyce has fucking, like, brainworms in real-time. It’s so adorable and so so dumb. You want to pick her up like a loud dumb cat.

tifani

Picturing them in a little apartment and yeah: very cute.

MrShoggoth

And boom goes the dynamite.

jafortee

but it’s very important that the cartoon characters make the correct decisions, how else will I keep relating to them

Railway Series Book Club

i'm glad Joyce is still wrapping herself up in silly misconceptions about hetero-monogamous relationship norms, those are always fun to see her break down

Harold

"That LITTLE WHEEL is still spinning. In the BREAKFAST NOOK - wait, wrong metaphor... wait, hang on---"

Lazuli

thats a wild idea

Kelly (they-them)

Joyce hit send, but she still has time to un-send before you see it Ooh, ooh. Or it's like when Dotty had the opportunity to NOT send Joyce that lewd, but then went ahead and sent it properly

Kelly (they-them)

Joe: I consent! Joyce: I consent! Dorothy: I don't

Andrea Andrew

This is the only time Joe’s shown some annoyance. He sees through this monogamy brainwashing.

tifani

I don’t think she hates him either but she hated him for so long she’s not used to not hating him and is still learning how to interact with this version of him she can tolerate or even like. Meanwhile Joe never hated her and seems to have grown to genuinely respect her but all through high school she was just Danny’s girlfriend. They didn’t associate by choice. They just had Danny in common. Now they have Joyce.

Logibear

"I sent that carrier pigeon!!! It's not my fault the neighbours cat got it as it left the coop" "So you saw that happen and didn't tell anyone?" ".......... telegrams..... I sent one"

GundamBradley

I do love these two together, but Joe would be well within his rights to tell Joyce to get bent for the time being.

Amós Batista

So, that nightmare from Dorothy was a foreshadowing, huh?

tifani

The main site comments still think this is a break up conversation. Omfg.

Logibear

I feel like the first panel on this strip alone will smash those conceptions for them tomorrow

Tessea

Joyyyyyyce.... This is where you have to face the consequences one way or the other. Either commit to talking to Dorothy about it TODAY or Joe will have even more reason to be upset than he already is. And _when_ Dorothy finds out she'll be mad, too. You can't avoid this any longer.

Astariel

I'm surprised that Joe didn't see them as broken up, given some of the things he said to Sarah and Danny. Also, that's really beautifully put by Joyce in the first bubble of panel 2. I hope she gets that (with Dorothy).

tifani

No I think they’re still going to be insisting Joe is being dumped/insisting that last comment was Joyce clarifying she dumped Joe and Joe just “refused” to see it. The denial is STRONG with them.

Sajuuk-Khar

God you know what’d be great is if she went to Jocelyne for advice and Joss just goes “GET IT, GIRL :3”

KittyKai

THERE it is! THAT’S our indecisive lovable doofus! x3

May 4, 2025?

ATD

Joyce, it is NOT your place to decide what Dorothy would or would not like. COMMUNICATE!!!

KiasyonSFM

I thought Dorothy was gonna fumble by her reaction to Joe offering polyamory but oh boy this might just be the Joyce Fumble of the century.

Dmitri0240

I know a lot of people are going to read this as vindication for the idea that Joyce never actually broke up with Joe, but all I see is Joe being shitty as things start moving in the direction he doesn't like, and Joyce being inexperienced enough with breakups to doubt herself.

Packy Anderson

I appreciate your dedication to accuracy, sir.

Packy Anderson

I just can't bring myself to read the comments on the main site. That's one of the reasons I pay money to Patreon: to not have to deal with the main site.

Packy Anderson

Or it's a system where you can edit the sends even after you've sent them.

Logibear

"Watch me" - Joyce probably

Calder Johnson

Because I got my own brainworm, I checked how many days in real-time it has been since Joyce promised Joe they'd talk. It's been 249 days. Then I learned that the official category for a pregnancy of this length is 'late preterm'. That's it. Carry on.

tifani

Sometimes I get morbidly curious and take a peek but there really is nothing there worth seeing. Right now though with this most recent Joe and Joyce convo it’s just fascinating seeing how many people continue to double down on saying they’re broken up or about to break up despite all evidence to the contrary. This latest update has actually not gotten that many comments though. Or maybe it’s just the new mod refusing to let a shit storm out. Probably the latter.

Rob McBobson

Ah, they're having a talk about another talk. Kinda like that old meme. "I heard you like talks, so I put a talk in your talk so you can talk while you talk." Seriously though, this talk is still not over, and Dina and Becky were talking the last time we saw them. Agh, the anticipation... This week is going to feel slo-o-o-o-ow... (The parts I don't spend reading DoA, that is...)

SomeKindaNerd

I don't know if he's being shitty and selfish about where things are going so much as he's disappointed in and frustrated with Joyce. Perhaps he's thinking something like "if you feel so strongly about Dorothy then she deserves the clear communication I'm still waiting for from you" or something.

Lazuli

@somekindanerd thats how im reading it too. joe's showing some exasperation at joyce's lack of clear communication regarding the situation. and hes pretty much valid in feeling that way. joyce is being not great about this and she's got to step up.

Alexandra Falk

Joyce you KNOW poly people! you know they're real!

Joseph

Looks like Joe is about to make this a lot easier for Joyce (by breaking up with Joyce)

tifani

Or just asking to go with her to talk to Dorothy to make sure the talk happens.

tifani

I like how I made that whole comment yesterday about Joe not needing a symbolic wedding but looking this dialogue over we do get stuff that sounds like wedding vows. The first two panels at least. You have Joyce literally saying “I do.” to Joe. She will take this man. You have that whole line about societal expectations of love (the expectation/fantasy of devoting yourself to one person and one person only) vs Joyce’s actual experience of falling in love with two people and her vision of a potential future (wanting to come home to Joe and Dorothy) that includes the three of them building a life together. I mean the weddings have different vibes with one seeming very grand and fairytale and one striking me as significantly more low key an affair like ending up at a court house surprised you’re there because you never saw this going this far at the start but ready and willing to give it a shot.

tifani

Joyce is a bigamist now. Putting the bi in bigamy!

Empress of Robots

So I want to preface this by saying that I am ambivalent to whether Dorothy/Joyce/Joe happens or not. I see the case and potential for both. BUT! This is really shitty of Joe to pretend like HE hasn't been acting like they've all but broken up to this point. They haven't/barely talked or texted for three days in-story (since the morning after The Kiss) which is a LOT for a relationship that is less than two weeks old. I get that Joe was giving Joyce space, but at the same time how he has been acting is not consistent with "Joyce and I are definitely still dating, just waiting to hear if Dorothy is onboard." It feels like he's trying to take advantage of Joyce's guilt a little bit here by claiming that they didn't break up. I don't want to rehash the adequacy/ambiguity of whether Joyce actually broke up with Joe after The Kiss, but neither of them has been acting that they are 100% still together either up till now and Joyce did make it very clear (and Joe conceded) that Dorothy came first.

thejeff

What's he supposed to do though? Just show up and act like they're still together? Press her for an answer, when she's put him off with promises to talk soon every time they've interacted. It's not really "we're definitely still dating, waiting to hear if Dorothy is onboard", but more "Joyce and Dorothy are definitely dating, waiting to see if there's room for Joe too." They're not really broken up, but also not really still dating. They're kind of in limbo. In a holding pattern until a decision is made.

Johanne

I do appreciate that Joyce isn't only leaning on monogamy here. Polyam in general is possible and she mostly knows it, the main issue is how little Dorothy and Joe get along, and all the friction that would create. That is a much more valid point here. Even though of course she still should not be making that assumption before talking to everyone.

Harold

@Logibear: "Hold my 2-liter Sprite"

tifani

Looks like Mandy, Grace, and Sierra are about to get a major upgrade in their screen time. I’m picturing Joyce doing a running tackle at Sierra yelling “Teach me your ways!”

tifani

The “issue”( quotations because I don’t really think of it as an issue just a desire that makes this situation require more effort) is that Joyce has actually put thought into what her ideal version of polyamory would be and it’s her, Joe and Dorothy all together living a life. She imagines herself coming home to both of them. And likely wants them to spend time together as a group. She wants a throuple basically. And with how Dorothy and Joe have been with each other in the past she doesn’t see a logical path to that. Now the easy solution to this would just be letting Joyce know that she could date them both without Joe and Dorothy ever having to interact with each other at all. She could be one person carrying on two fully separate relationships but if she’s going to do this she wants it to be as three people in one relationship. This is possible but it’s harder. It fits with Joyce though who wants it ALL always. Very much a have her cake and eat it too type of girl.

Harold

@tifani: Me and the Two Bad Bitches I Pulled by Never Wearing Shoes or Socks

Dmitri0240

The question isn't whether polyamory relationships are valid; the question is whether the specific combination of Joyce/Dorothy/Joe has any chance whatsoever of being viable.

Dmitri0240

With all of the character development he's made, people forget that in-universe Joe was a huge scumbag up until a few months ago. It would not be all surprising if he were to backslide a tiny bit considering the circumstances (note: "not surprising" not "justifiable"). Good character development doesn't need to be a perfectly straight line.

Alexandra Falk

Yes, that will be borne out in the upcoming pages, I hope. But I was more addressing Joyce's absolute views in panel two.

Dmitri0240

@SomeKindaNerd I feel like Joyce has been perfectly clear with Joe that her only real priority is Dorothy, and that she's not considering poly. It's just not the answer Joe wants, so he's grasping at straws. Beginning a relationship requires mutual consent, but ending one does not. And as long as Joyce doesn't intend to pursue Joe's counterproposal, she is under no obligation to relay said proposal to Dorothy. There's absolutely zero chance Dorothy responds positively to that proposal, and the harder Joe pushes Joyce on the issue, the less he looks like a decent guy making some bad choices in a bad situation, and the more he looks like a manipulator trying to torpedo his ex's new relationship.

Dmitri0240

If Joe actually thought this would be something Dorothy would be *remotely* into, there's nothing stopping him from making that proposal to Dorothy herself. That he's not willing to do so, and instead trying to guilt Joyce into doing it, says to me that he knows the idea is dead-on-arrival and he's either isn't thinking clearly or is actively sabotaging Joyce and Dorothy.

Sol

I think you are genuinely reading into things that aren't there. It is very clear that Joe is frustrated that Joyce has not told Dorothy that she didn't actually break up with Joe. The result of pushing Joyce on this is to make her commit to one of those things, either telling Dorothy or actually breaking up with Joe. There is nothing wrong with what Joe has said and it isn't manipulative at all, it is literally asking for proper communication.

5099 5618 v2.0

@tifani From bi-curious to bi-furious to bi-gamist, it seems.

Harrison Fuller

I thought for a second you were talking about the second promise in Dina’s room lmao

George Simpson

While it's not entirely fair, you can often be judged in a relationship for even *proposing* something that somebody is sufficiently against.

George Simpson

For this poly approach to have a prayer of working out, I can see why it has to come from Joyce, rather than Joe. Dorothy would have every reason to just say "no" to him... what does *she* get out of sharing Joyce? I don't think Joe is really *trying* to sabotage things... at least not any more than it's already being sabotaged by Joyce still wanting him. There's just no way to actually achieve what Joyce wants: two relationships, untouching, on opposite sides of the plate.

Harold

@Harrison Fuller: I think they're actually talking about Joyce's THIRD promise to talk soon - the one she's about to make, as she yakety-saxes away from Joe as fast as she possibly can

Girlycore

All hail the new mod, tbh.

Dmitri0240

@Sol A breakup is not a magic spell or legal contract where precise wording is necessary or else the whole thing is invalid. Reading her actual words, rather than what Joe and the poly-hopefuls wanted to hear, she did everything she needed to do to end the relationship. That Joe refused to accept that is ultimately on him.

Dmitri0240

If I can politely listen to poly-evangelists explain why everyone who isn't poly is selfish or delusional, I can accept Joyce using slightly overly-broad rhetoric when explaining her own personal preference for monogamy.

Dmitri0240

@George There's a difference between having lingering feelings for an ex, and actually wishing to continue both relationships, and Joyce has always been on the "lingering feelings" side of that line. The only person who actually wants poly is Joe (and I'm personally not at all convinced he wants it for the right reasons).
