Andrea Andrew

Yeah, Dorothy. Don’t feel like an ass. You’ve already got one Joyce likes.

KiasyonSFM

"Let" is an interesting word here. Dotty you gotta realize you can't control how people feel.

Lea

Is...is Joyce channeling Walky here?

Railway Series Book Club

yeah gonna need both the first AND last panels in hi-res when this runs tomorrow. that face Joyce makes in the final panel made me laugh out loud, lol also "maybe i'd better person if i let walky hate me" OH MY GOD GIRL

Empress of Robots

Is Joyce actively suppressing/compartmentalizing her guilt about the whole Joe thing or just verrrrrrry horny for Dorothy (at all times)? The answer...may surprise you!

Harold

Dumbing of Age, Book 16: The Other Half Is Your Butt

Astariel

I love slightly manic Joyce. And terminally horny Joyce.

C.T. Phipps

I wish Historical Jesus and this Joyce could meet. Could we have him just be a barista or something. Possibly named Jesus and a Jewish guy that Joyce struggles with looking nothing like White Jesus?

Moonrunes

Man it's weird how like, five months ago Dorothy was more concerned with her future aspirations at Yale than Danny.

Joseph

Dorothy was about to have an insight / reminder re: people liking you vis a vis being the President but I guess we’ll save that for later (or never, that’s also an option)

LupinThe8th

I think Joyce has her beat in the boob department, so she can always just enjoy her own now that she knows she likes them (as if her comment about Jennifer wasn't an early hint). Hard to admire your own butt though, takes agility.

Harold

Joyce Brown's Big Book o' Bisexual Buv

Lazuli

joyce, just shut up

Logibear

Mayhaps that the message from the prior strip was not, in actuality, received.

GundamBradley

That's one of her biggest things she needs to work on. Go back and read her approaching how to break up with Walky before Joyce inserted herself to do it. No conversation to be had, she went in basically looking towards what the best speech to give on it would be. It's related, I think, to her issues with why she wanted to be president to begin with, where she just kind of imagined president-ing at every problem and not engaging with the complexities and consequences of it all. Dorothy's a great person, but this is one of those areas where her youthful naivete shows. She can work on it, but we're not there yet.

tifani

Joyce please stop acting like endlessly over analyzing the appropriate way to treat people is some kind of virtue. It’s not good enough to just wonder what you should do. What matters is actually doing the right thing. Anyone could be a good person “in theory.”

tifani

And Dorothy is fixating on this pointlessly. Walky asked her to leave him alone. The answer to that is respecting it and moving the fuck on. But anyway the answer to all of Dorothy’s questions in panels 2 and 3 are yes. And maybe Dorothy should be allowed to just experience an uncomfortable realization about herself for two seconds before Joyce jumps in to insist upon her overall goodness. You’re her girlfriend, not a thought terminating cliche in human form.

Railway Series Book Club

hey, just 'cause joyce's boobs are bigger doesn't mean she can't still adore dorothy's boobs! they're cute and triangular!

tifani

Dorothy you don’t get to “let” Walky do anything. If he hates you, he hates you. But also he obviously doesn’t hate you. He just wants his space and he is allowed that. Continuing to fight that like you get a say might make him actually hate you though.

tifani

It’s trying to but Joyce is right there to get in the way of any kind of self reflection with her “everything’s fine! I was right and you are the most considerate person on the planet just by thinking about being considerate super duper hard!” attitude.

Sajuuk-Khar

The roundest point on our beloved bony poindexter

Sajuuk-Khar

I mean not to be too much of a revisionist but it DID take Ruth pointing out publicly how much of a pathetic albatross around her neck Danny was being to actually dump him, And Also she just kind of went to IU without telling him things properly She almost assuredly had the guilt churn internally, it just was less pronounced

Sajuuk-Khar

Fourth option: if you focus on your partner’s problem, you never have to address your own!! (You do)

Fart Captor

You can't CONTROL how people feel about you but you can change your behavior to try to influence how they feel about you She's wondering if she should stop trying

ArdieBea

Yeah, no matter how much i enjoy my own bits, those of my dearly beloved will always be the best.

Alexandra Falk

Aw, man, another relatable Dorothy moment.

Shane Wegner

They're imperfect, but interestingly so.

Sajuuk-Khar

Dorothy: Yes they are real, AND they can cut glass

Tessea

Oh my god that last panel! That smile is so wrong!!!

5099 5618 v2.0

@Minzoku Bokumetsu Plenty of boob love from Dorothy to Joyce. And for the rest [ to | from ] both of them.

5099 5618 v2.0

@S-K True, but they're both doing that, and this technique is known to keep your problems around and growing. So it's kind of like they're using each other's unresolved issues as a kind of [ battery | motor ]. Exactly what they're powering? Unclear, beyond the two-stroke engine that is their shared sex drive, but I guess we'll find out!

5099 5618 v2.0

@Astariel I suspect you will see quite a lot of both, going forward

Johanne

Re enjoying her own... Is that how that works for most bi / pan / gay allo folks? Can the allos explain?

Johanne

It's tricky how it's hidden inside a strip of such stagnant non-growth for Joyce, but let's appreciate that she is actually naming herself as bisexual! Looks like her self-insight has thankfully surpassed Jennifer's. Backed by that lab strip with Becky.

Sajuuk-Khar

Joyce, when she gets her first car, will have a sticker on it that says “BISEXUAL CADDY DRIVERS PULL UP TO THE BUMPER”

Sajuuk-Khar

(achewood.com/2007/02/20/title.html is what the reference)

Tessea

I do love how these two always seem to know how to cheer up the other.

tifani

I will give her credit for actually managing to say the word.

tifani

I will never accuse them of being boring, that’s true. Frustrating beyond the ability to tolerate on occasion? Yes. Annoying as fuck at times? Yes. Couple most likely to fill me with the urge to reach inside a screen and shake while screaming at? Yes. But boring? No.

David M Willis

Dunno! But this does remind me I meant to change that number to a more generationally-appropriate 67.

Zesstra

I only just noticed the Steve's Frosted BrOs box on the 69! door.

5099 5618 v2.0

@Lea Well, if you can't admit your opponents have a point...

5099 5618 v2.0

@Andrea Andrew Feel > ( feel like ) ?

tifani

Second comic in less than a week that ends with her having a too wide unsettling smile while in conversation with Dorothy. The too wide smile keeps all the things she’s not supposed to say locked in tight. Seriously though the actual break up with Joe was like five minutes ago. Now she’s leaving Walky’s room and Dorothy is thinking out loud on her post break up behavior. Joyce’s brain has to be screaming right now. It is way harder to lie by omission to someone’s face when you are doing it actively vs passively. No wonder she is doubling down on everything’s great! Look at my distracting dance! With a person with secrets dance like this? Nope! Don’t question you and don’t question me and we’ll never have problems again! (This is a reference to the crazy ex gf song and the theme song for Dorothy/Joyce for me).

tifani

And now I’m imagining Joyce dancing to it.

MDL

Dorothy: Walky hates me... Joyce: Oh no, anyway...

Harold

My Dorothy fits me like a flesh tuxedo I'd like to sink her with my strap-on torpedo Dot's bottom, Dot's bottom Talk about bum cakes, my Dot's got 'em

Elihu Aran

*small Mexican girl* Por qué no los dos?

tifani

Let’s be real if they hadn’t gone to the same college Dorothy would have dumped Danny at graduation and never looked back. Think about how little they interact considering there was a time they were dating siblings and sharing several mutual friends. They are in the same social group. But in a half a year Dorothy has sought Danny out exactly twice and both times was because she needed something from him (shoes and then advice). Danny for his part also clearly only interacts with Dorothy when he absolutely has to. Ther’s nothing wrong with this but I think there’s a difference between amicable and nt actively hostile. And I thjnk she dealt with Walky when she actually did try to be friends with post their other breaks ups ultimately in a very similar way. Only reached out to him a week later because she had to because she wanted something (to see if Amber was in his room. I think Dorothy will say out loud she wants to be “amicable” because that’s what grown ups do. That is in fact just what she wants to think about herself as she said. But in reality what I think she actually truly wants is for her exes to go away once the relationship ends. She doesn’t want anything bad to happen to them but she doesn’t want to have to think about them or interact with them. And a lot of people have that attitude towards break ups. She’s not weird for this. She just needs to stop putting up a front of feeling differently. Like do we really think she wants Joyce to be friends with Joe post break up? Fuck no. He’s a walking talking guilt trip to her. He’s the mirror people hold up to her to show she’s fallen short of her own good person standards.

Steve McSheffrey

Isn't she also on fairly not good terms with Danny?

tifani

I think it’s going to take actually encountering him and having the interaction go poorly similar to Walky for her to realize that. And I think he’s going to be way angrier. I know I would be if you came to me for advice, clearly ignored it, and then cheated with my best friend’s girlfriend. And that’s why having a best friend is nice.
