Ruth has no one to blame but herself

Logibear

OMIGOSH!!! All my Yuri under one roof (Dina has yet to materialize but the night is young)

Kazo

Just don't combine the two. This is why I no longer go to the food hall on Mondays.

jafortee

sapphic karaoke night is such a welcome fucking surprise

Railway Series Book Club

okay i really hope we get to learn how the hell asma ended up here bc WHAT, HOW, OH MY GOD i'm so glad we're in karaokeville, i need some pairing of these girls to start making out pronto

Lisa

Ruth is going to be the karaoke person now, whether she likes it or not.

Andrea Andrew

Wow! Surrounded by an ex and her new girlfriend, and her potential new girlfriend. Good luck, Ruth.

Morgan Byrd

If Ruth had nuts she would have just punched herself there

Lazuli

thinking of the good luck babe book mark

Logibear

Look at how damn happy Billie and Alice are btw

Andrea Andrew

I think Lucy will feel awkward being the only “straight” girl there.

Andrew

Ok but which is your chaos pairing?

ArdieBea

Finally! Asma and Alice at a social event together!

Railway Series Book Club

idk if it's my *chaos* pairing necessarily but i've been kinda wanting Becky/Alice to be a thing for a bit, just bc i feel like they'd be fun! and like, while it deffo wouldn't *solve* any of Becky's Mental Health Issues, it would probably help her build self-esteem if an allo girl showed active sexual interest in her? of course all of this has become complicated by Asma/Alice being more or less objectively better but i still kinda want to see it happen someday...

Sajuuk-Khar

RED FLAG, CRIMSON AS THE WESTERN SKY

Astariel

Okay, I really want to know how Jennifer, Alice, and Asma all got involved in this.

Harold

Where do you see Lucy? Apologies if I'm missing something.

Sajuuk-Khar

Ruth’s beautiful beautiful faaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaces in these panels

Andrea Andrew

Preview art hints that she’ll be there.

Andrea Andrew

Sapphic night right before Pride Month.

Sajuuk-Khar

It’s yuri night and the feeling’s right

Harold

Tifani? It may be safe for you to come back!

Harold

Dumbing of Age, Book 16: NO WINKSIES!

Harold

Ah! Thanks!

Andrea Andrew

Alice is about to be fought over without realizing it, though Jen/billie also doesn’t know it.

MrShoggoth

Oh this is a much better outcome hahaha

Amós Batista

I want to make a GIF of Joyce winking.

5099 5618 v2.0

...well, alright. Ruth was able to steer away enough to keep from driving off a cliff, she just crashed into a roadside beehive in the process. Joyce, you will someday have to settle these debts...

5099 5618 v2.0

@im_sentient And Joyce. Joyce definitely did contribute to this one.

5099 5618 v2.0

@Andrea Andrew Yeah. This isnt a scenario from which she's woken up in a cold sweat, or anything...

AE Gonzalez

Alice put her hand on her hand, one body part at a time.

5099 5618 v2.0

@S-K Sokath, his eyes open.... MIRAB, WITH SAILS UNFURLED!

GundamBradley

Heh, guess Asma got the invite, too. Makes sense, Ruth knows her more than most of the cast does.

Empress of Robots

WELCOME TO YURI DOME. ALL YURI ENTERS. NO YURI LEAVES.

Sajuuk-Khar

“You’re probably wondering how I ended up with my face in Becky’s crotch later tonight.”

Tessea

No good deed and all that.

Beck Chonigman

Oh fuck that's right. I was so caught up on the neverending torment nexus that is life rn, that I COMPLETELY forgot that June is Pride Month.

Zesstra

ASMA STATS Happy 50th (main) strip, Asma! I look forward to seeing how they got you to come to karaoke, though I suspect it's Alice related.

darklion

Failed successfully

Gale Tazzin

ASMA AND ALICE? OUR REPLACEMENT YURI SHIP IS SAILING???

Rob McBobson

Should we comment that on her comments, so she gets the message (like, literally gets the message)?

Rob McBobson

The fact that there was a bit of a debate yesterday about the characters getting drunk, and the consequences and so on, proves that there's a bit of an issue with the daily format of a comic strip. All that Willis actually did was to give us a total of three--three!--panels where, thoughtlessly, Joyce tried to get Ruth to get Becky drunk. (And just one of those yesterday.) This caused lots of discussion and debate about all the wacky hijinks or serious problems (or both) that would be caused by the drunkenness in a sequence where nobody ended up having a single alcoholic drink to begin with. I wanna be clear that I'm not claiming that you're a bad person if you were worried about what the plotline was gonna turn out to be, or against people making jokes about how things were gonna turn out. All I'm saying is that it must be super frustrating for Willis to make a quick joke for three panels, and a ton of us (including me) start discussing an actual Ruth-going-to-a-bar-with-Becky plot line, even though Willis never made a plotline like that to begin with. Willis writes a three-panel joke (stretched between strips) about how Joyce wants Ruth and Becky to go drinking but has her idea shot down by Ruth. We, the readers, start commenting on a plotline we imagined, where Ruth and Becky go binge drinking together. Even though that plotline never even happened. I remember the same thing happening a few months ago, when there was a comment from Walky about how Joyce had ruined everything (or something similar), and people assumed this was now gonna be a plotline about how everybody declares their hatred for Joyce for being so horrible and selfish, but then what happened the characters just went to class. No hatefest at all. What I'm getting at is, maybe we could cut down on inventing a plot line in our heads and commenting on, and discussing, it? Let's comment on the actual comic, and the actual things happening in it.

Shane Wegner

Good RA! (Grudgingly) creating happy, non-traumatic memories for these youths.

Tessea

This! So much this! Let something actually happen before criticizing it!

Harold

"Waiter! There's a lesbian in my soup." "Shhh - not so loud! Everyone will want one!"

Harold

@Rob McBobson: Done.

Harold

Plot twist: This is Asma's voiceover

tifani

Shout out to Harold for reaching out and letting me know this update was safe. Willis also was very reassuring when I chatted a bit on tumblr. It’s nice to have such considerate commenters and comic creator. Now that being said I have thoughts.

tifani

Joyce I am still deeply pissed at you. That wink in particular is enraging. I know you grew up sheltered and I know you’re autistic (same) and I know your intentions are most of the time good (also same). But you need to grasp just how deeply ignorant you can come across and take some responsibility for how reckless you are with other people’s lives and disrespectful of their boundaries (you violated Walky’s, Becky’s (because remember she told Joyce how she anted to handle shit and a Joyce said no) and Ruth’s in less than a couple hours on the same day) in the pursuit of making what you want happen. Ruth has a serious drinking problem. That remains true even if she is now in a place where she is functional. Fortunately she seems to be smart about handing her limits and seems to be on a good place currently because the attitude you have right now could absolutely push someone not in that place into using you as an excuse to throw caution to the wind and potentially relapse. Yeah it would have been their choice but you don’t dangle someone’s drug of them at them, yell go fetch, and then get to claim no responsibility. Ruth almost DIED. Drinking for her is not some fun rite of passage thing lol it is for you. Have some respect for the context of her life! Them fully rejecting your stupid plan and socializing in another way was the best case scenario for how this could have gone. Fortunately.

tifani

Last comment though: hey there’s Billie in the background! Yay! I wanted to see her!

tifani

So anyway I will be holding my tongue on the particular issues the last update brought up for me for now unless of course something hugely relevant happens to it plot wise.

tifani

Yeah that’s not how I analyze and I’m not interested in adjusting my behavior to that kind of a framework at all. If I want my comments limited to a very specific list of what I’m allowed to talk about or how a discussion can venture and evolve I’d go to the main site and save the $5 a month and have a way less interesting time. (Not to say moderation there hadn’t become very very necessary based on what I saw.)

tifani

She could invite Jason. She should. Make him sing some death metal or something.

Rob McBobson

"a very specific list of what I'm allowed to talk about" is a strawman, though. It's not as if I made a list and said that people are only allowed to talk about these specific things on the list. And if I can be honest, I feel that that's an example of what I'm talking about in regards to imagining things and commenting on them. Like I say sometimes on the Internet, it's fine to disagree with me, but it's not fair to disagree with me about things I never said.

Edwin I Callahan

Well, I agree. But I expect a lot of the fans have different views

Tessea

I am curious about one element. As readers _we_ know about Ruth's drinking problem, but is that knowledge really widespread among the students? This isn't excusing Joyce's behavior here, but I'm wondering if she even knows just _how_ bad an idea this was.

DramaQueen

Great idea, but half the fun of internet comments is blathering nonsense and over-reacting so people will probably bristle at your suggestion to tone it down. I myself am thoroughly enjoying this whole storyline! Good on Ruth for being offered an opportunity for socializing then following up on it in a healthy way, and even inviting Asma! (Who seems to be side-eying the out lesbian with the expression one would use on streaker or a space alien.)

Sajuuk-Khar

@Harold: It’s not the amaretto cherry cordial ice cream bowl on fire that I ordered, but I’d be a fool to turn down baklava with strawberry ice cream on top :D (Or underneath, given Becky’s bottom brat tendencies)

Andrea Andrew

Oh right! I forgot Ruth was still dating Jason. Man. Poor guy. He doesn’t stand a chance against Becky.

Sajuuk-Khar

I love Jason sincerely, like, I think our British boy has unexplored pathos and I think there’s a sad sweetness to him and Ruth’s pairing. That being said…Look. When I remember how I felt about Joe kind of losing round one to the wonderful purity of Theocracy (I still believe in the Zoning Issue triad form!) the feelings were definitely mixed, as I’m sure they were for all Joe fans, no need to relitigate, blah blah blah. This is all to say that when I think of Jason getting cheated on by Ruth with Becky I cackle like a hyena. I’m sorry, Jason. It’s really funny! It’s objectively REALLY funny!!

tifani

I think everyone in their social group has to have some idea of how bad it got but Dorothy definitely knows having been an it’s Walky during the worst of it and likely told her what went down with Ruth on Halloween. She knows enough.

tifani

“What I'm getting at is, maybe we could cut down on inventing a plot line in our heads and commenting on, and discussing, it? Let's comment on the actual comic, and the actual things happening in it.” Is the portion that I was responding to and disagreeing with you about. I don’t think there is anything wrong with speculating on what you think might happen in the future of the story or pointing out how things could potentially go wrong or right if a decision happens. It’s just a part of caring about a story and with so little to pick apart in a single update a day your mind will wander to the potentiality of other things. Basically your saying (from my pov, let me know if you mean otherwise) you want only established canon talked about up until that moment and you can have that if you want but that’s not going to appeal to everyone. I mean if this is not what you were saying feel free to clarify. I’m not trying to say you’re wrong for wanting what you want but I do think the frame work you presented limits conversation.

tifani

I could see them getting a long really well. I like that.

tifani

Yeah good thing they completely ignored Joyce. Well 90% of what she said. The hang out portion still happened and was never the issue. I guess Joyce has great ideas all the time if you only listen to 10% of any given one.

Maude Reads Things

Karaoke sounds way more fun than a bar anyway! And even Jennifer came!
