Andrea Andrew

She’s beautiful. This is beautiful. Damn religious persecution against LGBTQ people.

Sajuuk-Khar

“I’m deeply offended. I’m going into the bathroom to scream because I’m offended, and for no other reason.”

C

"...To shreds, you say?"

Logibear

Panel 4 is perfect "Hello, you have reached the voicemail of Asma Abbasi. I am not home right now, please leave a message after the beep.... beeeeep" face

Sajuuk-Khar

And her dignity? …To SHREDS, you say.

So now Alice and Asma know each other’s name? Or just Alice knows Asma’s?

Logibear

My vote for the next bonus strip is specifically going to be Asma's internal dialogue throughout this entire strip

Alexandra Falk

YOU CAN DO IT, ASMA! HANG IN THERE, ASMA! GO FOR IT, ASMA!

GundamBradley

The mortifying ordeal of being perceived.

Amós Batista

Too soon, Icarus. But keep going.

Populuxe

I think were looking at the beginning of Joyce 2.0.

Not the most unfortunate response to attention from your crush I've ever seen...or personally done (>.>)

Dan Rabin

I have confidence that our author will think up something new and different that resists that characterization.

AE Gonzalez

This reminds me of Sarah around Jacob.

tifani

Awwww

tifani

Anyone else getting prom vibes?

tifani

I think Asma and Sarah would get along great. I (friend)ship it.

Ed Marshall

I just yelled at my computer because I am cheering for Asma so much right now, you can do it Asma, we believe in you

Tessea

Oh no!!!! So close!! Asma _is_ pretty, though.

Dan Rabin

Interesting theory, but I think the whole strip is intended to be really happening. In my interpretation, Panel 1 shows Asma removing her hijab as a follow-on to the discussion in the previous strip. Asma has a beat in panel 2 to see what happens; in panel 3 Alice compliments her now-visible hair; there follow another beat in which Asma absorbs both Alice's compliment and Alice's intended sensitivity to hijab customs; and in the last panel Asma has panicked, replaced her hijab, and answered "yes" and "no" simultaneously, being in actual internal conflict.

darklion

Never mind LGBTQ persecution, this is just standard fare religious guilt. Persecution adds another layer but right now we're still at the ground floor of the sapphic elevator.

Star Ringer

that's "knowing is half the battle" not "the more you know"

Harold

@tifani: Who's Billie going to punch? (Maybe they *should* have invited Mary.)

Harold

The More You D'OH!

Andrea Andrew

Okay, so clearly, Asma is crushing on Alice, but was she considering Becky as a potential crush? Becky is the one who encouraged her to take her hijab off.

Jesse

Jesus Christ and/or Muhammad, just take the damn compliment.

Patrick Duke

Neither? Asma took her hijab off, Alice complimented her, Asma immediately freaked out and put it back on.

Patrick Duke

Dumbing characters (Dumb'uns?) can move very quickly between panels when adequately panicked.

GundamBradley

It's not impossible, though I have difficulty thinking of either of them as being on each other's radar in quite that way right now.
