DOROTHY DON'T STAND BEHIND THAT DOOR DOROTHY THAT'S THE TRAUMADOOR

jafortee

how does joyce still have friends it blows my mind

Sean Dillon

There’s something iconic about Dorothy being behind a glass door

MrShoggoth

If I were in Walky’s shoes right now, I’d start heading to class without the group and invest in noise-cancelling earbuds. For reasons.

Jamie (QueenofSodor)

kinda surprised walky's saying this about this two-tone purple button-up, you'd think he'd reserve that status solely for the Mac 'n' Cheese shirt

Andrea Andrew

Love the complete rubbing it off in Walky’s face.

Astariel

See, Joyce cares about Walky's feelings after all.

Andrea Andrew

Jennifer: you want popcorn. Lucy: yes please.

Logibear

"I can't break up with you again if I stay behind this door! And I can keep ogling my girl from here too! Truly this is the best of the doors!"

Lazuli

joyce, shut up

David M Willis

oh there's reasons he's enshrined the two-tone purple button-up

Logibear

She's trying (both definitions intended)

Harold

I think Dorothy might be more traumatized by this than she was by Amber's attack on Ryan

Lazuli

lucy seems like a cheddar popcorn person

Harold

@Logibear: She can't break on through to the other side

Harold

Alice: I got sodas for everyone!

Harold

A Dumbing of Age Pornographique

Logibear

"This is the second best of The Doors"

Sajuuk-Khar

Mazie sighs and goes to find a date-rapist to carve up in order to get Dorothy away from the door again (she can’t ask Amber to do it again, personal responsibility, etc.)

Sajuuk-Khar

Joyce loves sowing her crops so goddamn much and also has sold off all her reaping equipment that she’s never going to need

Simon Magid

@Sajuuk-Khar: we need more of these carved

5099 5618 v2.0

Hey, Dorothy. Your bisexuality would like a word with you.

5099 5618 v2.0

@Sean Dillon She's in mint condition

5099 5618 v2.0

@Harold In terms of magnitude if not direction, agreed.

5099 5618 v2.0

@S-K So, she's gonna do all that by hand? Yeah, seems legit.

You know, Joyce and Walky were never CLOSE but they had an interesting dynamic. They trusted each other. Walky was with her in the aftermath of some pretty bad days, even if he didn't know what was going on. He was one of the people she wanted in La Porte when she was miserable. He's worried about her in the aftermath of the shooting. Sure they squabbled but in many ways it kinda felt like his dynamic with Jennifer or Sal. There was just that bit of real venom in it though that kept it from being like JOYCE's real sibling relationships with people like Walky (Becky, Joss when she's in the mood) or how she is with her other friends. "Friends" might not be the right word for what they were, but there was still that bit of care. It may not be gone forever but it's gone for now and that makes me sad.

GundamBradley

Actions have consequences, unfortunately, but yeah, I feel similarly. I liked their pseudo-sibling bickering. Joyce is probably making it worse by trying to *not* be petty.

(~Hello, sex drive, my old friend Come to confuse me again ...~)

@Harold Hornt is a vector, after all. And most of the math bisexuals have to do to manage it is partial derivative stuff. An approximation, sure, but one that doesn't get you into too much trouble so long as your boundary methods are properly managed. At least until you start getting into extreme cases.

Ty34er

I don't want to be a narc, but I think you have this on the wrong tier. I don't think I'm supposed to be able to see it.

NinjaZaku

It concerns me a bit that Joyce is still avoiding mildly uncomfortable conversations. I know its only been like two days comic time but i feel like eventually someone is gonna call her out.

Tessea

Lucy & Jennifer - "You know what? Let's just go."

darklion

I've heard that you absorb more and more traits from your partners the longer you spend with them. I can confirm this to be true. Joyce's derp is flowing far too quickly to Dorothy.

Tessea

I can absolutely see Alice and Amber (and probably Booster) bonding over popcorn while watching the interpersonal drama that happens all around them at this school.

JMat

I like that Walky is clearly more pissed at Joyce than Dorothy.

5099 5618 v2.0

@Tessea Lucy: "So, I think I just realized I'm bisexual." Jennifer: "Who's the lucky girl?" L: "Uh... Alice?" J: "...yeah, alright. I'll have to high-five Jacob next time I see him." L: (/soul leaves her body)

5099 5618 v2.0

@Harold Joyce: (to Dorothy) "If you see me in the doorway, baby, don't pass..."

MrShoggoth

A couple of people have brought up the sibling energy dynamic that Joyce and Walky have had before now, so here’s a thought: does anyone else think that Joyce is treating this like sibling bickering/needling because that’s how she talks with her siblings, but she doesn’t realise that it’s actively hurting and pissing Walky off because he’s not a relative who’s known her his entire life? She’s pushing it too far over the line without realising there’s even a line in the first place?

Empress of Robots

I still love the fact that Dorothy and Joyce have been collectively reduced to one braincell since the moment the first kissed. Almost a year later and this continues to bring me joy lol

Harold

@JMat: It might have something to do with the fact that Dorothy tried (awkwardly, fumblingly, but she tried) to break up with him respectfully, only for Joyce to swoop in and AHHH HA HA HA

I Know Why the Mowed Lawn Screams

At this point i feel Walky’s earned a classic Charlie Brown “AAUGH” and grumpy storm out. Y’know, as a treat.

I Know Why the Mowed Lawn Screams

I would also like to see Walky walk away (heh), if only because I need to see my girl Joyce stop fumbling. Because owch!

JMat

Oh yeah, it makes total sense, I just find it funny.

thejeff

To be fair, he's long done the same to her. And sometimes misjudged the line as well. But that is the problem with that sibling bickering approach when you don't have that deep relationship - you can't see so easily when it's actually hurting

thejeff

Or it might just be that he's still got Dorothy up on a pedestal where he wasn't good enough for her anyway. I actually hope he can get pissed at Dorothy. I think he needs to.

VengeanceKnight

That’s a good point. My first instinct is to think of how much be mocked her over her religion in the early days of the strip, to the point where Dorothy had to actively shush him from saying something stupid at the end of my all-time favorite DoA strip (the one about continuity errors, religious schisms, and “flawed, mortal men”).

Michael Steamweed

"What Dorothy?" "Who Dorothy?" "How Dorothy?" Tsk. This will totally confuse Drax.

Harold

“WHY is Dorothy?!?”

Harold

And, with a nod to Mel Brooks and Gene Wilder: “WereDorothy?” “THERE Dorothy!”

Harold

@GundamBradley: If this is Joyce trying not to be petty, lord help us all when she *is*

Tessea

Considering the last time they talked, he was fairly blunt with er 'Stop dumping me for five minutes', I think he is.

Maude Reads Things

Maybe but Joyce and Walky have often had that tiny bit of real negativity that Joyce lacks in her sibling relationships with people like Walky, such as her relationship with Becky or when Joss is teasing her
