Original strip for July 29, 2026 (Patreon)

Back before I dumped the entire buffer to add about a month's worth of strips, the strip above is how this section of the story resolved! Joyce and Dorothy duck inside a building, the end.
But while I was adding in other stuff, I realized I was a little unsatisfied with the sequence, since the danger they were facing was entirely offpanel the entire time. Kind of a Nathan Fielder "laughing with the party just off to my left" meme vibe. And so I took the rare opportunity to scrap the above strip and attempt a new resolution.
Attempt 2! Actual cops! Yikes! Get the fuck out of there, guys!
This is where, however, I look up... what that restaurant was which I drew them in front of a few weeks prior. It's Killroy's! Which is actually not a restaurant, but a bar! And is closed... a lot. (because you don't open a night club/bar in the mornings for lunch) And specifically it's closed all day on Wednesdays. And this storyline is on a Wednesday.
so uh
hrm
So here's a strip I clearly didn't finish which tried to put a bandaid on the situation. Panels 1, 2, and 4 are Walky and Jennifer outside the door, and panel 3 is Dorothy and Joyce running in the dark through a closed bar.
But it hinged entirely on the closed bar's front door being magically unlocked during off-hours. There's this old Pixar storytelling rule (that I hear a lot from Maggie, whose name you can find in the WALL*E credits) that you can get INTO trouble via coincidence, but it's narratively unsatisfying to get OUT of trouble via coincidence. (and the David Willis corollary that you can get out of trouble via coincidence if it's very funny to David Willis) And a door that should be locked is too much of a helpful coincidence. An extremely long shot, even. so take 3
So, I redid the last half of that first strip to show them running down the street instead, and with a follow-up strip of them running around downdown Bloomington Jeffy Circus style. We get some manic action that you expect from an Amazi-Girl sequence (all while still falling within Dorothy's physical abilities) and also a bit of characterization between Joyce and Dorothy as they run. Took a lot of Google Streetview, though!
The only important thing that got dropped from the original strip was Jennifer reading from all this, hilariously, that Joyce was cheating on Dorothy with Amazi-Girl. Which is a great thread that i may or may not have picked up on later anyway, ahem
And with a net addition of only one strip to the buffer!
