Those two in particular are specifically biblical* prophecies that biblical literalists think are actually and truly going to happen. The 7 years of tribulation thing is first mentioned in Daniel and then again in Revelations. The 2/3 thing relies on an Old Testament prophecy from Zechariah (Zech. 13:8) where he predicts that "two parts in it shall be cut off and die; but the third shall be left therein." A lot of fundamentalist churches that make rapture predictions use the OT prophets to get their numbers... never mind that like, when you use Daniel to try and figure out numbers, you're not even dealing with a 365 day calendar. And that's not to mention the internal contradictions or the role that traditional Hebrew numerology and local interests played in how these stories were written down and retold over the years. *Biblical as opposed to relevatory prophecies made by a contemporary person- for example, all of the failed end of the world prophecies from the JWs and the Adventists. Those are usually more specific to a particular sect. (I want to look at Mary's specific belief system like a bug under a magnifying glass. What does she think the beast from the sea is going to look like, is Babylon the Great going to have Roz's face, etc.)
