Andrea Andrew

Too bad it’s Sunday. Those buildings will be empty.

Spartacus

Is there a new rapture theory?

Andrea Andrew

Is Dorothy confused by Joyce trolling Mary?

Jamie (QueenofSodor)

oh god is this setting up the next arc of story are we gonna see fucking. john or jordan or whoever come in and try and make sure joyce is rapture-ready ...it's just a goof for goofing's sake, isn't it.

Harold

"Actually, rapture happened last Sunday. Several times. Then again on Monday, and yesterday, and just now in the shower, again..."

Buck Caldwell

I keep waiting for the rapture, but not for the reason Evangelicals want it so badly.

Logibear

Oh, is Mary digging at Joyce's former church thinking the rapture is happening? Is Carol about to try and save her daughters soul?

Logibear

"I won't lie Mary. I'm raptured out of my fucking mind right now. I could do with less rapture.... okay maybe more rapture"

Amós Batista

"According to some people" She's really thinking in herself as smarty in this panel, isn't she?

Ryan Kertai

It's always the dawn of the end times somewhere.

Logibear

In this famously non-foreshadowy comic?.... nooooo, never

Lazuli

okay mary

Andrea Andrew

She still doesn’t know about them, does she?

Packy Anderson

I was trying to figure out what that "according to SOME people" crack was about.

Morgan Byrd

This feels like a bonus lmao

Packy Anderson

Ugh. I just noticed that Mary and Joyce have the same boots. I'm trying to decide if that's because a) they were both raised fundy, b) they're both legacy Roomies! characters, or c) Willis hasn't invested a lot of effort in improving the way boots are drawn, so all boots look the same.

Packy Anderson

She always thinks she's the smarty. Smug and self-righteous, that's Mary.

Harold

@Andrea Andrew: She was there right before their first sexy shower together. When Joyce said she was going to "baptize" Dorothy.

Riley

i mean there's kind of a rolling schedule of them, basically anytime throughout history someone has predicted the rapture they spend the next 5 years or so going "oh did i say this September? i meant next September" until they give up

5099 5618 v2.0

Thank goodness cooler heads prevailed. Also, good job choosing your battles, there, Dorothy.

Simon Magid

I am equally lost. I can't see why Saturday would be a particularly unsuitable day for the Rapture. Unless of course God takes Saturdays off.

Ragtime

according to Walky it's happened already.

Astariel

Pfft, Saturday. That's just crazy talk.

5099 5618 v2.0

@Andrea Andrew I suspect Dorothy is keeping her powder dry, for later. See also: "Is this a dagger I see before me, the handle towards my hand?"

5099 5618 v2.0

@Simon Magic Don't 7th Day Adventists more or less operate on that principle? Among others?

AE Gonzalez

IIRC, the current concept of The Rapture only dates back to 1830; most Christian denominations consider it silly nonsense.

5099 5618 v2.0

@Harold Which she very much did, forthwith.

Zesstra

I don't know why apocalypse/Rapture people keep making these predictions, when surely they and the people around them know about Matthew 24:36? [Re the coming of the Son of Man] "But of that day and hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels of heaven, but my Father only." (KJV) For a more recent translation: "But about that day and hour no one knows, neither the angels of heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father." (NRSVUE)

Kelly (they-them)

For some reason, I initially thought they meant the rapture would not happen on *A* Saturday.

Kelly (they-them)

Maybe? When Joyce was introducing Becky to everyone (and they were both still evangelical) she described Mary as being, "born again like us, but she's angry all the time so I don't think it's going well." I'm paraphrasing, but that was the gist

Darastrix

Joyce has the Uggs because Jennifer decided her wardrobe needed to be improved. Jennifer went to the mall with Joyce, Dina, and Sarah, and bought the boots for Joyce.

Gale Tazzin

god, Mary's biggest kink is really just "watching Joyce go to hell"

Tessea

I am completely blanking on this Saturday thing. I've never been religious so I'm probably missing some context.

C.T. Phipps

Joyce has reached the stage where people formerly like her look like idiots. I'd say she should feel empathy but it's Mary.

Paul McCubbrey

Of course it’s not happening on Saturday. God famously takes Saturdays off.

Harold

I think Joyce has *always* known Mary's an idiot

David M Willis

Mary's Uggs are a little different from Joyce's -- they flare a bit at the ankles, and they have different stitchings when drawn up closer.

Eric Barkman

It's not about the specific day being unsuitable, it's about the fact that you're not supposed to predict a specific day, at least according to a lot of denominations.

Eric Barkman

According to a lot of denominations, you're not supposed to be able to predict when the rapture will occur.

Packy Anderson

Ah, so it's the distance that makes them look so similar.

Tessea

Ahh. So Joyce is surprised for a moment that Mary might be claiming to predict god's mind.

5099 5618 v2.0

@Tessea Sure, why not? Worked for that one guy in the book of Job [1] [1] - Fun fact: not actually Job. God spoke from the whirlwind to rebuff the young man who tried to speak on His behalf. Job didn't do that.

George Simpson

It does seem unrealistic for *two* college age women in the same building to have a pair of uggs.
