I'm sure it's a COMPLETE coincidence he chose to bug out of there the moment there was a hint things could turn dramatic. I mean, the last time he snuck off for some drama free quality time with a girl he kinda liked it turned into this whole mess of stabbing-sisters-and-fighting-in-parking-lot-and-then-getting-screamed-at-by-Joyce-for-some-reason. He has learnt his lesson.
