LET'S DO MORE UNUSED STRIPS, let's just flush them out of the backlog.  

Here's a strip for which I rewrote the last two panels because Joe ended up leading with his heart a little too nakedly a little too quickly.  Better bury some feelings with deflections, stat!  Here's the final:

I think you made the right choice here. Saying it out loud right to her face should change things between them, but the final strip carries that intent, that Joe gets to be nice and affirm to Joyce that she's more than the weird fundie girl she's boxed in as, but then he gets to deflect from the emotional responsibility of saying it out loud.
