Ruth, you were doing so well, but you’re slipping up and not doing the RA thing properly again.

Dorothy is trying to speed run self-destructive behavior

Honestly? Nah, she’s doing her job here. It’s not how she’s *supposed* to do her job, it’s not in the letter of the job or the law, no, but it is in the spirit of her duties. Dorothy is mid-breakdown and threatening her own safety. She’s willing to just consume substances in a safe environment, but if Ruth turns her away she’s specifically gonna go find somewhere unsafe to do something probably worse. So yeah. Giving her a designated space to get trashed is actually very good RAing! If she and Dorothy start making out, THEN that’s bad RAing.

I don't like the way this is going, but I *do* like the lighting, with Ruth back-lit and Dorothy's face half in shadow when she turns her head, which puts her halfway to the dark side or something.

Sajuuk-Khar

God, I’m glad Dorothy wasn’t around to hear Joe (self-deprecatingly) suggest cocaine, because she would absolutely go find some cocaine right now

BBCC

Oh geez. I'm hoping this leads to Dorothy and Ruth becoming friends and that this ends up being harm reduction versus whatever she planned to do and that this ends okayish

Maybe Ruth will council Dorothy to the heart of why she’s letting herself fall apart.

Do the scare quotes around "find" mean she's planning to steal alcohol if she can't have Ruth's? I'm not sure what else that would mean.

Bagge

I love how the "team mum" immediately went to find a mum of her own

Onyx

Ideally, given that I don't think she drinks much, she downs enough fast enough she get violently sick. This would kill the idea that getting drunk helps, an sometimes a physical purge can help the mental purging start.

Samples? But samples are thumb-sized bottles. How could someone get drunk with samples?

At this point the priorities are: 1) Call for some adult help, like campus mental health services. Ruth is in over her head here, the applicable rule is "don't keep a secret/don't be the highest ranking person with a secret". 2) Don't let Dorothy out of your sight after this point. It's not good to be letting her go off on her own anymore, the potential for harm to self and others is already enough above zero. As evidenced by the breaking and entering and requests for (underage) alcohol. I find it difficult to believe Ruth, the recovering alcoholic, would be couching substances as an actual solution to Dorothy's obvious mental situation, so I'm choosing to believe it's the best time-buying strategy Ruth can think of at the moment.

I think it means, "If you don't give me alcohol and let me drink it here, I'll go look for it somewhere that's less safe than your room." Honestly, I doubt Dorothy would even know where to go if Ruth said no; she's betting that the implied threat of putting herself in harm's way will work, and because Ruth cares, she's right.
