Before trying out the new INTERmission DLC, we decided to run through the entire Remake again with the new PS5 version. In addition to 60fps and better resolution, there are a few other small changes to this version including upgraded textures. We took this time to talk a lot about the Remake's story and some theories that have surfaced since we last played it.

You mentioned how it seems like "Fate" sucks in this game because we easily beat the whispers every time we see them, but I actually disagree. In most cases where they appear, they manage to do what's required to keep the original events intact: getting Jessie injured so Cloud goes on the mission, holding off Cloud, Tifa and Aerith from arriving to the pillar too early, and here we don't attack them, but they do prevent Cloud from killing Reno. Speaking of that specific scene; I have a theory as to why they appear here. In the OG events, Cloud doesn't fight Reno at all here; he and Aerith simply run to the back. So the question is, what triggered this change? (besides just having a cool fight in the remake). Every change from the OG timeline in this game (and thus, why the whispers appear) links back to butterfly effects. There's a difference in the dialogue here: Aerith specifically says to Reno "he's a SOLDIER" which then prompts an exchange between Reno and Cloud where Cloud gets angry at Reno and decides to attack him. However, Aerith is not supposed to know that Cloud is a SOLDIER here. Yet another thing that points towards Aerith being omniscient. So basically, Aerith slipped and said something she's not supposed to know, which changed the course of events and could have caused Cloud to kill Reno if the whispers hadn't showed up.
