Michael Gehrman

Awesome, Kat! Great reaction, great show and a great new format! This is perfect and very entertaining in every way! Great catch about Scully wearing a cross, by the way. Well spotted! This element is developed a lot in later episodes, which are some of the best in the series. One of the great things about this show is that it doesn't sabotage itself by indulging in tongue in cheek camp, like a LOT of other popular shows. There are distinct occasional comedic episodes, but those are always "walled off" and it is obvious what they are distinct.

Next episode we get the first of the monster-of-the-week episodes. To me, they were far and away the better episodes and more interesting. No reliance on (or obligation to) show mythology, just focusing on a single story and telling it as well as possible.

Code Monkey

Since one of the main characters of this show is referred to as "The Cigarette Smoking Man" I suspect we'll get a lot of those tobacco warnings at the beginning! 😆

Code Monkey

Agreed. I always liked the MotW episodes. I wonder which Kat will prefer.

Be prepared to see a lot of now famous people as guest stars on this show. Seth Green is just the beginning! And to answer your question, Seth Green was actually a child actor and worked all through the 80's (cause as hard as it is to believe, he's in his 50s now). His biggest role as a kid was the It miniseries in 1990! I love the dichotomy between Scully's logic and her faith...it's one of the most interesting aspects to her character, imo. And that theme music is iconic!!!

lol. Just started the reaction. I suspect her Canadianess is unaware of "Deep Throat" as a very particular person in US History. "Deep Throat is the pseudonym given to the secret informant who provided key details about the involvement of U.S. president Richard Nixon's administration in what came to be known as the Watergate scandal to reporter Bob Woodward in 1972, which was later shared with Carl Bernstein." Of course to be fair this was clearly used as a double entendre!

TGrimace

Heh. You can watch the opening for syncing reasons. I watch the opening because it is awesome. Plus, they sometimes change the words at the end to make it more relevant to whatever is going on.

Michael clark

Great series. But I believe there is more proof than just Faith.

Michael clark

I can see in your eyes that the series is already burrowing into you very soul… it will get worse.

Fish_Kungfu

Great reaction! Here we go!

Kiki McD

"These guys have no idea how to hold guns." Just wait til you see how they perform CPR! The theme is iconic, and is featured throughout the series' score in subtle (and not so subtle) motifs. There's club remixes and parodies and all sorts. This show was ENORMOUS. Seth Green is the first of many. You're going to flip out. :)

"We're on to episode 2 of the X-Files. This is called Deep Throat.... Checking to make sure I had the correct amount of X's....." 🤣😂

Anton Hennicker

Love this Kat! He's gunna need a thorough tick check!! PMSL...x

Great reaction, Kat! I have totally forgotten how great this series is! Oh, to answer your question regarding Scully wearing a cross, as a person with a degree in physics, a similar point was made to me by my grandmother once and I answered it in a very similar way that Matthew McConaughey's character in the movie Contact (Palmer Joss, has a masters in divinity but dropped out of seminary) responded to Jodie Foster's character, a scientist and atheist when questioning faith. Faith applies to more than just religion. Just as religious people have faith in God yet it can be difficult scientifically to verify, scientest, and particularly Physicists, themselves also practice faith...faith in their theories. They don't have the data or the ability yet to prove their idea but they are certain their theory is true. The movie is very fun and, on an underlying note, relates each of their faiths and also a third faith in something she encounters during the movie which no one believes and all the scientific equipment could not verify. Maybe you can put Contact on your list to react to? You would enjoy it! :)

Oh! With you watching Frighteners lately, which really wasn't much of a "scary" movie but did have ghosts. Any chance you could watch K-Pop Demon Hunters? Technically, not a "scary" movie but it does have demons. Plus, it's a super fun ride, great animation, unbelievably good music (the high notes the singer hits! Are you kidding me!), very funny, and a great underlying message. I'm not a fan of KPop, musical type movies or animation but it won me over in the first five minutes and is addictive. Lol!

Rayve

Absolutely loving you watching this as someone who has not been spoiled, going into it earnestly as we all did the first time 💕

Just Plain Bob

That was a great line. I only know Kat from her reactions. Does anyone know if she used to do stand up? She’s quite funny.

Josh Link

I am so happy you noticed the cross necklace.

katwatcheshorrormovies

YAY RAYVE!! Thank you for being here. I'm happy you're loving it as much as I am!!!

katwatcheshorrormovies

HECK YES I WILL. It has Demon in the title. AUTOMATIC YES FROM ME!! Hehehehe. Right up my alley... I think I'm gona love it. But also... I have very high expectations...!!

katwatcheshorrormovies

HAHA!! Ahh thank you!!!! My favourite compliment!! I've done standup a few times, but my background in comedy is improv. Which definitely come in handy from time to time!!KAT:D

katwatcheshorrormovies

OMG. Just did some CPR training so I hope I spot the mistakes!! Haha! Ooo I will keep an ear open for that...and YAY FOR SURPRISE GUESTS!!

katwatcheshorrormovies

NOWAY!!! If that isn't incentive to watch the IT miniseries I don't know what is!! Can't wait to learn more about her. What a great costume choice. THE LAYERS!!

katwatcheshorrormovies

WHOAA!! Maybe I missed that?? Now I'll assume anyone smoking is the cigarette smoking man lol

katwatcheshorrormovies

How can you tell which is a monster of the week episode and which is a regular episode?

katwatcheshorrormovies

Yay Michael!! So happy you're enjoying the reactions AND THE NEW FORMAT!! If all goes well, I'll start doing that for movies in a month or two!! It's so obvious these characters were created with love. So many beautiful layers. Really enjoying this so far!!

Just Plain Bob

I looked up the episode list on Wikipedia and recognized the episode as a MotW from its name. If I’m right about which one it is, get ready to be really creeped out.

Robert Raszkowski

Hey KAT... so now You know the "meaning" of "the truth is out there"... It is a start. Did You know that in "real life" the roles are reversed? Duchovny does not believe in E.T. and Anderson does? Also I could debate You about that "no proof" when it comes to religion, but perhaps I will save it for later. So... You ever watched "JAG" TV Series 1995–2005? There is a simillar dynamic of both leads in that series as well. WIll they? Or won't they? I guess that is the real question - right? :D

BrakYeller

IIRC, later in the series Mulder and others literally refer to Jerry Hardin's character as Deep Throat as if that's his actual name. The character in the show is meant to be a parallel to Woodward & Bernstein's informant. When the show first aired, it coincided with the growth of the internet and dedicated chatrooms, so X-Files fans were among the first fandoms to have a huge online presence where after each episode aired everyone would hit the chatroom and swap theories. At the time The X-Files was airing, the real name of Woodward & Bernstein's Deep Throat informant still had not yet been revealed, so there was an online fandom theory that the Jerry Hardin character was supposed to be the literal, historical Deep Throat who helped bring down Nixon.

BrakYeller

"Don't go past the tall weeds/...there he goes past the tall weeds!" is basically Mulder's character in a nutshell. He always goes past the metaphorical tall weeds. "How's she gonna get him out of this one?" is a question you'll be asking a LOT on this show. :D Also an excellent catch on Scully's cross.... the exploration of Scully's faith and her scientific rationalism are huge elements of her character. Man, this show does so much great world-building. You're going to have so much fun!

Sky Commanda

Lmao.. its a fish! They are all fish.. Took me out.. I had to pause and I woke my puppy up I was laughing too hard omg this is amazing.. never in a million yrs would I have thought.. fish..

CLFuqua87

One that thing bugs me about Scully early on is how hostile she is to the fantastical. Not just skeptical, she finds it offensive. It’s so strange.

Jo

Love revisiting this!

James Cole

Fun fact. add .x to the suffix of any computer file and it becomes an x-file. So fun reliving the good ol' days. Thanks Kat!

You're an instant shipper, and I love it. I'm a shipper for life.
